View Full Version : Tell me a story about Velious..

Never really experienced it on live (I was still in my 30s messing around as a ranger).

I guess I'm most curious about the ranking of raid targets. What is the strongest mob other than sleeper? what has best loot table? A top 10 most powerful list would be interesting on this dreary work Monday.

By zone, not really in order top to bottom.

Kael - Avatar of War
ToV - Lord Vyemm or Aaryonar probably
ST - Hraashna if I remember right
Icewell - Dain Frostreaver IV
Plane of Growth - Tunare
DN - Zlandicar
Skyshrine - Yelinak
Outdoor/Other - Sontalak, CT (post revamp)

That's more difficulty than loot. CT and Vulak drop the best items pretty much.

Top of my head, some may be a little off it's been a while. :)

Once I was certain which way lead to Iceclad, I counted off my paces. The ocean appeared at eight. I cupped my hands to drink. The water made my belly cramp, but cramps were easier to bear than thirst.

Sunset found me squatting in the grass, groaning. Every stool was looser than the one before, and smelled fouler. By the time the moon came up I was shitting brown water. The more I drank, the more I shat, but the more I shat, the thirstier I grew, and my thirst sent me crawling to the ocean to suck up more water. When I closed my eyes at last, I did not know whether I would be strong enough to open them again

Iceclad blood, it’s only my Iceclad blood, but I did not remember ever having
such a heavy flow. Could it be the water? If it was the water, I was doomed. I had to drink or die of thirst waiting for the boat that would never show in the Desert of Ro.

That's a story right?

Vyemm is a monster (pre-dragon bane for sure), Aary is easy if you don't have derps

Doze lewt is insane, tears should be banked until true Velium champions emerge (aint my call so who knows)

Tunare is arguably not tuned right here but I never fought that npc in era (Velious)... on beta she seemed pretty freaking insane to me just watching the tanks' HP and observing how close those heals really were hitting

Most of these fights are heavily decided by the # of 255 str barb rogues railing them (put dat in your "obvious shit" play book)

You really gotta brush up your CH/raid heal/self dispel game for Hrash

Yeah there's easy ways to fuck up Aary tho (and we almost made that mistake on the beta kill... its not just dont derp an aoe)

Will reserve that for innersanctum discussions :)

I think the main difference between xpacs is Kunark is all about pretty much ignoring fight mechanics and blasting the mobs pussy off, and Velious is all about dealing with the mechanics.

Hope they keep the beta server up so the JV squads can practice and contest, otherwise even if the 2nd/3rd tier guilds get a shot they are just going to wipe even with a large enough raid force.

aaryonar was rough during classic, and all of the dragons after him were a joke up until vulak. Different server not exactly the same.

Kergan

Vyemm was always harder than Vulak. Vulak is technically the zone boss but was pretty easy in comparison to some of the other dragons.

Vulak was a cakewalk. He was like the giant loot pinata at the end of a NTov clear.

Outside of the mobs themselves, here were the true most difficult parts of Velious:

-pulling Dain correctly
-getting 40+ raid force across Siren's Grotto
-Pulling the '3 dragon split' in NTov prior to Holgresh beads
-the run to Yelinak (unless you had a COH bot parked)
-camping Stormfeather

Ventani is gore on steroids , p tough imo. Vyemm is tough as fuck too.

Isnt Vulak also slowable?

Hah, good list. I wonder if the camping in the wall trick will work here, probably not. For the first few weeks people should carry a junk item in an inventory slot so they can leave it on their corpses. You'll be able to follow the trail of bodies from CS zoneline all the way to WW. :)

I'm sure they'll be about 10 COH bots positioned by Yelinak here, the benefit of 2+ years of Kunark. Great place to farm easy YT on OOM naked mages!

Dain pull is gonna be fun. Nothing like a zone you can get faction in where 1 person can completely hose a pull in the face of an 80 man raid force.

And then Daenerys rode Kerafyrm to face down a horde of fire giants.

Obviously it should be used to throw people into the secret Mistmoore tower and down into the hidden underground lake where three-way battle occurs between Mayong, Kraken and Megladon.

I was thinking it could be used to weaponize gnomes when combined with iron scroll of war, earring of displacement, oil of fennin ro, etc.

Rastignac
05-18-2015, 03:27 PM
Haha.

So how long does the gnasher quest stay up? Does it just disappear then? Or just one component stops dropping?

I know I have snowball in hell chance of getting it but a guy can try.

Kergan
05-18-2015, 03:30 PM
The planks stopped appearing as ground spawns at some point. The rest of the quest stayed intact, so as long as you grab a plank you'll get one eventually. Odds are it'll be MQable too so I'm sure people will be selling horded planks for years to come.

Rastignac
05-18-2015, 03:32 PM
hah! there's a compelling democracy to that.

I bet that will be an interesting zone when Velious launches. Kill anyone snooping around in circles.

heard the BFG will not work as originally designed with this client. Something about how they took it out of live because of the mechanics, and the titanium client came after that change, so on this version of EQ the BFG will never work like it did on live. ( it wont even have a knock back effect)

Still interested in the melee crit potential for rangers though.

I remember some of the raids on live for velious era just before luclin hit, Yelinak was stupid as hell, very long and annoying but seeing 30+ mod rods in a line was pretty funny. Necros twitch bitches all day long. I think I only ever did a full clear of NToV 3-4 times before luclin(and by full i mean did aary once). Vyemm was still a pain in the ass.

80+ people on AoW raids, just doing the statue/idol whatever leading up to him was a pain. 20 cleric CH chains in a row + misc healers off beat just in case. I do miss my scepter of destruction and flayed barb legs =( I can't wait to see some SoD's on this server let alone gnome masks.

As far as this how this server will go, I don't really know. I did some beta raids during forced, we killed 2 of 4 sleepers with 60-70 person zerg ide say 98% of the people were kunark BIS copy overs. Almost all were easy except there was one dragon that was like gore + hosh mixed, silence AE with a huge dot. Wiped very quickly, multiple times to him after zerging the first ones down relatively easy. I want to say it was Ventani but I don't know, maybe the hraashna one I forget? I have a screenshot somewhere ill dig up. but again i mean obviously when velious hits you wont have a full raid force with epics/bis kunark gear for an entire raid with crown of riles and such.

Primal should be fun stuff though. Pras 2 thy first monk to get shroud of longevity, for his name shall 4ever be pictured in the wiki. Hopefully he gets a 2h primal bat and wears both at same time for da screenshot tho, looks badass.

What Rastignac said:

The knockback was a pretty big one, and you could time it right so you could hit someone with like 5 at once from 5 different people and they would fly about 200 mph halfway across the zone.
