Hello all,
I've been playing EQ off and on since beta 4 1999 and just recently am playing on the the new TLP servers. I gotta say the new TLP servers are quickly fading and I'm looking for a MORE classic experience so I decided to play here. I had to buy the Titanium on eBay so I can't log in until I get it but figured I'd at least say hello. Not sure exactly what class I will make can anyone make recommendations? I enjoy tanking the most and previously have played a ranger as main and shaman. I'm excited to log in....

Play the class You want, not what I want or others. You are the one that has to spend weeks on end leveling it, not me.
And, by the way, Welcome Back.

Maybe try paly or sk. Or if you really want some fun go warrior.

I am partial to paladins because that was my main on live. The exp penalty for hybrids should be removed soonish I think if that is a concern for you.
Gearing a tank is difficult/expensive but you don't have to be the #1 geared tank on the server. Best items are probably 5/55 rings x2 and a full set of banded to start. Full set of banded should run you about 80pp. Yes plate is better, but it's not that much better and it's much much more expensive. The rings are 250 each (someone correct me on prices if I am wrong)
As much as people make fun of rangers they are actually decent tanks. Flame lick is huge aggro and it costs like 10 mana.
Paladins are an enchanters best friend because you can gain aggro on a mezzed mob without breaking it. So that when you do break it (might take a few swings cuz, ya know, pally dps) you will already have aggro and it will not rush the chanter. Also on charm breaks you have stuns which can help the ench get the mob back under control.
Welcome to P99 :)

Never having played a Pally and rarely having played with one, I am curious.
How do you gain aggro on a mezzed mob without breaking mez?

Heals/buffs on others!
There are probably other ways but that's what came to mind for me.

root+facetank if it can rooted, more risky flash of light+facetank, throw heals directly after heal followed by stuns, usually helps build hate.. last resort simply ask your group to zone and proceed to break mez ;)
