So this is a level 14 druid spell but I get it at 29. Is there much use for it? If so, where?

I've never played a shaman, but my assumption is it gives you a combat pet? Try it on a woodlands critter and see if you can lead it into battle.

Oh, yeah it's a charm. I'm just not sure where I can use it that would be worthwhile at 29.

I dont recall it being of much help.....Charm up to level 24....can try lookin thruogh the databases to see which animals this includes.
The charm pet works like a dot, it wont tank well, something else has to take agro from the exp mob. Talk to drus about charm kiting etc.
You can try using it with flash of light spell.....reverse charm kiting, its very faffy tho!

the lvl 34 version is bit better.

You can mess about with BA, but it has no real use, sadly....apart from making you glad you get a proper pet at 34+

Its kinda fun wandering about in nuub zones with an `animal pet` to impress the younguns.

(Not sure if this works in conjunction with the reclaim energy mage quest item....highly doubt it....as these arent summoned entities.)

try charming crocs in upper guk with it...debuff them before you charm.

ok charm animals (level 34 spell) says charm up to level 33 on the wiki

might be good trying that shit once you're several levels higher than 34 (so a ~33 mob won't be breaking charm super fast)

does charisma help shaman charm ?

he charm spells are good for a few levels when you get them. You don't want to be charming things that are too high level. Charm duration depends on resists (enchanter charms also have a charisma check component, but I've read these don't apply to the animal/undead lines). As I'm sure you know lower level mobs are less likely to resist your spells than higher level ones.

For charm to be worthwhile you don't want a high level animal breaking prematurely and beating you up!

It's basically a novelty spell. It might be good for a few levels as JimJam said, but it's in a very select area that people rarely exp. It will not help you later on, your summoned pet will be higher level than anything you can charm not long after you get the charm spell.

I have NEVER used it. It is a VERY short lived spell for any use. But what the heck try it for a few levels, get you used to how to play your Dog when you get it at 34. :p

I have no proof or calcs about these charms vs enchanter charms, but my RL friend created a druid and his CHA is 45.... These charms (befriend animal, beguile plants) im guessing use a different calc because his charms last quite a long time. Of course the mobs he is charming are lower level which is what I suspect to be the major player in these charm calcs and CHA does not play a role (I could be way off on this tho).

You might have some success using this spell in the Karanas where animals are plentiful and could be of use. FYI - Insects are NOT animals.

Mostly tho other are spot on, its not really a shaman forte so to speak and your summoned pet later will be a much better companion.

I play an enchanter and there is nothing like having a charmed pet turn on you at the worst possible time... distance and run speed are your friend if you plan to play with charm.

No, nor druid or necro. And the way the checks work on enchanters, it is the last thing checked and not a very large factor in duration. Very important for mez and lull though.

sabertooth tigress is a lvl 33ish mob you can charm in OT, might be very handy there as they do nice damage to pretty much all OT trash when hasted. You may even wanna pair with a druid (for 11 minute snare they get at lvl29) and destroy everything around SF ramp there.

Oh i recall from charming there with my druid, a few of them might be bit higher in lvl and your charm wont land, just try on another one.

LOIO has xp at 24 and has a wide spread of animal levels.

The Sabertooth tigers in the courier area are blue to 24.

It's been a long time since I was level 29, but I do remember using it somewhere in the Karanas while killing. I'm not sure what I was doing was worth it. but undo remember using it

I recall using it at around level 30 as an iksar sham doing some quest in swamp of no hope. After I got my drops I just stayed there cuz the xp was solid. I don't recall ever using it after 34 when you get the dog, aside from bugging low Lvl shit to pwn nubs as mentioned above.

With the level 34 version I charmed snakes in Paw with my chanter friend for a while. Probably not the fastest exp but it was fun.

Go to Lake of Ill Omen and charm a sabertooth Grimalkin, use it to brutalize the sarnak fort for a couple levels til they all LB.

With the 34 version you used to be able to charm a rhino or sabertooth tigress in OT and use it for DPS in groups, but nobody does OT anymore because bards
