Hi there, im thinking of doing an Iksar Shammy but have a few questions.
Do i really need JBB?
Is slam needed at all for 60 solo?
How big is the Iksar bonus here? is it 40 - 45 AC bonus like on live?

JBB is the best shaman item aside from Epic/Fungi Tunic.
I had a 65 Iksar Shaman on live, and 60 Ogre Shaman on another EQEmu and P99.
I'd strongly advise going Ogre or Troll.

Iksar AC bonus is dependent on how they implement it here. It also can't be measured in pure AC - it is measured in parses of damage taken.
On live, it was pretty massive, leading to rerolls and outcries and so forth, as is well documented. It was due to two factors mainly imo: The relatively low 289(?) worn AC cap in Velious, and the fact that fights were MUCH longer, making the bonus really add up. On here, only Monks have an even playing field armor wise currently and it is a substantial improvement, there are parses if you search the forums. There's no way to say how big of a difference it'll be here in Velious.
Slam stops interrupting mobs beyond a certain level. I think it's 50. Interrupting mobs in general becomes harder. Anything "hard" in Velious isn't affected by Slam, far as I recall. It'd trivialize things too much. However, this is not live.
Someone said JBB is the second most important shaman... personally, I'd take Puppet Strings. In Velious you can Canni4 4+ times in the time you can channel JBB. That is at least 388 mana.
Personally I'd recommend directly asking the better shamans their opinions and going from there.

unless you know you're going to hit max level and do all that highlevel shit (good luck raiding without being in TMO) you'd be better off picking what you prefer to play over minmax bullshit

The correct answer is:
1. Roll Iksar
2. Prey to god you get a Dark Elf mask some how
3. Raid hardcore and let your IRL suffer, so that you can get a Robe of the Azure Sky (http://wiki.project1999.com/Robe_of_the_Azure_Sky)
4. ????
5. YOU ARE THE COOLEST SHAMAN ON BLUE

Can't really argue with this honestly.

Why Ogre? thought bashes only landed once every 32 sec on a slowed mob?

Getting that mob slowed..is easier with frontal stun immunity

All this is true but if you are a guised shaman with an azure sky robe, the un slowed mob actually gets onto its knees and asks if it can blow you.

Clark and Darkatar have VERY good points. Velious fights will last minutes, not seconds like it does now.
Mine is a Barb, but in the long run in Velious, a Ogre is going to be ahead, I don't give a crap what anyone says. They will be top dog with Stun Immunity, plain and simple. Both with extra hits on the mobs, and with spell casting also. It WILL make a difference.
I know we are talking min, max crap here, but very few people on this server are noobs to EQ. So we all, for the most part, are into min, max or we sure as hell would not yet be on here. Lets not bullshit it. :p Ogre IS the way to go like it or not. :p

Just play what you don't hate looking at every day. I'm a troll because I like trolls. Ogres are the best, but for 99% of people that is never going to make a material difference.
I use my JBB A LOT. I don't know that I would say it's the second or third best shaman item in the game.... but it's handy.... or wristy as the case may be ;)

If you hate other people, even the people on your guild; roll Ogre so that you can solo in velious and never play with anyone in a multiplayer game.

[QUOTE]
Played on Live during the Classic/Kunark/Velious era. I had all 3 of those items along with Malo, Torpor and Slow. That combination of items and spells made the shaman so powerful. Mana free nuke and mana free dot all day long. Only problem with Winters Roar on the JBB is it breaks root most of the time and doesn't work too well in Velious since most things were cold resistant. But with that combo, you could solo things most people need a group for.

<Frontal Stun Immunity> is the all-ogre guild waiting to happen.
