View Full Version : What was up with the Wizard Al'kabor line of spells?

Every Wizard from live to p1999 knows these spells are complete trash. Horrific in their inefficiency, the only spells you'd actually use were the pillars.

I always theorized that they used to hit all targets without a cap - thus the cost - and were nerfed with their cost never being adjusted.

What was weird is that they kept making these spells into Kunark and beyond.

Al'Kabor was the ultimate troll against his own kind, then to top it off he gave melees one of their best shoulder pieces (http://wiki.project1999.com/Strength_of_the_Elements).

I read a rumor that they originally had no limit in targets, similar to a PBAoE. During Beta a Wizard was the first to 50. I think Wizards simply exploited the power they originally had and were nerfed hard before release.

It was right up there with some of the other myths and theories

Remember the Megaladon that was supposedly in Lake Rathe in alpha/beta and then removed due to issues?

Also, my personal favorite - Mayong Mistmoore was originally in game and the model was that of the Maestro of Rancor.

I actually believe that latter part - there's no way they made a custom model for some mini boss in Hate.

I look to the Mannaburn debacle as a template of what most likely happened to Wizards during the development of the game. Lucy and the football haha. A class defining ability that made Wizards amazingly powerful in concert reduced to a completely useless ability, no middle ground for Wizards. 12 wizards killing raid targets alone: Unacceptable. 1 monk soloing Bristlebane: Awesome.

I was part of a mayong mistmoore GM event on the innoruuk server when I first started playing. Don't remember the model he used though. Was a character controlled by the GM running the event.

Man, I miss GM run events. They were so cool back in the day.

I always missed the GM events when they happened on my server :( Now when I see GMs I get excited thinking something is going to happen, but they end up just sitting there or leaving...

I always thought I'd only want to be a GM myself if I could just do GM events and nothing else. Customer service is not my strong point.

to be fair, Irontaail fought Bristlebane for over 5 hours and used some outside heals

http://planeofmischief.com/bb.htm

I was able to SOLO Bristlebane tonight .. ehhe. sort of 8-)

Lenen (BotB Povar) Druid helped .. a lil ..hehe. Like by keeping me alive for the 5 hours and 20 mins it took to kill him .. HAHAH.

Lenen kept porting back to BB and using his mana stone and with the help of a Cleric friend of his in BB who healed him up as he stoned down (Len y are you naked?) ... he was able to cont to port back up to PoM and keep me alive the whole fight .... hehe. I did ALOT of Fungi kiting (running around while getting summoned wearing a fungal tunic to regen faster then the NPC chasing you).

I had intended to get a screen shot of a complete SOLO of Bristlebane .. but it would have taken about 16 hours by my calculations ..hehe. I had started solo when Lenen felt bad for me hearing me give updates in Guild Chat ... so he came up and really cut down the time it took to kill him ... hehe.

Still Im sure killing a god with only 2 ppl is still a server-wide first ... hhehe. I'll post screen shots and log totals tomorrow 8-)

Also please note: NO EXPLOITS were used in this fight .. just summon kiting and lots of porting and toe-to-toe fighting ... hehe.

Bristlebane only hits for 139's and as a rogue Backstabs for at least 417+ .. I didnt want to find out exactly what his max was ...hehe. He only regens 1 hp per click (6 secs) which is why he can be Fungi-Kited ... but he has AT LEAST 775k Hps .. thats the damage I did .. not including ALL the nuking and FREE DOTS the Lenen added!!! .. so more likely 1 MILLION Hps !!! .. ehehe. I took 542,800 damage during the fight .. ehhe. Thanks Lenen and Fungi Tunic / Fungi-Staff / Mend (Alot) ...ehehe

All in all it was just a crazy fight ... because if you FD or Bristlebane loses agro .. he immediately despawns ..hehe. So no rest for the "Mad".

Also of note was the since Bristlebane spawns everyday at 9am as well as the many puppet gods behind stage ... ehhe. as we fought through more then 1 game day .. the puppets in the back started to multiply !!! .. eheh.

I'll get screen shots and more info when I get back on line tomorrow on the www.PlaneofMischief.com website.

Till then this is Irontaail "The Mad" wishing you all a great night 8-)

GM events just used a dark elf for mayong - but I'm pretty sure that ugly ass maestro model was the original mayong from before they pulled him

The rumor was that there were too many problems with him training to the zone and stuff like that

I remember people training the castle by pulling the gargoyles in the lake courtyard, so I believe it.

I enjoy watching random mobs run through 3 walls, whack my cleric, then run through another few walls, and then train the zone on us. Favorite zone EVAR!

A good point Ele. I guess I was just trying to show that the monk class can: Solo, Tank, PL, Completely lose agro to control hate and can Feign Death(probably one of the most useful abilities in the game). They WAY out damaged Rogues in classic and probably still do most of the time. No nerf bat completely destroyed any of these abilities yet Wizards were mercilessly beaten...

It's because Wiz's showed it could be done first, so they got slapped. When the rest came along, it was like, "too much work to do that again". The same happens with kids, the first kid get a stern upbring, but the third, the parents are like, whatever...

Megaladon was definitely never in live and all the stories claiming he was were just bullshit

The Al Kabor line back in the day had some good uses that no one dreamed of. A few wizards rolling Al kabors and Thunderclap could keep certain raid mobs from casting CH. I know that I was laughed at when I was telling people this until I brought my wizard into PoG to demonstrate it. No one laughed after that.

Megaladon was actually in game during beta. I can't confirm if it was on live or not. **Some times** the rumors are actually true.

There was GM event in early live EQ that had mayong mistmoore controlled by a GM. I seem to remember he was just a plain DE model with a cool looking red robe.

The "Megalodon" in Lake Rathe was actually just naked "Kraken" or something. It was like a lvl 15 large-tree snake model that didn't drop anything the two times I've come across it. It still spawns I think, or atleast it did for as long as I played on live EQ. There are also some other rare/random water snake-like nameds in Dagnor's Cauldron that I believe fed into this "Megolodon" rumor. lol

Thought he had a blighted looking robe?

Thought he had a blighted looking robe?

yeah, you're right.

I did some googling and it looks like originally Mayong Mistmoore's graphic was the Maestro of Rancor.

Then he was just a Dark Elf in a more bluish hued blighted-look-a-like robe, I've personally never seen a robe the same color as the one I saw in the screenshot though.
