Teams servers were hard coded by race or alignment. For example Sullon Zek had a Good, Neutral, and Evil team that divided certain races and classes between the team.

You could not hit other members of your team even with AOE spells which added an extra dynamic to pvp and coordination.

Sadly it still didn't stop zerging mainly because they never capped teams, but it definitely helped. But they should have made a team off limits after too many people choose that team.

Teams has alot of loopholes to exploit. Cross teaming, same side killstealing, evil races being overpowered, population imbalances . Nothing sucks more than not being able to kill someone that took your camp, is spying on you, or killstealing because you are on the same team. You would end up with the FTE blue server bullshit on a pvp server. Can't beat the local pvp zerg guild? Just log on your same team alts and try to get FTE. This community would ruin it quickly.

3 teams - Good, Evil and Bandits.. Bandits being players who turned in book, are kos in all starting cities.. and essentially are on a te with red server rules.. so instead of X teaming , you join red team.. so your guild is your team, you can pk anyone outside your guild... but group with anyone one red team... I think item loot from inventory inside a container (nothing equipped or sitting open in inventory) then ad in rules where almost all items except epic, epic pieces, and a few clicky quest items are tradeable.. lootable.. like FV.. so all planar armor, god drops, velious quests and pog armor would be loot able if in a bag.. not loot able when worn.. this would make zerg vs non zerg a bit balanced.. as yes you can zerg it up get loot.. but a hank squad can take an item from your bags... but on the plus side you don't lose anything you are using right then... of course higher drop rates.. Sim pops would be needed to make this more fun and less grind..

Give low pop teams resist, regen, and mana regen buff scaled to how imbalanced it is. Also make the low level underdog team bonus much higher and slowly scale it down... base it on active players. .. maybe even within level brackets... The dynamic is different. A team server usually has a safe starting zone for the newbie where he can group up with others of the same race and meet others in defense of his teams side. Anyone not on your team is a clearly defined bad guy, and you can clearly tell they are bad guys because they are a different race and nametag color.

A FFA server is the opposite as the people in your starting zone are all trying to kill you and take your spell money and you really can't trust anyone.

Team server would easily carry more population than FFA simply because it nurses the casual blue player to a higher level. The most popular MMO in the world uses the two team pvp concept, as it creates a safe starting area, but also has pvp when you venture out.

It's abvious that a Team PVP server ruleset is better. For one, it allows for a more dynamic pvp experience as there will always be fights over certain zones. The feeling of belonging and fighting for a cause (your team) is way more fun imo. I played SZ from the start and I loved the team aspect, for example how your could rally ANYONE from your team to help fend from invaders that came to your zone and not only having it be how it is today that your only team is your guild. For example I remember the excitement when there was a call for arms in Gfay when some evils had stormed in to grief in MM. Everyone was on board to help defend their home land, even low levels that could toss a heal. Fun times! It's so obvious this would enrich the PvP experience AND draw way more people to the server than currently on R99.

On teams, everyone has 2 basic reasons to pvp at all times: opposing team kos and zone control. For instance dark team defended kurns, guk, lava, sola/b, seb and light team owned KC, perma, mistmoore, kedge and such.

Teams server does end up sucking really bad to the imbalance of teams and people rerolling. Only way to combat it would be to the limit the amount each team can have. Some one suggested that the team with the lowest population have an xp bonus; that is 100% doable as it has been done on other servers, and it would encourage newer players to pick that team.

Honestly teams could be the solution to people zerging 20 man content, but as Lime said there will be a lot of lame same team crap going on. That and imbalance are really the only downfalls of teams. With that being said SZ deity based teams is probably the most balanced as most teams have every core class.
