Hey everyone. I am coming back to P99 after a little over a year break. I got on my shaman to root/rot some mobs on the 2nd level of CoM and realized quickly that root is completely worthless now.
Was there a change to root spells? Sorry I haven't looked over the patch notes for the past year, I figured it would be easier to ask here.
I haven't tried using Enstill yet, would it be any better? I get Paralyzing Earth next level, hoping that is still a big game changer for my class as it was in the past (I was really looking forward to it)!
Thanks guys.
Afaik nothing was changed with root on blue, could just be bad luck

I did a search and found a post discussing how root was changed, and is much less effective now. Was this on red maybe? I just switched to using Enstill over root and it is much better, but there is definitely something changed with the standard root. I used to root/rot 4 darkblues at once in CoM with little to no trouble. I cant handle 3 now because of the coooooonstant root breaks.

They did a lot of changes to magic resist a while ago, which affected roots a lot. Trying to park stuff was brutal for a while, even with MR debuffs. I don't think it's "much less effective now" though.
You used to root/rot 4 mobs with ROOT? That's nuts, given it only lasts 8 ticks at max.

Hmmmm... you have jogged my memory tecmos. I was probably using enstill back in the day, haha. I switched to using it and it made a world of difference. 4 mobs at a time, no problem. Just like it used to be. Sorry to stir the pot with this subject.

Np. It'll be even better with PE at 56 :)

I'm currently 47 Druid. My experience with root rotting over the past 2 weeks has pretty pretty terrible. I've never had a single root last to max duration.
In a few levels, at 49, I get Engulfing Roots. Has a 3 minute duration, which would literally change the game for me. Should I be excited, or should I not get my hopes up?
Weird, my root will almost always last full duration. Are you trying to root high Blues?

Root line of spells used to be very reliable and like never break. Within the last year there was a patch and now it breaks sometimes. Helps to be much higher level than your target.

Roots used to be perfectly reliable depending on level. Prior to the root changes, Tecmos literally never has a level 50 or lower mob break root early after it was tashed. It's still not going to happen terribly often now but it's not like it used to be either.

I remember from Howling Stones north at level 60 roots would NEVER break on non names. On names it would break early maybe 5% of the time.
It was the same patch where Necro lifetaps went from nearly unresistable(on non raid target mobs) to some times resisted.
Now I'm pretty sure any mob can break early. Even if you're level 60 and your mob is level 1.
It's still reliable on regular mobs that are dark blue but the higher the level the more they break. So still reliable but now it is much more a pain in the ass. It was a real nice luxury to know that most your mobs were never going to break.

Yeah, that perfectly meshes with my experience Teppler. North trash is like 43-47ish and nameds are all level 50 on the dot... you just didn't have tash cause necros like doing things the hard way ;)

That patch was pretty much the moment I officially gave up trying to solo anything outlandish with Necro. Did it effect your solo game as much?

Did this happen recently because I wanted to grab some Spider Silks for my tailoring. So I run my level 15 shaman out to North Ro for Dune Tarantulas.
At least 7 out of 10 Dune Tarantulas broke root, a second after I cast it. I would cast root, followed by tainted breath and as soon as tainted breath hit, it would say root has wore off and the Dune Tarantula would be running to attack me.

Tainted Breath has a nuke component causing roots to break prematurely.

I think I had mostly stopped playing my ench to level alts at that point, but I recall it not being too big a deal once the initial "lol root" phase was fixed. But that's working with -40 Mr on every mob.

If that's the case than what can a Shaman use for root/dotting?

All roots roll for a chance to break, each tic now.

Flash of light can keep them running while you are stacking your DoTs then root once ready to let rot.

So i'm 56 now, how does root rotting change with PE? It doesn't quite last 2 full durations of an epic dot right? Is it just more margin for error and more reliable?
