My son made a DE SK and his first question was "How to I get armor?". I have no answer for him and blacksmithing is too pricy for a new player without coins.
On my iksar it's not a problem we have curscale quest. With my dwarf we also have a quest for tattered armor. What do Dark elves get to help them gear up? What's their options?
Thanks for your time!

as far as i know, the only armor quests in neriak were the class specific ones you got from the guild leaders, and that was added later :/
i'd kill skellies to at least get some cloth for now, and sell those bone chips/ HQ bear pelts/ spiderling silks in EC to save up for some banded. if you can find a smith, a set of banded runs somewhere around 1pp/ac which isnt terrible. banded will last you for a while, too, by which time you'll probably have enough plat saved up to start buying better pieces.

Armor Class cap is so low at low levels that you really don't need fancy armor. Just get the cheapest you can afford and take your lumps like everybody else.

Save ruined wolf pelts and combine with patterns in a loom or sewing kit.
Costs about 2 gold to make, only requires like 26 skill to trivial. Is generally 1-2 AC better than cloth per slot.
You can use ruined cats too but the armour weights more that way.
Edit: his first priority should be saving for an OP weapon imo. As previous poster says low level AC caps are low.

Yeah we know about tailoring, I was just a bit surprised that other races gets it easier for starting armor (like not having to spend money, just do a turn in). I did not know about AC caps though, thanks for the info.
I guess I'll have to initiate him to selling stuff in EC lol.

Yeah no GOOD Armor with a Trade skill of 15 to make any gear worth bothering to have for a Melee. :p But we ALL had to start somewhere.
But I think everyone on here ought to do more Tradeskills and Quests. Pretty much what EQ is really all about, not just zooming to level 60 fast as you can being Pled. Its not as fun as you think at the top. When Velious EVER comes out well maybe 60 will help.

Good thing we care not about leveling fast, we just have fun that's about it.

what? no races have that. every newbie "armor set" quest you are thinking about is not classic and therefore not implemented.

I think he is thinking of curscale armour quest and kaladim bone chips/orc loot quests, rather than the unclassic mega-armour-quests.

I created a DE SK (The most awesome looking and immersive class/race combo in the game btw) a few days ago, and for about 70-80pp I was able to get him an almost full set of small vendor bought bronze (helm, arms, bracer, chest and legs), it would be even cheaper to buy from other players. That is if you have some coin to spare him?

Buying a full set of Banded armor should be very cheap. As in 1pp per AC. That will last you a good long while, as at that point, other things are more important than AC.
And a full set of banded looks pretty good on a DE. I had it at one time, long ago.

Whats more important than AC? A good ratio weapon to help bring the xp in?
Or are you saying banded AC is in excess of what is required at low level?

Having a decent weapon I think will help you more than AC very early on actually.
But a full set of banded armor could list a non twinked, just starting out character from level 1 to prolly into your 30's before I would start seeking gear with stats on it.
