I just started playing and NOBODY talks. It's weird.. You would think that people who take the time to set this whole thing up and play old school EQ would be a bit more social. Nobody wants to group to level, nobody replies in zones. It's like a bunch of bots running around. Quite strange. Thought Queynos would be a bit more.. sociable. Am I missing something?

I've never started a character in the Qeynos area, so I can't say much about the crowd there, but I do know that the Greater Faydark area is packed with people and is very talkative. If you want, I can swing through that area for you and give you a ride to butcher block with a bind near Kelethin. Won't be on for another few hours or so, but just let me know!

I loved leveling my mage near Qeynos, but I had a very talkative guild at the time, so maybe I didn't miss it? I never had trouble finding groups in Blackburrow. I've been leveling my enchanter in Oasis and spend hours in groups and usually end up with those people on my friends list. I love the community here! Give another spot a chance.

Visiting Qeynos and saying the whole community is bad/doesn't talk is like being a foreigner who visits only Detroit and says America is a shithole. Small sample error. Start in or migrate to freeport/EC, Kelethin or Field of Bone. The only other issue you may have is what time you are playing. This server has a lull in population around 1 am central to to noon central. (approximately)

Qeynos can be a little different at times because a lot of people start there solely for the uber-fast leveling potential provided by the quests there (primarily gnoll fangs). You can still find people there that want to group, but they tend to be outnumbered by the people that just want to get to level 20 in four hours - especially during peak hours and/or double exp weekends.

wait: how long did you try?
because, you know, it's still the intrawebs. Things definitely used to be more social 15 years ago, because it was all so new. Today people can be a bit more aloof or simply probably doing multiple things at once (I write Carly Rae Jepsen fan fiction while I level).
So you just have to stick with it, and eventually the law of probability kicks in, and other social players show up and there you go. As a rule, I only begin to get worried if after an hour I can't find something to do.
And that shit's classic, ain't it Mr. Calvin?

For what it's worth, being in a group where the only thing that gets said is "Pulling %t INC" was never considered a social interaction during live.

In my observation, it comes and goes. I wind up soloing a lot under 15 because the grouping synergies aren't that great and I'm often doing specific things to set up my character that will get me necessary equipment or money.
I still try to be helpful and answer questions when they arise, and grouping with friends, even new ones is more tempting than just randomly.

That was 95% of my grouping experience on live. Most social interaction was /random for loot or gratz when somebody leveled.

Dear, that's not much fun! I'd say more like 75% of pickups went like that most of the time but there would be little spikes of real chat over one thing or another from time to time, which helped make it more enjoyable.

It is hit and miss. Sometimes I'm in groups that won't talk even when I'm trying. Other times I can't get them to shut up long enough to realize our cleric pulled aggro and died. Seems to get better around 30 for the most part. YMMV

I started a necro in that area (which I've sort of abandoned now) and I found it very sociable! The general approach works for any lowbie zone - Just try to find a like-minded player of similar level, ask if they want to team up, and start small-talking!
Alternatively, ask some q's in ooc or somesuch. BE the social you want to see in the world!

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that the deleted thread was the one in which Red players reacted to the recent (contentious) /OOC ruling.

I was in a full group yesterday in Guk and there was a ton of interaction in it. But I must admit it is more rare than I remember back in the days of live.
Seems to be a LOT more quite than you would think. But if you start talking it can start others to talk also. :)
But yes, Qeynos is about one of the worse places in the game to get into a group in my opinion. Go to EC like has been mentioned.

In the last week or so that I've been on I haven't seen it be very quiet in any zone I have ventured in or in groups. The guy I play and duo with almost 100% of the time is talkative and can get groups to chatting quite a bit lol, but when he's not on and I have joined a group or two, I attempt to do small talk and it works. I think it's just who you group with. Some are lively, some just want to play in silence. I love the social aspect I have discovered again on P1999.
Just look up Jezzabellaa or Nuklaim if you need some social interaction in groups. We have it and then some to spare. ;) Lol

Guys, I'm saying useless things in ooc and nobody is replying to me. This community sure is odd.

I notice that very few people talk in ooc when I'm out and about. Just occasional questions about mechanics or quests, etc. And when they do talk, I wish they wouldn't ;)
I assume either people restrict their conversations to guild or group, or everyone knows the game so well that questions about mechanics lead to an answer, and that's it, no further interaction needed.

I find this odd, because every group I am in people talk.
Most of time, when I am in a zone with 20+ people there is a conversation going on in ooc.
Just my 2c.

I find this odd, too. I always have ooc chatter when I need it because I start it if it's quiet. *shrug*

for me ooc usually happens when someone has a question. It is either answered immediately or there is some small discussion about it. During football season this changes and ooc is rampant with NFL team love/hate.

Honestly the only time I have to chat is when I am sitting or standing around doing nothing in game. Otherwise as a bard I am usually too busy twisting songs, changing targets, etc. to be able to to type or chat. Plus if you're in EC it easy to miss OOC chat with all the auction messages.

You talk to friends, not with strangers. I'm always the first person to break the ice with anyone on this server... I've been here since inception and it boils down to people either want to talk or they don't.
When you start a conversation in a zone or in a pickup group, you're essentially making smalltalk at a party. Whether or not that smalltalk develops into actual conversation or friendship or a small group of friends is totally up to the situation. It simply can't happen every time.
Sometimes small talk falls flat, and that's okay. Most of the time, and I mean 99% of the time, people read what you say and respond to themselves and don't say anything. They just simply don't know how to respond, and that's fine.
The reason for this, is because the average person here is an antisocial weirdo that doesn't know how to navigate any kind of complex or uncomfortable social situation what so ever Dude, you're playing a 15 year old elf simulator. Just imagine the kind of person that gets interested in that. It's the exact kind of person who just types 'lol' or remains completely silent instead of answering extremely basic questions, for fear of being rejected. It's the type of person who simply can not process conversation, especially over text.

The population of P1999 is way more talkative and helpful than any other MMO community I've ever played in, even more than the original EQ IMO.

I, and those I associate with are quite social.

The red (pvp) server has server-wide /ooc. There's nearly always chatter in that channel during primetime hours. Come join our community! :)
