View Full Version : A Legit Project 1999 Website?

Now that we are being recognized by Big Wigs in the corporate world of Daybreak.. It has dawned on me that the face of Project 1999 hasn't changed much over the years.

I know the staff is focused on making the server better, however do you think it is time to give the ol' website a face lift? Much like how the logo was designed by fans, perhaps make a contest of who can make the coolest site? I am sure there are folks here who know how to make a simple, yet appealing website.. I mean Shards of Dalaya has a legit website..

Here is a shot of EQ's site back in June of 2000.. It's kind of broken, but you get the idea..http://web.archive.org/web/20000815064007/http://www.station.sony.com/everquest/

Just a thought, figured I would share it.

The forums are fine. But the front page hasn't really anything to do with the forums, apart from the announcements.

My biggest beef with the forums is that you can't change your preferences to show more than 10 posts per page. Seriously, why is this limit so low? Most modern forums let you display 25 or 50 posts per page! I would love to see this limit increased again.

page clicks

Really though it used to be more, but it got nerfed in the last forum update that locked old posts. If you didn't change settings and had an older account you got to keep the prenerf post per page limit.

Good point. I guess like anything there is room for improvement, but overall I think it looks pretty good. :D

At some point they forced everyone into the the 10-per-page limit.

I've still got 20 per page, should that not be?

I think the op was more taking cosmetics guys not function, like if we are recreating a classic game, let's recreate a classic eq site, I think it would be an awesome idea but probably not worth the hassle, though I would be happy to throw my css/js/html5/php knowledge into the ring :) just say the word oh Lords of p99 and I would whip up an original eq looking homepage to face lift the current one :)

Yep. I probably should have elaborated more on the original post. Give the front page a more vanilla look, like old times. Perhaps with the world map as the back drop. The forums would obviously stay the same.

Good website design costs time or money, and I don't think Rogean has either for something so frivolous. Unless you want to use some crappy template.

Someone here could do the work for free but the current website is all about function over looks - even the frontpage is just a part of the forums.

Classic era website would be a geocities website with EQ music that auto starts when you load the page and sparkly gifs EVERYWHERE.

I just said I would do it and I didn't ask for money lol, it's something I would happily donate my time to if Rogean wants me to :)

Oh man, if I could embed an auto start midi file in my signature life that would be a great day.

One easy thing that would improve the forums could be css media queries for mobile scaling.

Your welcome.

If Google gives you a warning about phishing just ignore it: click "more details" and then "go see the site for security testing", or something like that (Google thinks the page is trying to pretend to be the real P99 and steal your credit card info, but it's just pretending to be P99 so it can Geocities-ify it).

A slicker website would bring in more nubs. We already have plenty as evinced from the gnashing of teeth in regards to Luclingate.

90s web design...kill me now before the nested table codes do, it would be a far more dignified death!
