View Full Version : Is the Population Booming Now?

Hey all, this is my first day back in the world of Everquest. I played between release and right after Velious came out, so it's been some time. Looking around this forum, it seems like there are a lot of people coming back to play. Is this normal or is there a population boom going on right now?

So, I was thinking about playing an Iksar Shadowknight, Human Monk, or Dark Elf Cleric. Of course, I've only been thinking about this for the past hour since I became aware of this site. I remember that grouping could sometimes be a drag for over-populated classes, is that still true for these three?

I think it is safe to say we are booming right now, what with the agreement with DBG.

edit - and with Velious dropping soon

Yep the free advertising that the publicity from the Daybreak agreement brought to P99 is a big part of it. Also by having an official agreement with the EQ devs/owners adds legitimacy to the shadowy world of emulated servers.

If we could only get a client download that was considered 100% legit.

The population is definitely on the rise (has been for a while really). But to answer your other question, I don't think you'll have trouble finding a group as any of those classes. Cleric would probably get you a group the fastest, but if you do a good job pulling as a monk or tanking as an SK, groups will need and want you. The last two also come with the side benefit of being able to solo pretty well when grouping just isn't happening.

Watch it tank out when Ragefire Progression server goes live

A little over a year ago, during peak weekend hours, the pop would top 1k. It would be a "hey look, we're over 1k" thing. But normal weekday prime time population was <1k.

Then it started. The Growing. AND IT IS NOT STOPPING.

The population is soaring. We are getting close to having ~1k 24/7. That is insane growth.

Boy oh boy when this population boom hits the raid scene.......... do not say you haven't been warned, kiddies. Don't make me link to one of my first posts back when i found the server...

P99 has a better pop than some p2play MMO servers. not the games as a whole but individual servers. gfay and ec are very busy at peak hours.

Dropping by to say hi.

Just discovered about this due to the new server announcement and now I so need to try it. I guess many people are experiencing the same feeling.
Left the game some time after the Velious expansion launched, so it's almost like picking up where I left :)

I just hope that the game is as good as nostalgia makes me remember it...

Might lose some for the first week, all those classic things we're used to won't be there... my opinion? The server won't be a big success and people will come here instead.

Ragefire will be fun for a week or two then you will have so many max level characters it will lose its luster, just like the previous progression servers.

There is nothing classic about Ragefire...monk fists will do more damage than epic weapons and mage pets will be the best tanks besides monks...and the XP gain will be so fast you will see max level characters within a few days of launch.

If you want to play an underpopulated class try:

Ranger
Enchanter (odd for some reason, I don't see a lot of upper tier chanters)
Shadow Knight
Bard

There will be like 10 people leave. Ragefire is a total joke compared to this, not counting you will HAVE to pay for it.

Who wants to play a game that is more Luclin than anything, and has NOTHING to do with being classic other than it will be locked at classic zones for like 2 weeks before the dumb asses vote to have Kunark opened then.

It will be the same old stupidity they have done for 4 or 5 progressions servers before it. Daybreak, aka Sony has NO clue. Their track record totally sucks.

This will be our first time playing on a SOE/DB progression server and I hope it is better than the previous versions, if not we will be back for the velious launch in Aug.

Good to know! An enchanter was my main "back in the day" from launch through velious. Looks like this is a good time to rejoin the game, I was hoping there'd be other newbies to play with!

Really? Bards and Enchanters don't have a high number of people playing them? That seems really odd to me as I remember both of them being fantastic.

I see tons of enchanters and bards. Just most of them solo.

You can't swing a dead ranger around here without hitting 20 enchanters, 20 bards, and 35 shamans

Don't forget the ever popular monk twinks.

The saving grace for overpopulated monk twinks is that you can still get groups. Most groups in most zones can easily handle 3-4 monks filling DPS/puller/tank slots.

*sigh* What can't a monk do? My main 'back in the day' was a monk and I was really looking forward to playing one again, but they seem like a completely overpopulated class. For some reason, that makes me not want to play them as much.

All classes are "overpopulated" less Paladins, Wizards, and Rangers.

Play what you want

Could be the reason I never see them as I usually get into groups. :D
