View Full Version : Early leveling as a Dark Elf Ench - where to?

Currently level 5, and I figured I'd hang around East Commonlands and kill random stuff until I was high enough to join an orc group. But it's not going that well; too many greens/reds, not enough blues/whites, and there's a lot of other people here to share farm with.
So I'm wondering if I should keep at it here (maybe go snag some buffs from the tunnel bazaar) or go somewhere else, like back to Nektulos.
If I really wanted to have an adventure, maybe I could pick up the Half-Elf Illusion spell and get myself ported to the Faydark - I at least know that area quite well, having played nothing but Wood/High elves back when I played on live. But I don't know the details of how illusion spells work, and even if an illusion would let me not get shanked by guards, would it also let me access Kelethin/Felwithe merchants and class trainers?

I wouldn't go to Faydwer and kill orcs, because you'll mess up your Neriak faction.
What's your deity? That'll factor into your faction standing while in the illusion. If agnostic you should be fine while Half-elf to most good city guards.

I suffered from this a lot last week when I started my first char on P99.
There isn't a great answer here honestly. You just need to find things you can safely handle and slay as much as you can until 7 or 8. At 7-8 people will start to accept you for the WC Orcs or the EC Orc camp.

North ro might have some 5-6ish mobs.

Ah, yeah, I forgot about Crushbone orcs giving negative Neriak faction. And I'm agnostic, incidentally.

As long as you're Agnostic, you won't have any trouble using your illusions to walk around in unfriendly cities. Enchanters are a "neutral" class so as long as you're agnostic and appear as a race friendly to that faction, you won't be KOS.
At this level, familiarity probably trumps everything else in my opinion.. I'd go back to GFay and do the orc hill -> Crushbone route. If this is your first character (or if you need the money) you can save and sell the belts and pads for some decent cash.
If you are adventurous. hit up Field of Bone and Kurn's. They are the best newbie areas by far and will carry you to 20 with ease.

As a troll, I got up to level 9 in Innothule Swamp. Grab a sow and head down to Grobb and ask for a bind there. Kill frogloks and Kobold Hunters (at the Hand). Also check out this thread for ideas: http://www.project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?t=126844

in my own experience CB was best until 12 and then charm solo.

The faction change is insignificant, really. Unlike most cities, the Dark Elf Warrior guild (Indigo Brotherhood (http://wiki.project1999.com/Indigo_Brotherhood)) are a different faction from the guards (Dread guard inner/outer). Just avoid the warrior guild and you'll be fine.

I'll probably do that, then.

Until 12 you are very limited. There is no real easy answer, your choices are root/nuke or nuke/suicide tank with pet dps. Keep in mind at your level your pet will easily do more damage than you and steal xp, so make sure you get at least 51% of the damage so pet doesn't steal xp. This thread (http://www.project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?t=146423) has all the info you will need once you get charm. If you choose to go to Crushbone it puts you in a good spot on Faydwer for a while. I've trashed my faction everywhere, and just putting on an illusion takes me to at least indifferent, most times amiable. Sucks if you zone and don't pay attention and run into a guard though.

aim towards doing a group in Befallen when level ready so you can learn how to enchanter. That should be your only goal for now. Befallen.

My DE Chanter hit 12 today - an important milestone: Charm, Slow, Bind Affinity, DOT upgrade, and Pet upgrade. Breeze? Haste? Strictly to call all the nerds to the yard when you want to group [16th level]. 12th level is when your options open - at least in terms of your Chanter's spell armoury.
1-4: Nektulos
5-8: Innothule Swamp
8-10: Qeynos Aqueducts
10-12: EC
I didn't see the point of grouping before 12th, because I really didn't add anything to groups, and I was levelling whilst obtaining Woven and obtaining lowbie Caster drops in Qeynos Aqueducts.
Tactics were melee or Tashan / Pet taunt / DOT / med / DOT / med / DD. Rinse and repeat. Root if the fight was heading south and I needed time to conjure a new pet, and/or I needed to run to the zone line. Mez for any adds.
My short-terms goals are:
- Woven Armour (head back to Innothule and farm Froglok Foragers for my missing pieces)
- Stein of Moggok
- Kill Drosco [Qeynos]
- Kill one of the Clothespinner women [Qeynos]
- Head to Befallen or Upper Guk
In all honesty, pack your bags and come back to EC in a few levels time.

OMG I levelled my enchanter on Tallon Zek in the Qeynos Aqueducts!
There some good camps in there, good for picking up basic chanter skills (and you can work on a stein of moggok while in that corner of the world).
If you want some cheap +cha pick up a silk evening tunic there until you can afford a real enchanter robe.

Looks like Faydwer was a good choice - got a port, a bind, learned an illusion, and got half a level from 20 minutes in an Orc Hill group. I'll stick around here and Crushbone till I learn Charm and then see what I want to do next. Thanks for all the advice, guys!

Sounds like you got it figured out, but Befallen would have been good too. The pet is surprisingly tanky at low level and would actually do really well against mobs in there, provided you summoned a good level one

One tip that took a minute for me to learn, if you feel lazy and want to just root/nuke with pet tank, grabbing a cheap torch off vendors and giving it to pet forces duel wield. Also works for charmed mobs you plan on keeping with heal partner.

In EC, along that "desert" area wall (the one the tunnel is on) there are lots of rattlesnakes and pumas that should be blue-yellow to you. There is also a graveyard along that wall that pop skeletons, again blue-yellow. In the green area are tons of bears and shadow wolves to keep you occupied and leveling all the way to 8.
If you cant get an orc group by 8, just hunt the scarabs in both the green area and desert wall. Along the desert wall there are also scarabs and the grave yard with blue skellies and yellow mummies by the grave yard. Just be wary of the ghouls, which require magic weapons to affect.
Also there is a skellie hill in Nektulos. To get there, zone in from EC, make a right and follow the wall. You will see a hill with skellies there.
Happy hunting.

Sounds like the OP found a good solution, but for other newer players that may be reading this thread: on its own, EC is an okay area to level pre-8 (and above-average post 8 with belts). With tunnel buff access, it's the fastest leveling in the game if you don't have a PL or bought a bunch of xp turnins. If you find yourself struggling for a couple levels, go to the tunnel and ask (politely) for some buffs - especially a regen & damage shield. With those two buffs and a SoW, you can easily get half a level before the damage shield runs out six minutes later.

I don't like the Crushbone answer for a DE. I don't like to ruin the faction of my characters people, even if it is only for the warrior guild. But to each his own.
If you feel like staying in Faydwer there are 4 minotaur spawns in steamfont that are never camped and are all solo pulls. Once you enter steamfont immediately turn left and follow the wall north and you will see 4 static spawns. They are great exp until 16. You may have to med a bit after each one, or after a pair, but that is fine because they are all single pulls. I don't think any mobs even wander up there. It's basically no cash, but very fast exp and it eliminates the rididulous battle of trying to get the sisters camp in lfay. Honestly though, you are close enough to sisters where you could ask the person camping it to send you a tell when they are about to leave and then you could take it over once they are done.
Use your pet when soloing, it is very strong at lower levels and it is not hard to out dps. Unless maybe if you give it a torch, I didn't know of that trick when I was that level.
