View Full Version : Want to start a dedicated group

Hey everybody. I'm coming back to EQEmu after a couple years gone. I've basically set aside my two characters (neither of which I ever got very high in level) and am starting up new toons. In this, I thought it would be a great idea to find 5 other players who can set aside 1 or 2 evenings a week to get together and level from 1-60 together. It would only take up one character slot to do this. And here are the guidelines I propose:
1) Communication- We need a way to communicate outside of EQ. Skype may be a great way to do this, or even a Facebook group (though Skype is preferable).
2) Roles- We need to have a strong group with tank, DPS, healer, CC, and nukes. So before the group starts, we would discuss what we're going to make.
3) Roleplay- The best part about EQ is the fact that it has such a heavy focus on character roleplay. That being said, I think it would be fun to roleplay as much as possible. Throw in a few race/class combinations to provide a challenge of getting everybody into the same cities, speak only in each others' languages, and have fun making a story. On that note, we will not start with twinking. All of us will work from the ground up to gain money and armor.
4) Leveling- These characters would be set aside to level ONLY on the nights set aside for the party. Tradeskills and whatnot would take place during the week's downtime when we aren't leveling. Obviously, it's fine if you have to kill an odd creature that aggros you, but otherwise, we try to level together. If a player misses a night in leveling, they can try to catch up, or just keep going in the next session.
5) Questing- We all have the occasional quests that we want to do to get gear and cash, right? Well lets all agree to help each other out on those quests, to keep the story and the roleplay going!
If anybody is interested or has any feedback (not disprespectful), please reply and message me! It would be great to get something like this going. :)

This sounds fascinating! I'd love to read about or watch this if you get it going. I wonder what you'd have to do starting out if you only spoke your native languages instead of Common.

I'd be happy to give you updates on what's happening. :) Would you be interested in being a part of it?
Also, you'd have to start by teaching each other your native languages. What would probably end up happening is that everybody would settle into one language to speak to the group in.
But if it's too much, we could always just nerf that and stick to common.
It sounds like fun, but right now I'm focused on my current set of characters. I'd be down for the occasional shenanigans, though.

Sounds great! We'll be glad to have you. When we get a few more takers, we'll start working out what nights we want to meet on.
What role are you hoping to play? I'm thinking I definitely want to be either a ranger or a dps caster.

Maybe you can fill in if somebody in the core group can't make it on certain nights. :)

Sounds fun, what days and how many hours? Work and all you know how it is.

Sure! If you get started without a full group, I do have a lower level character (lvl 8) who can join as well.

I would definately be interested in this, especially if its a couple nights a week, no problemo. I'm EST and could spare a couple hours a few nights and am really interested in the roleplay aspect. Returning player to Eq played for a few years way back in the day. Am down for healing or nuker. PM me or keep posting updates about this group.

I am doing something similar (without the role play element) with some of my RL friends. Some of us have other characters at different levels and some have just this one character but whenever we are all playing we get 'The Group' going and go on adventure for loot and xp!
Something you might want to consider is the XP penalty some races/classes get as this will impact on your leveling together. As an example, in our group I am playing as an Ogre SK and I have to play more hours just to try and stay up with the cleric.
As the grouping level expands you will inevitably become more relaxed about ensuring everyone is the same level because there will be times people slack off and the rest of you want to play.
If you manage to get it going then I am sure you will have a great time as the best thing with doing this is you can go to places that you wouldn't normally if you were having to look for a pick up group.
Good Luck!

I am located in the PST time zone, so the times will be relative to that zone.

It will all depend on the availability of the players. Once we get the group together, we'll work that out before we make our characters.

Hey, thanks!
I'll definitely think about the exp penalties as well. We'll have to work something out for that... Maybe the characters with the exp penalties can have "side quest" nights where they party up together for a few hours away from the rest of the group. Just an idea; we'll work it out. :)

I know this may not be what you were thinking but it almost feels like there are enough players to start a guild. It would be difficult to all stay close in level range that way though.

Okay, So here's who we have for the group roster thus far:
-myself
-MissingNo
-ss847859
-jmr0687
-Efften
We only need one more player and we have the full group! If nobody responds here, I'll ask a friend in-game if he wants to join us. He's brand new to the game (only played for a month on live), so the experience will be very very fresh to him, and all that more exciting!
I am available pretty much any nights except for Saturday and Wednesday. What I need from those who are interested in the party is to send me a PM with their skype names and what nights they are available. From Skype, we can all discuss as a group how to work our schedules around.

I'm totally up for starting a guild with our core party. It wouldn't be an annoying recruiting guild though; it would be a private guild with players we enjoyed our experience with. :)

I was levelling Jimjam up with some RL friends, but basically I went a bit overboard and ended up having to level up a second Halfling warrior of a similar name and tell the group I had got a name change.
So was born Jumbeat, Drinker of Lager and BANE OF RUNNYEYE!

I'm very interested in this if there is still room. I never made it very far in EQ mainly due to lack of a group to keep me going and keep it fun.

We have already formed our 6 members, but for those who expressed interest afterward, I'll keep your usernames in case somebody has a schedule that simple cannot be worked around.

Would love to hear how the whole things pans out, especially if it turns into a little RP guild.
I'm keen for updates(:

I wish you well.
Back in 2004' I made a similar request on the original EQ forums. Before I knew it, I was the leader of a 32 member guild named Tuesday Night Fight Club. Our first night we had three groups of six level 4's out slaughtering kobolds in Steamfont Mountains. We even killed our first Named Mob that night. Bugglegupp wiped out over half of us before we put her down.
Naturally, with such a large group, disagreements soon arose over such topics as twinking, where to go, alts, etc.
We had an anti-twinking rule that no one could use armor or weapons that they could not obtain on their own. However, we had a few members who were very good at Bazzaar trading and were soon quite rich and sporting fancy gear while most of us were still in cloth armor and wielding rusty weapons. There was strong disagreement over whether or not wearing gear purchased with self earned platinum was a violation of the rule.
Long story-short, by the end of our first year we were down to 7 or 8 permanent members, but a dedicated group of six remained together for about five years unti life circumstances slowly forced some of us to leave the game.
Good news is that we never closed down our guild forum board and kept in touch even though we weren't playing anymore. Now the six of us are together again on P1999 and have reformed our guild. We now play on Wednesdays and call ourselves Ghosts of TNFC.
This group are some of my best friends and will probably remain so forever. May you be as fortunate with the friends you make here!

Always wanted to do this, always had problems because I play off hours (10pm through morning). Your thread gives me some hope though, perhaps ill start my own soon. I attempted to on the red server but had very little response.

red server xp is ludicrously fast atm, too fast for this type of group imo. If you wanted to try to get some type of group like this together on blue i'd be down, i play about your hours atm.
