View Full Version : Miscellaneous: Named Roaming Drakes in NToV

i believe some of these shouldn't be taking the paths that they are; there are next-to-zero safe call of the hero spots in NToV that should exist but don't because of named roaming drakes

many people recall that there were safe spots near/beyond the plane of mischief entrance, such as the hallway before the triplets and before the twins

http://vazaellecommunitycenter.yuku.com/topic/381/Skipping-Spawns-in-TOV?page=1#.VcOYyPlVhBc

"Caer loves to smack around Jorg and the 'ladies' in the back, so they CoTH back to the safe spot near PoM, and work their way up."
-Nov 28 01 2:10 AM

many old maps will list out these two mentioned safe spots that you can CotH to, all compiled on this page:
http://www.steveprutz.com/eq/tov.htm

right now if you were to try to stand at the "safe spot" before the triplets, Zyerek Onyxblood would roam through that hall and aggro you; i believe the same goes for the "safe spot" toward the twins, could be a different named drake

12/28/01 Patch - http://www.tski.co.jp/baldio/patch/20011228.html

"Some spots in ToV no longer safe to camp out due to New Drakes and Wurm spawns being added."

http://www.legacyofsteel.net/Archives/Post/2002-01-29

The truth is ToV is fucked beyond recognition and nerfing the CoH spot was the dumbest thing VI could have done. At least with the CoH spot two guilds could move around North Wing and not step on any toes till the end of the night.

yeah, i couldn't find any posts on any of the named roaming flurry drakes dated before 2002, except for one of them, which had a post from 12/28/01

would make sense

these should just be removed then

That legacy of steel page also confirms statue is a 5 day spawn. Is that currently what it is here?

Praise classic PoM safe spot for CotH. The one we are using now is really ghetto.

Bump.

The maps, quotes from LoS guild site and Luclin era patch notes confirm they added these pathing drakes to make the 2 safe spots in NToV no longer safe.

Can we get a classic NToV fix to remove these and allow safe CotHing/camping out in the zone?

Sure would be nice if guilds competing for NToV mobs had another 2 safe areas to set up raids so they aren't all sitting on top of each other, pulling through each other.

Also - It is classic to not have these drakes pathing through here.

Bump. It's classic to have 2 safe spots in NToV with no roaming flurry drakes.

Bump.

This came up during our nerd summit yesterday.

Removing the flurry drakes which path through NToV in the hallways between Triplets and Doubles would open up two further safe locations to set up a camp, allowing for more opportunities and more places for guilds to park out.

That aside, the far more important reason to remove the drakes is they are not classic as the evidence shows in this thread. They were added shortly after Luclin launched.

http://www.steveprutz.com/eq/tov.htm

See the first map posted. Those two points labeled "Safe Spot" currently have Flurry drakes roaming through them.

Remove these so guilds have several classic raid locations back.

There seems to be a stubborn refusal by the devs to address non-Classic issues that in any way affect the endgame, even for the better.

Bump. Need to remove these non-classic Drakes to further facilitate classic NToV raiding. Many guides include parking a mage in the safe hallways before Triplets and Doubles and pulling to there.

If this hasn't been fixed after this much time it's pretty obvious they are just ignoring the issue because they think it is better the way it is. I'm sure it makes sense to them somehow in their "infinite wisdom" to claim not classic when removing any kind of convenience to the players, but when we find issues that aren't classic that make our lives harder, they get ignored. I can't be the only one noticing this.

Daldaen

They will come around to this once the zone is done as classic intended it to be done.

Removing the Flurrys that make the Doubles corner and Triplets hallway safe is a great start to a classic NToV experience. If these descriptions aren't sufficient PM me and I'll get you the Drake spawns that aren't classic for removal.

Were all flurry drakes absent in classic or just the named ones?

Because it appears the non named ones can spawn in the place of other ones you normally find named in. The one by trips and twins can be a named or just some random Onyx Sky Defender. I think that applies to every spawn point where a flurry will spawn, as well. It differs on every clear.

No flurry drakes at all makes the clearing much more manageable with low numbers.

It's only the one/two that roam the Triplets and Doubles hallway.

The Triplets hallway and the corner at the top of the ramp to Doubles should be completely safe in classic.

If you want to insist on Luclin NToV at least give us the Vulak Ring event!

I don't see this classic fix putting that cat back in the bag unless guilds were allowed to park their forces in the hallways.

Unfortunately it seems the powers-that-be want dragons pulled to the entrance. What other conclusion could we come to knowing as we do the history of the zone. Very very shortly after Luclin release the pathing drakes were added which caused uber guilds to adapt and employ the same entrance pulling tactics we see today. This then necessitated the rooting of dragon boss mobs as such tactics Verant had a history of disdain for. Supposedly Brad saw a single monk pull Inny to the zoneline in Hate using the old style vanilla fd and promptly overhauled the skill.

There was only one patroller that I saw with a variety of mob spawns possible.

So this is just the roamer north of Vulak that pathes outside Triplets or are others impacted too? Sorry I am confused.

http://www.steveprutz.com/eq/tov.htm

The first map on this webpage shows two different "SAFE SPOTS". There should be 0 roamers that go through either of those positions.

From my P99 recollection it was only a single flurry that roamed from Triplets to Twins. So I believe Telin's fix is legit.
