play eq with no pvp option

Not being able to kill sockers and people who grief must be extremely frustrating

well, I log in, then check chat channels if anyone needs a port or help with CR. If not, I usually goof around for the limited time to actually get to play. How about u?

I don't play a Paladin, so I don't think I can add anything to this discussion.

Griefers are not a big issue as far as I can tell. Though it does happen occasionally.

It's not too bad. You do run into some asshats, but you run into some decent folks as well. Occasionally you get a few petty griefers, or Ayn Rand objectivists, or dudes that camp something so long you wonder if they died at the keyboard.

But all in all it's a decent experience. I seem to see more asshattery at the higher end though.

You just deal with it. Most of the time if you show kindness it is returned. I am willing to deal with not being able to retaliate against asshats. I do like PVP, but not at the risk of losing everything on my body.

From someone who Only played PVP on live for years... It's actually really nice going care ear. EQ pvp was always terrible anyways.
Not carrying cash, not wearing items and not looking over your back, or getting rooted while soloing and dying and expect death... Opposed to the only benefit.. Killing sockers.

Having a pvp option only helps when you can kill the person in your way. So outside of being over geared or playing a handful of classes, YOU will be the one getting killed and removed from YOUR camp and not the other way around.

Playing in Blue is like living in the Real World. You don't kill people that cut you off on the road, jump in front of you in line, don't shoot the person that takes the last Energy Drink you like in front of you at the gas station!!:eek:

It is sort of how we live our normal lives. There are nice people and some Asshats.

Now when you play Red most people think they are Ted Bundy and want to kill and eat everyone. Well sorry, that is NOT the real world. It's a made up world where you get to live out your twisted, made up, I want to kill anything that walks dreams. :o

So yeah most of us are normal here on Blue, and really don't want anything to do with Red. So go back to your wet dreams. :(

Its really not a big deal till 55+ and you start raiding. You grind mobs, make friends, and if you're smart stay out of the easy zones that get packed. Like 15 zones in this game are crowded the rest only have a handful of soloers or plers. Go to these unpopular zones and have fun don't fight over 5 mob camps in mistmoore when you have the rest of the world.

People are generally more than willing to share although I'm only level 52 and haven't gone anywhere near a truly poopsocked and camped area. PvP seems like an interesting idea, but for someone really playing EverQuest for the first time (this is the highest I've ever gotten) I have no idea where to start. I'd also say that the brief glimpse I've had into people on red (via these forums) isn't particularly appealing. ;)

This is laughable my friend lol (this is not a flame)

Red would see an exponential increase in population if it managed to even hit 500-600 average population. The population is still just too low to attract people. The low population has more to do with the timing of the launch of P99 Red and less to do with the fact that people "don't like PvP"

While leveling on Red you won't even see PvP for a long time due to the low population. A lot of the social aspects of the game are lost not because its PvP but simply because there is a lack of people with whom to interact.

I also believe the whole "Bluebie" argument is perfectly valid. The fact of the matter is that most of the players who play Blue really aren't great at EQ and really don't give a shit. The definition of "hardcore" on Blue is not being an excellent player and challenging yourself. "Hardcore" on Blue is poopsocking for 12 hours at a time (which requires 0 skill, just time) or leveling your 5th alt at Chardok (0 skill, way too much time and non-playing of EQ) and a great deal of the players are wannabes who came from other more recent MMOs. These players have no interest in adding another dimension of challenge and depth to the game, they just want their "nanna-nanna-boo-boo" cash camp rule lawyering and Forumquest. TL-DR : nubs

I have seen a deeply disturbing amount of sociopathic behavior in my years on this server. Blue players are -no better- than Red players. That claim is absolutely ludicrous. I'd say they're worse because they want to lay claim to their pixels they will create and abide by self-imposed and negotiated rules that have nothing to do with the actual mechanics of the game im order to rule lawyer their way out of everything. They do this for ----years----- instead of going over to Red where they just don't have to deal with that bullshit at all.

This is by no stretch of the imagination "normal" behavior, let's get real.

I'm only salty about how every other week theres a "Blue is better, Red is evil" post and in reality we're all a bunch of losers and EQ is full of assholes. Its completely fucking asinine anymore.

Nobody who plays a 16 year old elf sim for 30+ hours a week is "normal," and really that's fine.

I will say that this myth of people on Blue actually being altruistic and "better than the Red community" has to stop, its ridiculous. The rule lawyering is completely out of control and everyone is constantly running Fraps.

Real classic, guys.

People run fraps on red.
Rule lawyering only effects the raiders everyone else doesn't really care.
Every week there is a red is better then blue and blue is better then red but who cares its on the forums.
As for blue being altruistic its pretty true. When I first started out on blue I talked to people and told them I was new and was helped out. Was given a couple plat to help buy early spells and some buffs.
I tried red and the first person I met was a twinked out level 3 that killed me. I have tried red multiple times but because of the low population if you don't hit a sweet spot when a bunch of people are starting new you pretty much get screwed. When you do hit that sweet spot of 3 to 4 people you have fun and usually end up hitting 40+ by the end but then the group dies out as people just stop playing.

I'm sorry, what? All I ever see is Red players say how amazing Red is and that people should switch from casual status. Wtf are you even talking about?

Go shoot some fireworks at your neighbor's house or something.

P99 is no different than any other MMO, except we play for free, where any other half way decent MMO has a sub. By your logic, anyone who plays video games 30+ hours a week isn't "normal." That's an opinion and normality cannot be defined by you for anyone else but yourself.

Now, stop your Red promoting and move on with your "unusual" life.

/shrug, just as in the real world, u can bump into just about anyone @ anytime. good or bad... awesome or asshat.... they're all still just human beings wanting to play the same game (but in their own way).
I logged in a character today, gave away everything on it and deleted the character. Did I make that persons day? It seemed like it by their reaction. I then made a lvl 1 halfling warrior and some nice person from Omni buffed me up and I had fun. So a "one hand washes the other" kinda theory, I guess.

I've met nice people on both servers. Two days ago on red, someone playing a troll shaman noticed that my Druid was dressed in rags, and he gave me a pile of fine steel weapons and gems to sell, as well as a couple of low level pieces of magic gear. Then he buffed me to the hilt and waved goodbye. It was great because I was missing a lot of spells until that point. There is no monopoly of altruism or douchebaggery on either server.

I will freely admit that the forums paint a bad picture of red though.

The same could be argued about the blue rnf forums they make that server look like a bunch of butthurt crybabies

Whereas the red forums portray the image that everyone is either a bully or psychopath

@ the guy who played one of the zeks on live do you ever not find it just kind of carefree to the point of boredom? the constant pressure of having anyone at anytime come in and hinder what im doing makes eq exciting the pve aspects of the game are very simple and dont require much beyond knowledge of basic mechanics

Also small group pvp just saying fuck it boys we're going hunting is something i purely couldnt play the game without
