I'd film the same thing on blue except that's a lot more difficult to find. Not meaning that negatively, it's just a truth of the server and cheap gear being available.

This wasn't a red ad, it was using a group I found and thinking ahead to Recycle 99...I just wanted to share. If I wanted it to be a plug for red I'd have put it in the thread title. Sometimes I can see why we can't have nice things.

So this is "blue server" chat? I read "General community" which is what this video was filmed for. Just trying to showcase the P99 community in a positive light but typically people want to get angry on the forums because the PC names weren't in the right color...and now we're here.

I was watching some old EQ vids on YouTube the other night and where you'd sometimes see a happy/healthy "Guys you've got to try Project 1999!" you now see replies under it saying that our community is nothing like they thought it would be.

It would be nice if we had a thread that could just be appreciated for what it is. In this case "A look ahead to Recycle 1999 and recapturing the classic spirit".

Thank you for those who responded positively. This community can grow a lot more if people can keep their negativity to themselves, or at least in RNF. Please PM me if you have something bad to say, this forum doesn't need to hear it.

..and here's to the Recycle 99 server whenever it comes around. I'm looking forward to grinding out some bronze armor and thinking that a looted weapon with a terrible ratio is something to be proud of :)

This is awesome. I am a newb on red right now and it's a lot of fun. I am looking forward to the recycle server as well. I am rocking some good old raw-hide, and it feels like a recycle server except you have to watch your back! Also, did you name your character Magpies after the Newcastle Magpies? If so, good luck this season from a Liverpool fan :D

The only real way to do it, is wipe the server and start over again. There is really no good reason why everyone needs to keep their RMT'ed 6 level 60's. People are gonna play no matter what

I could load up that druid with a bunch of items but I don't play him much. I thought the group dynamic was really random too... 2 paladins, 2 iksar monks, a druid and a rogue.

Imagine the OCD alarms going off. Just find 5 other players and enjoy the game :)

I'm more excited about Recycle server than I ever have been or will be for Velious. Leveling from scratch without high lvl buffs or twink gear is some of the most fun you can possibly have in this game. Not to mention chances at all the fun stuff that doesn't drop anymore (Guise/Manastone.etc)

It will be funny, semi-annoying, and nostalgic to start out in the over-populated starting zones where a bunch of level 3's cannot find any mobs to fight because there are 30 other level 3's running around killing all the mobs. I remember Nektulos forest being like this and then eventually gaining levels and heading to Lavastorm only to find the same thing! Groups were easy to come by back then and nobody cared about your gear.

I even anticipated some hate for quitting blue and started one there because I know you guys can't be trusted not to get mad.

I like neither the global ooc nor the global kill messages. As far as getting pk'd, I haven't encountered a player trying to kill me thus far (I'm level 18, I guess this would change if I was within range and on the Velious continent). I have been in close proximity to some players that are within level range to attack. It seems like most of the players that I run into are also just starting out on the server with new characters.

Most of the kill messages I have seen that I assume are done to lower level characters have been near Unrest or near Crushbone.

You can minimize the ooc chat in a separate window if it gets too intense - most of it is auctions but if someone well known in the community unexpectedly dies to someone who isn't very good it can be a bit much for some people. Personally I enjoy it.

This is pretty accurate, the whole time Ilvled on red; ive only been attacked by deleveled VP looted toons or Low level empire alts.

I didn't find party grinding "magical." I found it dull, much like grinding solo is dull.

What I found "magical" about classic EQ was exploring the world, finding out what my limits really were, what I could handle on my own if I really stretched for it and what I could pull off with a party in a rough situation.

Nothing about sitting around on the upper floor of Unrest grinding mobs is magical, no matter what the characters are wearing.

As for your second point: did you really just imply that players on Red can't handle classic EQ without being given a huge experience boost? That's...hunh. That is not something I expected to hear, but okay, I'll take your word for it.

When I look at this video, I just see an alternate version of what happens on Blue with its ridiculous level of twinking and powerleveling. On blue it's a character in gear way above the area's level having their hand held through the grind to make it faster so they can get to the upper levels and raid or whatever; on red it's a party of characters being mechanically powerleveled through the grind to make it faster so they can get to the upper levels and raid or whatever.

I don't see either as being better or worse than the other, which makes all the RvB "classic!" dickwaving both funny and confusing to watch.
