It was a fun 5 years, and while I've been playing red casually since 2012 I'm going to enjoy Velious there exclusively now... perhaps you should too :)

Really good, not a personal best but I had to change my route because there's a music festival being set up in the park I run in so hard to gauge any progress.

According to my phone app I burnt 880 calories.

There's no need to get upset on an internet elf sim forum. Had another fun session tonight, died a bunch of times but I'm learning - got jumped in the bank and almost took out a druid in South Ro but he ran off on 9% after resisting root and jboots couldn't keep the pace.

Made some more JC items up for people, helped the economy grow, even leveled blacksmithing from 0-50. It's fun interacting with the community... it's all good on red, I'd recommend it. Spoke to an Azure Guard officer who was leveling in Mistmoore and he said he's enjoying it too, especially the quick XP.

Nobody can say they can't get hold of HP rings and resist gear when Swish is in town, no sir...

Nah red can be fun for sure if you play for what it is. Solo and group can be fun with the different elements. Large scale raids just have far less competition than blue. But that doesn't mean it's less fun, just a little ezserver like.

I considered it once, despite my intense dislike of pvp in games like this. When I looked at the player list and saw 99% were anon, I couldn't help thinking "this is entirely goofy" and logged back out.

That's a classic EQ PvP thing, if you displayed your level, say 45 you're not only advertising your pvp range (41-49) but probably got anyone who's 48-49 looking for you and they know what zone you're in :p

I was richer on red a couple of years back wormed, I dropped a lot of plat helping out new starters but that's a money sink as not everyone stays. Nowadays I still do some work "at cost" which is more sensible because...

1. It's much cheaper, helps new starters to keep saving...and I don't go bankrupt in the process.

2. It shows that you want to be there because you've grinded out some plat/levels.


PvP is really fun, having a great time... let the mads like Kushie keep transferring their blue or RL anger issues on me, I don't mind. I'm in a better place now.

Oh, I get the reasoning...but it's goofy.

My thinking: I'm currently on blue, mainly because I enjoy solo work and exploration without needing to worry about someone ambushing me for the lulz in the process, but it can be hard to find groups due to camp competition and the like. The reasoning for moving to red, then, for a theoretically better grouping environment (xp bonus, lower population meaning there's more open space for groups to get some grind on, etc.) is considerably dampened by never being able to tell where anyone is or how many in your range are on. And no, global ooc doesn't seem to impact that much. So I'd likely end up spending a lot of time soloing anyway...which I can already do on blue where I already have an established character, so why would I switch?

Overpopulated, overinflated, overcamped, overlawyered, shitty raid scene that has promoted zerging throughout Kunark, CotH duck/cancel, new guilds unable to grow into raiding guilds, every man and his dog wanting your auctioned items for 50% off the going rate...and the highlight of blue Velious so far has been the comedy of seeing 150+ people waiting in line for a camp lol

It was a fun 5 years, and while I've been playing red casually since 2012 I'm going to enjoy Velious there exclusively now... perhaps you should too :)

There's no "think" about it, enjoying some great times on red. Pop rising, had some great XP groups in places like Chardok (ever done that on blue?) and logged my cleric in and did some moat + arena in a clear cycle.

Getting yellow text was slow tonight (almost had a TMO mage but she zoned out and got finished by someone passing by in the next zone). However I logged in my wizard for a kill in Velks 1v3, cleric was a bit too slow in reacting and didn't zone out. Monk and rogue beat me down pretty good but no death.

Having a great time on red. If you're not enjoying anything in life, change it...same goes for EQ.

Got some jboots sorted out finally on Swish tonight, no more sow pot dependancy! Interestingly the guy I did the MQ with was someone who plays red to transfer plat to blue. With a 3:1 economy I guess I can see why, I think he likes it for more than that though ;)

Also bought boon of the garou, just need someone to cast it on now. No PvP kills. Took a death on my wizard walking into Velks after getting level 52, the group in there said they had room but then the rogue attacked a moment later...wizards don't last long to rogues. He was a bad rogue (wasn't hard to strafe and move so he couldn't get a backstab in) but a lucky root sealed it and made it easy, need a little extra MR I guess.

It's like a holiday that never ends... can't wait to see what mischief occurs tomorrow :)

It's almost as if anonymous invitations to travel across the world without knowing who or what's actually waiting for you when you get there isn't really the most encouraging system for partying.

There was no invite involved, my wiz is bound near the Velketor zone line so it was literally "gate and walk in" to see what was going on.

Very rarely will someone set up some kind of trap like advertising for more and then jumping them on arrival. Ironlion caught me with it once a couple of years back but we laughed about it afterwards :D

Crucial to enjoying the red server, if you die to pvp just get your corpse and carry on. Took me about a minute to zone back in and loot my corpse, wizard/druid benefit I guess (druid is a great first class on red).

I noticed that too. Start of prime time today it was rolling at the dizzying heights of... 230. The surge is working!

Tonight was a fun time as I thought it would be. Saw some PvE (and PvP) action in Velks on my wizard, bought an extry shiny SMR in North Freeport which will replace the advisor robe my wizard has been wearing (less of a "Thunderdome" look now).

Also cleansed North Freeport of anyone in range of my enchanter at 52 (so 48-56) including a wizard who managed to gate at 8%, another wizard who was already fighting someone else... and the guy after him. Then ANOTHER wizard well known to me, Blackmagic the erudite wizard took a beating at the hands of Jade, my vendor pet and we had a fun spar session but sadly no yellow text on either side.

No kills or deaths today, but plenty of combat.

I'd give myself 8 cats out of 10 for performance, getting used to using Theft of Thought on other players and they hate it ;)

Need to get some more enchanter levels and start working towards the magic 60.

It doesn't really matter. Even if someone is using "red" in a different context (e.g. "I bought a rubicite BP in EC today, it's really red!") people will rage out and break a keyboard in server chat.

Gave half a litre of blood today so have been feeling quite sleepy - but how great is it that someone out there will be lucky enough to receive a Swish blood transplant? That's my 7th donation, they only let us donate once every 16 weeks.

Been quite lazy in EQ today. Blacksmithing now up to 135ish so if anyone wants banded, particularly medium banded...they can find pieces on one of the vendors in the shop where the East Freeport forge is for cheap. Bring some molds and I'll do the bigger/smaller stuff. In other news I bought a few more bard items, that shit is coming together nicely but I think I'm going to have to make banded for the empty slots and quest some of the lambent pieces (that are worth having) myself as I level... love the challenge of doing it myself like I used to on live and the early blue days.

PvP - chased a few casters out of the Freeport bank again, they don't stick around for long when there's a vendor beating on them. Most of them were porters though so I'm sure they came back later or just banked elsewhere. Had another spar session with Blackmagic, got my pet to hit him a few times but he landed an ice comet, that shit hurt lol. No deaths.

Need to make a trip to Velious for some velium bars. Just doing 55 hp rings has its limits.

Caught a couple of closet blue players online today... they're coming, and the blue pop is at 1100 right now. What happened to 2000? Yikes.
