View Full Version : High levels farming low areas?

What is the etiquette behind high level people farming say the wall at crushbone or the elite guards in Blackburrow, especially when the zone is at capacity and everything is camped?
I asked politely a couple of people (30+ level folks in CB) but they just said "I'll tell you when I leave." and it was hours later, I logged back in, people still there.
My group out leveled the entrance/rando's, and there were five of us
Back in classic I never really ran into this problem, but once you're twice to three times the level of a spot there really are better places to farm money-making things.
What's the etiquette, should I just deal with it or do I get to raise my fist in angry righteousness?
Screenshot of kinda the situation: THE NAMES HAVE BEEN REDACTED TO PROTECT THE INNOCENTTTTTT. And possibly less innocent, I'm not mean.

Yeah, this is not classic. In Live, high levels will be ethical to give up camp immediately since they cannot level from all those greens anyway.

Yeah this guy's decently polite, but his motives and what he was doing was not. Also conditions for giving up the camp? Silly.
Why is this even a comment

His motives were simple - to farm belts for an alt or a friend. That's a perfectly reasonable thing to do, even when it inconveniences you. He has no obligation to yield his camp to you or anyone else just because you gain xp there and he does not.

Pro tip, your own name always appears last when you type /who with no arguments...

Thanks Casteel. Though its not a big deal I guess.
Just worried some crazy people may grief the hell out of me.
So in that vein, it's just first come first serve, there is no other thing to take into consideration, yes? That's the general vibe I'm getting.
Like Kaera said, in Live I was very accomodating, if a lowbie or quest-doer needed the camp I'd either split it with them, strike a deal like I'd pay a set amount or if it was a specific mob like Jester for IBC, I'd only camp that one specific one. Belts are of course a drop on all those mobs, so that type of deal can't be made.
So in that case I'd just leave, or find an area uncamped and take that over instead.
Here's another alternate thing then, if you claim a camp, lets go with Slavers, and you are doing the slaver quest in addition to killing the mobs there, are those slave NPC's in effect yours? Or can some random person come and kill your quest NPCs, and that's not held under camp rules? Was having a lot of issues in crushbone with folks as you can see. Ain't no manners in you whippersnappers these days.

Agreed.
Have to agree with Sam: everyone seemed perfectly polite and reasonable from the chat in the screen-shot. The issue arises when normative claims are thrown around to describe what is otherwise a humdrum situation.
No Bard or BDA involvement!

I usually give away the camps if ppl can muster a full group. But thats just me and how I choose to do it.
There is no rule about who has priority to a camp.
Lets say they were all lvl 5 mobs but one of them dropped an item worth 20k once in a blue moon - that camp shouldnt be available for ppl lvl 10+? I actually think they added a zone that kinda worked like that - so after a certain level mobs wouldnt drop items for you anymore...

They did. I believe theycalled it the tribal loot system or something.

I definitely agree with valuable loot ideals. I want to camp the goblin ring and such probably past when I'm the level high enough to do it finally.
It just didn't seem like belts fell into that, when you're more than three times the level of it, there is more valuable stuff to get and its not a class/equipment quest (Unless you have really hit rock bottom as a high level for tattered stuff haha), but I guess belts are considered major income even past the 30's?
Sorry, I'm still pretty new (I joined a while back but didn't end up playing much till now). Just trying to feel out how people do camps and things now. I probably just won't quest in crushbone unless it's off-peak hours then, I can't really compete with high levels yet.
Does anyone know if there are other zones like that around level 9 that are usually camped by high levels? I was thinking of going to Nro, and possibly befallen when I can, but thats real close to EC so people may be there a ton.

It's pretty much just the zones that drop quest items that give xp. Easy way to get your alt through those early few levels. So CB is one, and someone may occasionally camp the orcs in EC. Gnoll fangs and bandit sashes are no drop, so they can't be farmed quite like the belts.
Befallen is very quiet usually - bring your own group sort of place. Probably because of the danger - you get killed behind a locked door, CR is a pain. And the dervs in Nro/WC are a decent camp, which are not that highly contested for some reason - at least, depending on the time of the day. And those derv rings can be turned to the orc in Sro for exp as well, right - never did that, so not sure how beneficial that is.

On the FV server, where there was a one character limit, green mobs did not drop any loot. IIRC

trivial loot sytem. It was in the Warrens at launch, but got removed eventually. It was also on the entire firiona vie 'role playing preferred' server.

That Dwarf in that screenshot looked BDA to me. CALL IN THE RnF SQUAD!
JK.
My take on this is that which is already posted here. However next time you come across this, which will probably happen again, just ask the person if you can kill everything there for xp and give him/her the items they are after.
A while back I was in CB, and a level 40 was in zone killing everything he could for belts and shoulder pads. I asked him if I could just give him all the belts and pads I had if he would let us get xp.
His response: Np man, want me to pull them to you single?
Most people are really nice and if they get what they are after then in most cases they will hook you up.
For the most part P99 players are great people and are willing to assist you!

OMG! I remember this. I hope the Staff here doesn't do that.
I mean, the warrens was a great place for low levels but I remember high levels being there to farm for their alts.

Thanks for the responses on this page folks, I appreciate the good advice!
Not BDA, at least I don't think so. I'm not familiar with what that means, I'll probs look it up here in a sec : P
Edit: Oh, Bregan D'Aerth . Nope I'm not in their guild.
My guild on live was ... I was in one called something Lightfighters? and something about wolves.
It's been like twelve years I really don't remember haha.
