I'd like to point out that I have only recently joined the server, and the players have made me feel extremely welcome. I'm posting from a different account than my character's name as to not cause conflict.
I've been on Red for a few days, it's amazing, I love the PvP, the players, the feel of the game; it all feels great. However I have had a few technical issues along with several of my friends. When petitioned I was dealt with harshly told that it was not something I should petition about, and to take it to the technical discussion forums. Well, the GM named the bug, and then refused to provide any insight. (I used Google)
I understand that OOC is no longer a social Channel, but I'm sorry— The server pop is less than 500, and not being able to post in OOC makes the game far less entertaining unless you're in a large guild or always in a group.
My friend can't even use OOC anymore after being banned from it for having a conversation— not vulgarity, nothing bad, but a conversation while the server was slow.
After petitioning my issue, I responded with a short, single line of text to a post in OOC, and the GM immediately responded by warning me about how important it is to not be social in chat. (It took nearly half an hour to get a response for my petition)
So, sorry, I don't feel welcome here, not in the slightest— not because of the players, but because of the GM that seems to have it out for the server pop. I know it's against the rules now to post in OOC, but I'm new and the first time it happened I was dealt with just as harshly after stating that I was brand new to the server.
This is what I propose— Don't let OOC become a flamewar, actually monitor it if you're going to put a rule like that in place. That way we can still have a social experience in a game that relies on that. I will not name the GM, and I'm sure that they're doing their job, but you know who you are, as do many of the players on Red (I have talked to several players that are much more upset than I am). Please, take it down a notch, we aren't animals; stop trying to punish us for wanting human interaction.
Note: I know the rule was put in place because of people ABUSING the use of OOC, this does not apply to them. This post is for the players that have had their hands chopped off for saying hey to a friend.

There aren't enough guides. Judging from the 600+ applications I see it surely isn't from a lack of people willing to help.
OOC abuse is a problem. Severely limited OOC is an equally disturbing problem.
GET MORE GUIDES.

It's seriously a joke right now in ooc. You say one thing and Eunomia pops up outta nowhere. Yet 3-4 big pvp fights happening daily over the last week in kc and or over mobs and NO guides NO gms to be seen watching people on both sides training, people on both sides VIOLATING LNS, and some people doing some overrall shady shit that influences battles. Give us a global auction, let ooc be for actual OOC (social interaction), and for the love of god someone come watch some pvp or do something productive.

Guy posts in /ooc about MM pvp. I call him out on plugging to me yesterday. He replies with the usual why don't you come 1v1, so I take it to tells. Having been leveling, I ask if he is even in range and I get this:

At least in ooc someone can see people being a dick...in a tell, I'm probably just getting petitioned... The worst part is I'm 90% sure his main is with mine in GG based on their OOR healer when our group tried to take CE from them in MM yesterday.

Things like this should be addressed, not whether or not someone asked where to buy bags in Freeport.

I'm one of the players that got mildly annoyed when people were being dumb in ooc, and wished that the staff would monitor it to ban those abusing the privilege. Hardly ever spoke in ooc either, except to ask questions "What level does Ghoulbane proc?" and LFG. But now that I've seen what happens when the channel is moderated, I regret ever wishing for it. The game is a lot more fun when Eunomia isn't around. No offense meant to her, but this really sucks.
I didn't really want to join either Empire or Good Guys before this happened as I've always preferred smaller guilds to the huge ones. Now though, I'm trying to decide which is best for me just so I can watch some casual chatter while playing. If the staff lacks the resources to moderate the channel except to kill it, I hope they just stop moderating entirely. I'd much rather be subjected to the inane ramblings of psychopaths than lose this powerful and important social platform altogether.
Forcing this change as they are creates an unwanted barrier between those new to the server and the majority of the population (end game guilds). I've seen high levels come help out newbies being griefed by fungi twinks after it's asked for in ooc. Why would you want to take something like that away?

