Am i allowed to have a character name that an NPC has if it's available? I made one but i dont want to start leveling it if it will likely get changed.

Very likely to get changed, don't do it.

This is against the naming policy.

The following names are considered unacceptable.

[snipped]

Proper names from EverQuest (e.g. Rathe, Karana). This also includes the first or last name of any significant EverQuest NPC (e.g. Dorn, Trumpy, Karn).

Read the rest of the rules here! https://www.project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2651

There are hundreds of names in EQ. It would highly depend on the significance of the NPC.

Raid mobs, gods, epic quest NPCs or very well known NPCs like Shady, Pyzjin, and Hadden wouldn't be acceptable. Lesser known NPCs with common names like Milea, Shalena, and Alonso would probably be fine.

*This is my opinion and not an official clarification.

Can confirm. GM changed all my character names 3 weeks after I started. I advise you to make the name, never know if it'll last.

Worth mentioning: have backup names prepared in case they do change them. Because they're gonna name them for you if you can't come up with a name that doesn't break the rules.

I had them make up 5 names because I take days to pick one.

I always see barbarians camped out at Hadden's spawn with the name Haddden or Haddin.

well, I probably shouldnt say it but I have named 2 characters in 5 years on this server the same as NPC names, and I didnt even know I was doing it. One toon is still active but I deleted Cognoggin the mage years ago. Unitl about 2 yeara ago I had never ran straight west out of Steamfont where Cognoggin stands. I had no idea it was an NPC. My other toon is a Druid named Ulan. If the staff decides to change it I'm ok with it, just give me a chance to decide.

Is there any reason to do this besides trolling people?

Being the same gender and race really did not help your case lol

He was also planning to use the same surname, as I recall from seeing his comments on Sirken's twitch stream.
