NSA CONVERTING SPOKEN WORDS INTO SEARCHABLE TEXT (https://firstlook.org/theintercept/2015/05/05/nsa-speech-recognition-snowden-searchable-text/)
Ever wonder if your proprietary Google Phone, which is constantly listening for "OKAY GOOGLE", is capable of taking transcripts of your daily speech with a small enough to be transmitted without much of a data impact? naw, that's tinfoil

Stick it in airplane mode when you're not using it.
An admirable attempt at countermeasure but I'm highly skeptical of its potential effectiveness. All that would be required is to hold the text transcript, which would be mere KB in size, in memory until connection was re-established.
If you're serious about resisting carrying the mark of the beast for as long as doing so is not punishable by death, I would recommend looking into jailbreaking your phone and running an open-source Android distribution like Replicant (http://www.replicant.us/).

lol no
certain bugs, such as heartbleed for instance, operate on the kernel level. If there is such an exploit that can turn on someones mic, or camera for instance, it would absolutely have to operate between the OS and the hardware for it to be considered a threat or even an exploit. Simply turning airplane mode on, which works on the OS would immediately be altered in the kernel before the command ever hit the hardware and computed.
Plus airplane mode afaik isn't a total stop transmission command, more like a hold transmission until later command. You're phone is still in constant contact with towers and satellites. Its still very much sending and receiving information, it just doesnt display incoming info to the user until airplane mode is turned off.

Dont worry, the NSA is part of the US government.. and theyre largely incompetent... you should be more concerned with high fructose corn syrup and artificial sweeteners giving you diabetes, butt cancer, or a pleasant combination of both....