I understand the wanting to moderate the channel when it gets out of control, however this is taking it a step too far. We aren't allowed to be social in a channel designed for just that.
Reading through the other thread on this subject, I've seen things that really change my outlook on the GM. I thought they were just having a bad day, or just doing their job, but I can see from the screenshots from other posts that they really are just being a dick sometimes. It's like talking to an asshole cop, I'd rather shit glass than post in OOC now because I don't want to get bitched out after asking for some help.
The GM made it clear that they didn't wish to help me with my issue, and pointed me to players, so why even have them there in the first place? If they actually responded to the question that was posted in OOC like I expect a GUIDE would do instead of making us feel like we should just keep our mouths shut it would be different. If I'm directed to players for an answer, I'm going to ask players— and when I can't turn left in the game without seeing a purple screen, I'm going to ask OOC instead of waiting hours for a response on the forum.
Note: The GM referred to the bug BY NAME and then refused to answer my question. I later found on an old forum thread that it only required a restart of my client. Was it so hard for the GUIDE to pass that knowledge onto me before I had to drop group because of it. They didn't guide me toward anything, I typed the description in myself and found it a while later— sure it didn't take long, but I waited half an hour for the GM to respond, and then was instantly "dealt with" after responding to a post myself. In my opinion, something that prevents me from playing the game is more important that you being mad about someone congratulating another on a pk.
Make up your mind, do you want to help us, or are you just going to push issues under the rug?

Keep in mind that someone said once, that they would, and I am not quoting verbatim, burn red to the ground and salt the earth and that person us enforcing the rules. I agree to some extent that /ooc was a near constant stream of stupidity and techtosterone(copyright) but going rail to rail is not the answer.

There were some people that needed to be squelched. Loli graphically describing various sex scenarios for over 20 minutes comes to mind. Also people like Fell (Syft-X) ranting in ooc literally all day was stupid.
Some trash talk is always good fun, but there should be stated limits on trash talk/ranting/spamming/personal attacks that are enforced to prevent ooc from becomming a 24/7 trashcan. Current rules are hurting the server in a bad way, OOC is/was a great place for new players to communicate and for the community to get some laughs. There are enough non-shitty people on this server it wasnt always bad.
Abolish the current rule. IMO people should just turn on language filters, use ignore, and disable OOC if its such a problem but I guess that would be asking to much.

Ooc is now an excuse to ban players for minor offences while leaving other, serious issues, unaddressed.
It's divided into paragraphs, and articulated it in a way that even you could understand.

Well said. This situation could be improved with
Increase use of /ignore
Give more active staff privilege to OOC ban
Stickied explanation of how to turn off OOC in options menu
Implementing a separate global channel for /auction
Eunomia tried but the experiment was indeed a failure because Eunomia cant be there at all times nor waste time telling every offender... Eunomia needs the permission to channel ban is my number one suggestion...

I think its a little of column a and a lil of column b. its pretty obvious it has something to do with stupid/offensive people turning away new players, I mean dont you read the red forums and cringe? They do care about the box, blue & red, and dont want it to just go out of control I am sure (not that I think ooc was a problem, i hardly noticed it).
I also think that its a precursor to them shutting down global ooc all together as our population does continue to grow!
Keep in mind the sudden change came right about the same time they started clearing out Blue RnF.. its all connected, but not in a tinfoil hat way, in a its all the same staff and same boxes kinda way.

TBH I was a little turned away at first as there was a flame war going on the moment I joined the server, but now I know that they are (semi)decent people. The players on this server have made me feel welcome, where the guide turned me away. At least the players were cool the next day, the GM (maybe it's just their job to be bad-cop) was still a dick to my friends and made me feel unwelcome— going from the Sceencaps in the other thread, it seems to be a trend.
I realize that dealing with these retards day in and day out can be frustrating, I feel for you, but don't take out your anger on people just trying to be friendly.
Shit, the reason I stayed is because I figure you were just having a bad day (GM); I'm sure you're a decent person to get the guide position— I read the app. That and I want to dominate the PK scene with my sculpted muscles and huge penis.

The Guide, the one that's suppose to welcome you to the server, makes you want to log off and do other things rather than play the game. That shouldn't be how it works.
I read the thread voting the GM into their position, what happened? I know the playerbase wouldn't do that if the person was a complete a-hole. I'd really like some insight from the GM on this matter because it doesn't seem natural for them to just do a 180 like this.

