Spell Research

Upon getting to level 16 the skill Spell Research is trainable. On my wizard I just got the ability and was able to do around 6-7 combines. Although I didn't get a skill up yet, I started to worry when I saw my skill is Red in the window with "15" by it. Yet, when I visit a trainer it shows "16".

I am wondering, is my skill bugged? Shouldn't I have at least gotten a skillup after a few combines? I really need to get it up there in order to get the second best nuke known to Wizards...Ice Comet.

Research has a skill cap formula:

Max Skill = (Level - 15)*5

However from 16-18, your default skill of 16 in Research, exceeds this cap, and you are not allowed to skill up.

Once you reach Level 19 -- (19-15)*5=20 -- You can increase your skill again.

This is one of the largest problems with research. Spell combines are not able to be trivial until you are 4-5 levels past them. So you end up having to do combines underskill and risk failures.

On the plus side I was able to make two of my level 16 spells already...
