I am going to gear out my level 9 sk which has been shelved and stripped down to nothing for awhile while I tried other classes since coming to the server recently. I will sell all of my enchanter's stuff and some of my druids and hopefully end up with about 3k to spend, maybe 4k. I will be duo'ing with a shaman mostly with some full party grouping as main tank. How would you gear him?

I have 2 of the 5/55 rings for him so far and 3-4k to spend now.

thanks

Do you have the no drop shield that drops from the rogue epic mob in Kith yet (http://wiki.project1999.com/Ashenbone_Shield)? If not, I would hang out there waiting for someone to kill him and ask for it. Pair that with a spine piercer (http://wiki.project1999.com/Spine_Piercer), and you have a weapon and shield for basically free that will last you a pretty long time.

Next, buy a full set of banded (http://wiki.project1999.com/Large_Banded_Armor) for about 100p. Then, start buying darkforge pieces (http://wiki.project1999.com/Darkforge_Armor_Quests) as you see them in EC to replace banded. You might be able to get all the pieces before your money runs out.

Get either a bloodstained mantle (http://wiki.project1999.com/Bloodstained_Mantle) or tattered mantle (http://wiki.project1999.com/Tattered_Mantle) or crested spaulders (http://wiki.project1999.com/Crested_Spaulders) for your shoulders, basically whichever you see cheapest. Werewolf skin cloak (http://wiki.project1999.com/Werewolf_Skin_Cloak) also pretty cheap for your back. Mask of wurms (http://wiki.project1999.com/Mask_of_Wurms) is probably the best face you can afford and stay under budget. Try to find a sludge girdle (http://wiki.project1999.com/Sludged_Girdle) or seb scale belt (http://wiki.project1999.com/Sebilite_Scale_Belt) for your waist. Chipped bone collar (http://wiki.project1999.com/Chipped_Bone_Collar) for your neck.

Earring is the only slot that's going to suck because you won't be able to afford earring of essence (http://wiki.project1999.com/Earring_of_Essence) or ivandyr's hoop (http://wiki.project1999.com/Ivandyr%27s_Hoop) or fingerbone hoop (http://wiki.project1999.com/Fingerbone_Hoop) or even diamondine earrings (http://wiki.project1999.com/Diamondine_Earring) on that budget. Look for maybe 2x gold sapphire earrings (http://wiki.project1999.com/Golden_Sapphire_Earring) or electrum has the opposite stats (4str2int), but you probably want the higher INT more as a troll.

Looks like a Troll from your sig, so cant use that shield.... clay guardian shield is cheapish 25ac 50hp, blood fork is 15/28 and cheapish if you can find one for sale.

A Nathsar greatsword is a good cheap 2hander until 20.

What's your highest level char? Farming your own set of darkforge would be the best bet for armor if you can.

Level 19 is my highest

Ok won't be able to get your own Darkforge then. There are some really cheap ac items you can buy, Enameled black chestplate, Azure sleeves etc... just fill out the slots you cant afford with banded or bronze.

Well, my budget just dropped by 2k, I put the gear from my chanter that I was gonna sell on the ground in a couple bags to get my with druid to sell and I couldn't log back on. It took me 10 minutes to get back on and stuff had disappeared. Last time I make that mistake.

If you have 1-2K, buy a decent 2H weapon for a couple hundred PP. You're a Troll so you have Slam anyway, so not having the shield doesn't matter so much. Fill out your armor with banded or bronze (either/or) then just save the remainder towards higher quality equipment, haste, or a circlet of shadow.

No, do not do this. Spread your money around to buy ARMOR with stats like HP, mana, stam, and MR. Do not funnel all of your money into a single item, much less a weapon. You're an SK. You're an SK without haste. Your DPS is going to suck either way. You'd be much better served pumping up your HPs and tanking stats and being a great TANK instead of a low quality DPSer.

There are some really good 2h SK weapons that are super cheap though, not like he'd be blowing all his plat on it.

This is NOT good advice for a lowbie hybrid tank, Danth's advice was much better. You won't always be grouped, you need a decent weapon to kill stuff solo. Also, just as important, under L40 or so your damage output can be decent relative to other classes (excluding epic rogue twinks, of course.) Don't fall into the trap of imagining that all of your agro will come from spells. Agro + AC + HP are the three crucial tanking stats, melee agro is not meaningless to hybrid tanks.

* get a decent bang-for-the-buck weapon
* cover yourself in cheap armor (banded/bronze)
* replace individual armor pieces with decent bang-for-the-buck pieces as you can afford to (including initial gearing)
* save for haste once you've got fine plate or better in every slot

The 5ac/55hp rings are great to start. As a troll your mana pool will be more of a mana puddle, so watch for gear that gives you +int or +mana without sacrificing AC or HP and learn the most efficient use of your spells to boost agro. Any cheap Blood Ember pieces you see are great, the high AC on them will be very helpful.

Green Jade Halberd (http://wiki.project1999.com/Green_Jade_Halberd) offers both +HP and STA, plus other stats for a 28/38 ratio and it's not too expensive either.

Petition this information, they will restore you the gear in time if it was not picked up by another player and actually did expire. Just takes time.

Thanks guys, all geared now and good to go. I picked up A noc blade, full banded with a clay shield and a few armor upgrades including crested spaulders, glowing bone collar, azure sleeves, str/int ears and pretty happy with this start. no need for a 2 hander cause noc blade hits hard enough

I also submitted a petition for the lost gear.

That is more than a start, it's a pretty solid set up. There's plenty of people in the early days of P99 and Live who still wore bronze on planar raids. So what you have should last you a long, long time. Have fun.