I've honestly not had too many run ins with Eunomia, but the few times I've /petitioned for my corpse, or a bugged quest turn in, she responded within the hour. Which was very awesome! In all my time on Red, I've not seen many other GMs get to you quickly.
BUT! The OOC thing upsets me greatly. I LOVE the OOC chat that happens. Yes, I agree, sometimes it's vulgar, and it's not terribly family friendly. And yes, I do know that some people actually DO play this game who want a 'censored' style game, some, I understand, even play with filters on. More power to those people.
I didn't read through this whole thread, because I'm lazy, stoned, and don't want to read 4 pages of other people's bullshit (not saying that some of it isn't constructive, if not maybe [hopefully] all of it).
But I do agree that the limited OOC is a problem, especially coupled with the extremely zealous attitude that Eunomia seems to have about the policy. I liked the conversations, the chat, and I've laughed so hard at some of the stuff said in OOC that I damn near pissed myself. Because the community on Red, even with the vast majority of it being trolls, are good people, who just talk shit in OOC because they CAN. I know some people actually DO GET MAD, but that's their fucking problem. I talk shit in OOC because I can TAKE shit. Usually. I have been known to actually get irritated or upset. But hey, personal attacks on a person should stay out of OOC, if not the game and community entirely.
But I digress. This server's OOC chat can be both horrible, and incredible. And I think we should take the good withe the bad. In a sense I feel like my Red Norrathian freedoms are being stomped upon by the angry heel of Cazic-Thule, and that, in and of itself, is just wrong. Why not, if you're going to implement rules on OOC, let it be something more of an extension of the Play Nice Policy. If Your'e hostile, cursing, or fighting in OOC, then Yeah, you should take it to tells or whatever, but if you're just having a conversation, or maybe trying to make some people laugh, it shouldn't be punishable by 24 hour mute...

literally the entire server agrees with you. of all the problems with red, eunomia arbitrarily decided that people being social in ooc was what needed changing
the point was probably to make the server appear friendly to new people coming over from the daybreak server, but would you rather see someone being a dick in ooc, or have a snarky GM send you a passive-aggressive /tell saying you'll be banned if you ask about the paladin guild again

This is essentially the problem. We have a Guide that has expressed a true hatred for our server and the people that like to PvP within the server. I believe the words "burn the ground" were even used.
Let that sink in for a moment.
We need a partial GM that enjoys pvp and wants to see the red server succeed. Until we get one this is going to continue to be a massive problem. No long write ups neccesary. No deep discussion. Just a choice.
Do we want a guide that despises us? I sure dont.

There is so much wrong with this. Firstly, Eunomia would not let her feelings toward the server in general affect her decisions on a singular player level. It just wouldnt happen.
The server *had* a guide that fit the second paragraph's description, and because of the colostomy bag of a population hanging from his side, he quit.
Do you want a guide that despises you? That isnt the question to be asking. You should be asking is it worth having a guide that despises you. You can thank Eunomia for putting up with the server and be grateful that she takes the time to be on red, despite her feelings towards it, or you could wait for the 1 or 2 days a month Sirken is around doing in game petitions for a response.

You can thank Eunomia for putting up with the server and be grateful that she takes the time to be on red, despite her feelings towards it, or you could wait for the 1 or 2 days a month Sirken is around doing in game petitions for a response.
It would 100% be better to have 0 guides on red than to have a guide who doesn't know the PNP and cannot moderate pvp disputes. Not letting people be social in OOC is actively harmful to the server, especially to new players with questions.
being social in ooc is exactly what it should be used for, and for new players with questions.
i dont think the staff is suspending people asking how to work the orc lift in gfay.

I guess you haven't been on red when OOC was being actively moderated. They may not be getting suspended but they are certainly getting tells from Eunomia about not asking those kinds of things.

Hey Eunomia! Could you maybe tell us why you've been monitoring ooc so hard? Was this a recent decision made by the admins to curtail NSFW chat? The hate might quiet down a bit if we actually knew what was going on and why. As things are I'm feeling kinda left in the dark.
Let's try to foster some positive community/staff relations (or something), maybe :)
You are correct, I havnt been playing so I will defer to your experience on it. I have a hard time believing that is the case though.

Yeah, you really don't know what it's like. When Eunomia is on there is literally nothing said in ooc except WTB/WTS/WTT and LFG. Anything else is now against some unwritten rule. And we don't even know why :/

the only thing i can see is that DBG moderates their forums so harshly its unbelievable. They lock threads that don't pras how excellent they are. Must be part of the agreement to do more modding here.

I wouldn't thank someone that, if given enough power, and, in her own words stated she would "shut the red server down". That statement alone invalidates your entire argument. Clearly she WOULD let her own feelings pulsate through the screen if given the power.
Your delusional if you think that's good for the server or population in general. A GM shouldn't be saying those things especially with such a large influx of new players. Imagine reading some of the shit that she says being a new player. It's a joke.

