View Full Version : Make Your Own Hybrid

Warrior + Necromancer = Shadowknight
Warrior + Cleric = Paladin
Warrior + Druid = Ranger
My point is this: Hybrid classes are neat. But we have only three! Three hybrids ain't enough to put food on the table.
Let's smash together some already existing classes to make more hybrids! Two, three, four, all of them, it don't matter.
I had the idea of a rogue/enchanter combination based on DragonQuest IX's Armamentalists. They'd backstab almost as well as rogues, can sneak and hide just as well as rogues, and can use enchanter spells (duh), but they'd be limited to mail armor, do a bit less damage than pure rogues, and can't mez as well or as often due to a smaller mana pool and not as many spell choices. I got the idea after watching an enchanter groupmate only using mesmerize and meleeing things instead of meditating.

We had beastlords for Luclin, part monk, part shaman... all cop.
I thought hard for about 5 minutes but couldn't think of something that's believable in the EQ world.
Necromancer/bard maybe? Venturing into EQ2 territory there.

I have been running the numbers and I think I've found a way to hybridize hybrids. Ranger/SK.
SK/Bard.
SK....PALADIN!!!

A caster/monk hybrid that uses 2hb and has a bunch of quick cast spells that are mainly AoE orientated... or did I invent bard (which I feel rogue/enc pretty much is as well).
Sidenote: I'd love berserker to be added after velious!

In some ways, Bard is kind of a hybrid rogue/enchanter (although in actual play it doesn't really play like either class).

Anyone here ever play Age of Conan? Though I never made one myself, I was always fascinated with the Herald of Xotli class. Essentially a warrior/necro, but would only use 2 handed weapons, and wore cloth armor. Extreme offense, but little defense. You also had an ability that transformed you into a demon you could use once a day that had all kinds of bonuses, but also had a lich effect on yourself like EQ necros illusions do.

Shaman Rogue - Saboteur
Bard Warrior - Skald
Wizard Ranger - Elemental Archer
Edit: These are fun!
Enchanter Mage - Augmentor
Enchanter Wizard - Incantrix (Incantar)
Enchanter Necromancer - Animist
Rogue Necromancer - Night Shade
Rogue Enchanter - Quicksilver
Druid Cleric - Augor
Bard Wizard - Planeswalker

Yep, HoX was quite a unique and enjoyable class - one of my favorites to play in PVE (animations were a bit slow and predictable for pvp).
Some kind of Wizard+melee combo could be pretty neat here. No utility, just nukes and melee DPS.

What about a class that imbues their weapons with different procs. That would be pretty cool.

mage-warrior
- hybrid
- summons own temporary weapons
- can summon arrows that proc a mage pet that has 1 hp and attacks target (like mistwalker)
- can only use robes/cloth
- any mage playable race can be one
- has bolts/nukes that are much weaker than mages of an equal level
im a genius

Rogues already have that to some degree, but it's a huge pain to level and can be expensive to use in classic EQ. It gets much more interesting and accessible in later expansions.

bard/chanter. i call him cock-block
Mage/Rogue.
Sorta like a beastlord, but with cloth armor and (watered down)backstabs and low level nukes.
Pet tanks, Hybrid backstabs/melees. Aggro management becomes key. Maybe give them FD to be super OP :P
Earth pet and Fire pet maybe? Gives a weird either/or kind of setup.
Sounds cool to me. :D

Friar
Monk/Cleric
2hb would be primary weapon skill
Would be based around having a line of spells that would give a weapon proc of a heal on yourself/group in the form of HoT's.
Could be an avoidance based tank but primarily DPS (much like the monk)
Dark Age of Camelot had a class like this and it was crazy fun.
Remove all hybrids! Back to basics, purity of essence, and all that crap. :) Would possibly kill the forums tho, no bards for everybody to bitch about, no rangers/paladins/sks bitching about anti-hybrid discrimination, no gnomes & halflings whining because they can't be hybrids like all the cool races, ... what would we talk about?

Class: Martyr
Races: Human, Half Elf, Iksar, Erudite
Deities: All
Armor: Leather/Chain (ranger type gear)
Weapons: 2hb, Piercing, 1hb
Mana or Stamina: Both
Stat Focus: Int and Sta
Staple Abilities:
- Feign Death (spell)
- Dual Wield
- Double Attack
- Skull Crack line (costs mana) – Frontal “flying kick” type ability, meaning immense damage useable a few times during a fight.
Major purpose(s):
- Uses mana to infuse weapon with: Hardening (physical damage) or Power (direct magic damage check), doing damage (of course factoring mob stat checks) comparable to similarly leveled Monk's flying kick.
- Short duration group buffs, similar to bard songs (uses Stamina) such as speed, AC, Resists
- Direct mana/health replenishment ability (uses Pilgrim’s Health). Martyr will drain 99% of their health and automatically Feign Death (losing all agro) and infuses the Martyr with a Divine Aura type spell. Other group members are responsible for healing the Martyr.
+health to all group members (direct numbers, possibly a split % of the Martyrs total health multipled by X to make it a viable #)
+mana to all group members (direct numbers, possibly a split % of the Martyrs total health multipled by X to make it a viable #)
- Cover(uses Mana). The Martyr has the ability to split (to all group members) damage inflicted on the MOB's Target without any agro change incrementally draining the Martyr's mana per every second Cover lasts.
- Martyrdom Short range unresistable AE stun procs when the Martyr performs martyr fd
- Righteousness Identical to Warrior's Berserker Frenzy however begins when the Martyr reaches 50% health.

warrior/enchanter
would be a pretty straight up hybrid like SK/Pal/Ranger were.... i.e. gets almost all of the same spells as an enchanter, but a few spell ranks later... limited to chain armor, can dual wield.... would have absolutely zero heals aside from Rune/Berserker Strength line...
a poorly played one would be laughably bad, but a well-played, well-geared one would be at the top of the solo artist challenge.

I'm sure someone posted this combo.. But I always thought a class that was a combo of a bard/wizard, could be skinned to look like a Archer.. Nimbly moving and shooting, providing pure single target dps at a ranged distance.
Stack Dex on this class and can only wear leather maybe idk..
I've just always wanted an actual Archer in Eq.

This.
I got a whole bunch of ones I can't come up with names for.
Enc/shaman, shaman/druid, paladin/rogue, bard/shadowknight...
A cleric/wizard/necromancer would be a Bloodmage, a cloth-wearing, extremely resilient tank caster. They wouldn't have necro pets, superpowered nukes or gamebreaking heals, but a mixture of all three wrapped in a layer of warrior-esque health thanks to cleric- and shaman-type buffs. Their healing and damage power would be on par with Rangers.

Like Azeth said. Blood mage is what you are asking for. They could tank group content easily, did great dps, and great healing.
The cool thing about VG was almost all the classes were OP if you were a good player. You could 3 man most 5 man content if the three of you were solid players...made the game very challenging and fun.
And thanks Glenzig....i will most likely be doing the same thing. If the Vanguard Emu is done right...it will be amazing.

IMHO there are 2 combos missing from EQ:
Elemental Warrior - Warrior / Mage/Wizard hybrid. You can intact have 2 of them:
Ice Guard
Stone Guard
Air and Fire don't really associate with heavy tank class in my mind , but they could pair well with a monk base template:
Elemental Monk :
Flame Walker
Wind Walker
Also: Enchanter/Monk hybryd
