So I'm not exactly a Techie, but I understand with this limited IP situation for accounts... are we at least able to login from multiple locations/computers?

Say one day I'm playing on my desktop...

Will I still be able to later log on to my laptop at home / elsewhere or do I need to apply for that IP exemption ?

Sorry, probably dumb question, but just wanted to cover my bases.

Thank you..

Didn't want to get banned ... as I read that was what happens with the IP thing.

1. IP addresses usually have nothing to do with the computer you're using. IPs belong to the server to which you connect to the internet (like from your ISP).

2. The IP limit for Project 1999 only applies to simultaneous usage. Don't be logging on multiple computers to the same server at the same time.

3. Generally, if your account is logged in, you will simply be blocked if another simultaneous login is attempted (you'll get a popup that says your IP is temporarily blocked).

4. Not a dumb question.

IOW, install the game on as many computers as you like; but only play one at a time.

Thank you for clearing that up for me :) Just wanted to be safe, and enjoy playing old EQ again.

Come on OP, play along.

Don't think about playing 2 accounts yourself, you're going to get caught and suspended or banned. It's not worth it, even if you're just logging the second one in to buff the first one.

The IP exemption is for two people playing from the same internet connection. If one is playing from work or another house then it's business as usual, no exemption needed.

You're totally fine to log in from different places in the same day.

Lol, I have no intention of playing multiple accounts. I just have a laptop in case I don't want to sit at my desktop. Just an innocent inquiry, I enjoy this Project 1999 thing, and have no intention of looking for "loopholes." I just want to it the right way. Hence the post.

So I just made the transition from my laptop to a desktop PC and didn't have any major issues. Yes my desktop purchase was contingent upon me getting EQ to work. I have a problem.

As long as you don't make a 2nd account you will be fine. Besides boxing is so unnecessary here. The community is fucking great. Join red.

Yea for sure, overcrowded yet friendly community is better than sparse population ;) I'll admit I've never tried a pvp server before...

red is a much better atmosphere if you are just starting out no point in playing on blue.

How so? I figured on top of trying to level / group, I'd have to deal with ganking / twinks as other threads have mentioned?

I can see why this rule is there, to prevent people from quad boxing and generally making every spawn camp, KS infested sewage.

The bad thing tho is that my brother and I, who shares the same inet connection cant play together :\

Well you have to understand that they need to be within your PVP range. So there are some people the de-level and grief other players. You'll find this in popular zones like Crushbone and HHK and MM and Unrest and the like. Even things like this are fairly rare.

I rolled Iksar and haven't been PKed one time. I've even challenge people to come PK me that talk shit in OOC and they won't. Kunark is too far to maybe get wrecked by a group. They have no idea if your alone or with a bunch of people.

The major benefit is that popular camps aren't overcrowded and they remain very fun to camp. I started with nothing and asked for nothing on Red but had several people give me plat and one guy gave me a full suit of banded armor which I'm now turning into scaled mystic armor. I'm sure this happens on Blue but frankly that server is overcrowded and the likelihood you run into a dickhead on Blue is far greater.

Long live red99.

you can have as many accounts as you want. You just cant have more then 1 logged on at any given time.

No sure I understand that but why even run the risk? There is literally no point to having a second account unless your doing 1 of 2 things:

Either
a) your boxing

Or

b) you have 8 characters and can't be bothered to delete a single one of them.

Let's be real, there's no point in having a second account unless I am missing something glaringly obvious.

Plenty of reasons to have more then 1 account. You acquired the account while account trading was legal. If you ever get suspended or banned for something you have other accounts to play. If you have friends or family you trust to play your accounts(not against the rules but you are responsible for what happens on the account while others are playing it). Or as you put it you have more then 8 characters. Personally i have 16 toons.

I did read a bit on the red forums... so did I read that correctly though? You could be playing on red and blue at the same time?

Correct you can play on red and blue at same time. 1 account per. The account can be the same for red and blue though.

Yeah man that's totally fine. Like he said above there are some obscure reasons to have more than one account but frankly most people don't want or expect to be banned so they just have a single account.

But do whatever fits your play style man. And join Red. ;)

Very cool, tempted to just to get a taste of that exp bonus. Yea I've already started on blue, and so far the community seems good. But if it's just as good / better at red, why not taste both flavors. I appreciate all the info / input for a returning noobie.

Thanks

Yeah grouping on Red is fairly addicting and people do t discriminate on your class because there isn't a penalty for group makeup.

Red ftw! Send tell to Rodarin if you join Red. I'm an Iksar Shammy and will help you start off. On vacation this weekend but will be back Tuesday.

Honestly if you want to enjoy P99 just stay off the forums. Dont bother coming here unless you have a problem. You will keep those rose colored glasses on and enjoy yourself :)

the best thing about red, if you have limited play time due to RL obligations, you don't have to waste time waiting in line for a camp. PvP will happen, adrenaline will flow, excitement is yours to be had. Just install TS and find a crew. Voice communications are a must on red, because as you imagine, it's hard to type and fight another player effectively.
