Hello all,

I'm making a return to the game and have decided to roll a new character, thus I have begun acquiring plenty of animal pelts. I'm curious though, which pelts are worth any value to real player and worth saving and which should I just pass off to NPC merchants? No need to mention HQ bear pelt, I know the answer on that one :)

Thank you for your assistance!

I found making leather padding was a good move. Really reduced bank clutter as it is stackable, thus letting me horde more things in my bank. Disadvantage is you have to source spiderling silks form somewhere.

I'd investigate how much interest you can get in selling leather padding before you go down this route though.

I love making my own armour. I find it satisfying in any number of ways- not only is it cool to wear something you've made yourself but I also find it builds character. My shaman is a rugged self-sufficient Man of the Noth - he kills the beasts AND has the skills to turn their skins into useful items! Though time consuming at the beginning (you will make substantial contributions to the lantern fabrication industry for example).

It's up to you really. I do most of my own tradeskilling when I'm too tired to focus on raiding or study, but it's too early to go to bed. When watching a movie or something.

If you are a tailor, they are all important. Ruined pelts to get your skill to 26 or so, afterwards to make armor for noobs.

The following are skins needed for other containers:

Bearskin Potion Bag

One Grizzly Bear Skin and one Silk Cord. When you put 5 or 10 Shaman-made potions into the bag and hit Combine, they will be stacked.

Weight - 2.5, Slots - 10, Holds - Small, Trivial - 68.

Fleeting Quiver

One High Quality Lion Skin from the Highland Lions in North Karana, one Aviak Egg Oil, a Griffon Feather, a Vial of Distilled Mana and a Fleeting Quiver Pattern. If the Quiver is equipped above any non-magical quivers in your inventory, it will reduce the delay on your bow.

Weight - 0.4, Slots - 6, Holds - Medium (arrows only), Weight Reduction - 60%, Trivial - 222.

Handmade Backpack

One High Quality Bear Skin and one Backpack Pattern

Weight - 3.0, Slots - 10, Holds - Large, Weight Reduction - 10%, Trivial - 88

Tailored Quiver

One High Quality Cat Pelt and one Quiver Pattern

Weight - 0.4, Slots - 6, Holds - Medium (arrows only), Weight Reduction - 0% (22% in Velious), Trivial - 115

Tailored Large Bag

One Low Quality Bear Skin and one Silk Cord

Weight - 0.8, Slots - 6, Holds - Large, Weight Reduction - 10%, Trivial - 41

Tailored Large Belt Pouch

One Low Quality Cat Skin and one Silk Cord

Weight - 0.6, Slots - 6, Holds - Medium, Weight Reduction - 10%, Trivial - 37

Tailored Small Bag

One Low Quality Wolf Pelt and one Silk Cord

Weight - 0.4, Slots - 4, Holds - Medium, Weight Reduction - 10%, Trivial - 31

Tailored Wrist Pouch

One Ruined Wolf Pelt and one Silk Cord

Weight - 0.3, Slots - 4, Holds - Tiny, Weight Reduction - 10%, Trivial - 26
Other Items

Leather Padding

One Silk Thread and one Low Quality Skin (Wolf, Cat or Bear).
Creates a Leather Padding, which is a stackable item used in smithing. It doesn't matter which kind of skin you start with - the end results will always be the same.
Becomes trivial at skill 31.

Silk Bandage

Two Silk Threads. Silk Bandages weigh 0.2 each, as opposed to a normal Bandage at 0.5.
Becomes trivial at skill 21.

Silk Cord

Combine three Silk Threads in a Sewing Kit.
Becomes trivial at skill 26.

Tailor-made Whip

One Medium Quality Skin (Wolf or Cat - Bear Skin does not work), four Heady Kiolas and one Whip Pattern.
A Tailored Whip has damage 7, delay 33 and weighs 6.0. Becomes trivial at skill 36.

Can someone confirm if the Wiki price grab thing is correct that the High Quality Lion skins sell for 400-500pp?

just a note, I don't believe bow haste from quivers is yet implemented.

Also, thick grizzly bear skins are not used to make potion bags. Many times I see people attempting to sell them in EC, but they are useless.

HQ Bear Hides and Grizzly Bears skins? are the only 2 skins worth looting at low levels to sell. Rest are to hard to get at low levels that sell for good, or great money.

Now if you want to raise your tailoring skills and make your own stuff, that is a different story. :D

There's a much smaller market for HQ cat and wolf skins than bear. Expect anywhere from 5-15pp (depending on generosity or desperation) for those but grizzly bear skins, HQ bear skins are more reliable. Polar bear skins are also and can go for prices comparable with the other bear skins but they can take longer to sell.

Took me awhile to figure this out. But indeed, no one wants Thick Grizzly Bear Skins.