And yeah, like. It kinda has felt like the sky is falling. Not because you're suspending people, but because general consensus is that you're effectively ending one of the most important social platforms we have. It's pretty obvious that your recent presence on the server is detrimental to our population. ooc is (was?) the best way for new players to be social and involve themselves in the community.
But maybe this is all a misunderstanding, and you're actually only wanting to end the awful ooc chatter while allowing normal chat. Players were reporting that you were telling them to stop talking even when they were just saying "pras" though, which is totally worrying. You probably can't tell us anything substantial for fun official reasons, but I'm sure you understand our frustration and can sympathize.

So I guess anything goes in RnF and anything thats spoken is hot air and not a real representation of your thoughts? I guess it's like the the Vegas of the forums. Except we can all read. Or most of us anyway.
I don't have a personal problem with you, Eunomia, but I still feel as if you despise the red server and the majority of its inhabitants. Feel free to correct me but this is the vibe that has been put out to all of us here enjoying the red server.
I'm not saying the sky is falling (this is a game afterall) but I strongly believe people shouldn't do things they hate just because they are obligated.

I am glad OOC chat is limited to LFG / WTB / WTS.
It sounds like to me the only thing being removed from OOC chat is nerd rage and the high musings of neckbeards that miss wow barrens chat. Personally, I think the server would be better if that shit is just kept to /guildchat or teamspeak.
Also I did see Eunomia in KC monitoring PVP between empire and Good Guys on Friday evening. So she is doing more than just monitoring /ooc.

Just the use of the word promotes the pvp environment. Empire guy dies, server reacts.
How often has it been said that the box needs an answer to the zerg? Little things like this boost morale and fuel competitiveness.
Would like a "pras" / "pras it" exception to the ooc changes, leave it in <3

I think getting rid of OOC was a troll by specific people who want to "ruin it" for everybody cause they suck and are losing.
Or then again, it could have been asked for by mature community members who are tired of seeing trash talk, bullying, vulgarities and toilet humor as opposed to genuine help, tips, and positive social interaction in /ooc.
I would suggest GMs allow /ooc for a month. If the red server can go a month without a single soul trash-talking, bullying, using toilet humor or vulgarities in /ooc, then by all means abolish the law.

It's bad enough that obvious racial flame bait is allowed on the forums. I'm glad that an attempt to clean up ooc is underway. In my opinion comments like the one I've quoted should earn lengthy forum account and game account bans for repeat offenders.

Disagree. Only thing wrong with the server is that there's a small population of perpetually offended and overly sensitive people who are being catered to instead of being told to harden up.
We're not here to nurture each other's emotional well-being, we're here to play the game and compete viciously, and to make friends and enemies along the way. If someone can't handle the fact that people aren't always going to be nice to them, they should log off and go watch My Little Pony.
This isn't just a Red99 problem, it's a problem with Western culture in general. We have an entire generation of people who have been given kid's gloves treatment their entire lives, and it's left them in such a fragile state that even the tiniest slight or offense is enough to shatter their precious Posey Princess egos.
Server needs more conflict, not less.
JMO.

I have to ask, why does /ooc need moederating in the first place when the user base is the best form of censorship through channel and language filters? If you don't want to read it, turn it off.
Seriously though, why is /ooc being censored in such a draconian way?

You're leaving out the part where you told me that '/petition is not for these types of issues, and that I should take it to Tech Discussion'
Sorry I don't screencap all my discussions, but I don't think it should be necessary when dealing with a GM.

I had a character banned from OOC, and not a word was said to me, in tells or otherwise.
...Personally... I think this whole thing has been one big cluster fuck. OOC is for Out of character topics! And /auction should just be made global, so we can have /auction for WTS/WTB/WTT... and people can still look in OOC for LFG.
Also, I've seen threats in OOC from Eunomia to shut down red in the past, and personally it makes me (someone who's played on this server for a few years now), just want to quit this shit. But then I think about it, and I'm like "Naw... Eunomia doesn't have that power." But still. the threats in OOC about OOC is getting old. Let OOC go back to what it was, and make /auction GLOBAL, so people don't have to bitch about their huge ass WTS lists (Seriously, wanna talk spam? People who post 4 paragraph WTS messages in OOC..?) not getting seen, or whatever the fuck.
OOC is for Flames and Rants, Out of Character discussions (I was banned for joining a discussions that was already happening), and other such things.
