Just wondering when P99 will open maps on the servers if ever?

Never. Maps just block the view anyway.

Use eq atlas its classic.

P99 = classic, maps != classic.

Plus everyone and their brother already has a gigantic monitor now, so the whole point of needing an in-game map is gone. Just put the map up in another window or on another monitor and you're set.

Use eq atlas its classic.

I'd recommend the wiki over EQ Atlas: same maps (I think they stole them from EQAtlas), but without any non-classic stuff.

You could print them out.

Bottom line, though, is navigation and travel will not get easier on this server.

It pulls up a map of the zone youre in and if you have /loc bound to movement keys then it will keep your location plotted on the map. I know most zones well but its helpful in zones like droga etc so i dont get lost

There used to be maps on here a couple of years ago just like there was a Compass, didn't have to sit to camp, could see what level mobs were, like DB, Red etc. when you targeted them, heck there were even Target Rings on here for a bit, etc., etc. All got nerfed, not "Classic" lol. Tons more stuff that has been nerfed.

So don't Ever hold your breath of those things coming back. :p

Back in the day when the maps were first being published I printed them all out and put them in plastic sleeves in a ring binder which I still have and use. Although, now I do find that I use the second monitor for the Wiki maps more and more.

After a while you memorize the zone layouts. Most zones are a square anyway.

You really need to work on your immersion, man. It's weak.

Bah. It's completely immersive to be walking along with your nose in a map and stumble into a giant.

If anyone's immersion is so easily ruined, it is weak.

I found its funny that original EQ didn't had maps but it had /loc which gave you PRECISE geo coordinates.
So apparently you not suppose to know which part of Karana you in even approximately in (south, west, north), but you can instantly obtain your perfect Geo-location by some sort of magical satellite...

Honestly, I prefer Baldurs Gate/ WoW style map - you can see where approximately you are (with unexplored locations greyed out) (without any map ad dons installed obviously)

Do you not own a smart phone? Keep that thing handy and look up maps with it. If you don't have one you're closer to classic times than most! The binder of printed maps is probably your best bet in that case, that's how I did it back in the day too.

HA! I remember having a binder of maps back in the day. I used the "new" laser printer at work at the time.

Yeah everyone in EQ has a GPS implant that allows them to see their coordinates but can't figure out how to draw a map as they travel lol.

I always found to lack of maps to be something that takes away from the immersion. I say put the map window back in but find some way to force us to use to to create our own maps. Both more immersive and more realistic.

Big thing in this game, the hell with maps! Learn how to do loc. It will save your ass a LOT more than knowing maps.

VERY few people are worth a crap knowing how loc really works.

People are not going to tell you in a zone about maps, they are going to give you a loc. Learn how to do it. :o

Was goofing around on EQLive server the other day, trying to finish up my cleric alt epic in Skyfire killing trash when Fabled Talendor smoked my group. Had everyone /consent my main to drag the corpses to zone for rezzes.

Was worried it was going to take forever to find the corpses since I didn't /loc before dying. I guess because I had consent for the corpses they showed up as green X's on my map. I had to laugh. That's how far from classic the live servers are now.

I also have a binder somewhere of all my old EQ maps with zone loc coords and all that. To me that was part of the classic experience.

Right. Cuz looking off screen is immersive.:rolleyes:

There are good arguments against maps, but "immersion" ain't even close to being one of them.

All this map talk reminds me of my highschool computer class. It was basically "look at everquest stuff for an hour" class.

I can't condone this. Candles are a fire hazard.

Boys can't read them either. Kids these days just use their smartphones. =\

My favorite maps here (https://youtu.be/oIIxlgcuQRU?t=30s).

Always been partial to Ted Leo's Since You Been Gone/Maps mishmash. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DBr5FPIL8UU).

I threw away my binder full of EQDiva/Everlore print-outs when I moved about three years ago. Terrible decision. Maps, spell lists and locations, epic guides... Rip in peace.

Yeah with all the connoisseurs of immersion around here you would think they would understand that alt tabbing or looking at a printed map is actually the opposite of immersion.

Different strokes for different folks. Personally I just reference them on a second monitor if I should ever need them, that's once in a blue moon though. At this point I know that shit like the back of my hand. Regardless though, I mean it really does make sense that someone can be more immersed by going to a binder of printed maps or hand drawn maps. I don't get the argument for having to look off screen taking you out of your immersion. I think the immersion most people are referencing here is getting back into that feeling of nostalgia not necessarily the immersion of being in the world itself.

Yeah I don't really think that's what people mean when they talk immersion as it relates to this game, there's another thread on the front page now full of immersion stories and nobody is taking about being immersed in nostalgia, they are saying the exact opposite actually.

I get what you are saying, but I'm going with myriverse on this one

I'm got im immersed in DnD by looking at pages and pages of shit in like 20 different books. Alt tabbing into maps is just like that! Broken ugly CLASSIC EQ
