View Full Version : Raid streaming on Twitch
Does anyone know of any guild that currently streams their raids on twitch regularly?
None of the top end ones do as far as I know. I'll stream hate/fear armor clears and such, but you won't see many people doing real raids. If there's a way to keep TS/Vent audio from streaming via OBS, more would probably do it though.

I doubt it, because twitch is real time people watching (like other guilds) would know exactly where and how your guild is deployed. Who would freely give away more information than necessary?

Things to consider:
Guild's target, content and communication
Depending on raid class some targets are more desirable and contested.
Is it smart to broadcast this?
Twitch streams are generally anywhere from 10-45 second delays not technically live perse. If stream sniping occurs does having proof help or hinder the review process from a GM standpoint?
Is this new content that a guild may be going thru the learning process, and teaching others attending the raid basics? Guild tactics and such?
Guild chatter/tells can be covered and hidden. If VOIP is used any good streamer will be able to control what is and isn't broadcast to the viewers.
There are definitely some positives and and negatives that can come from streaming a raid. Should it be done? That's debatable. Can it be done properly and professionally. Definitely.

you can use virtual audio cable to split vent/ts from not going on twitch. I know mycandavith(sp) does it, but I don't know how to do it.
Maybe I don't understand what a dog eat dog world the raiding scene is.
But i think being completely transparent (including guild vent) would a great stream and I am calling dibs on it.
Stay tuned for details.

Calling dibs? Hah. Not sure how that works.
I have streamed a PoSky raid as an invite.
If you need tips setting up or advice. I would gladly help with my limited knowledge. I personally would like to remain optimistic about the twitch.tv thing as a whole.
GL with the stream and please keep us up to date.

Step 1: Put up large green sheet.

I could tell you where every guild is and what mob they're attempting to go for within 10s of looking at lockouts and mob windows. It's no secret who's going for what.
The main issue for "high end" guilds not streaming is that I (or anyone else I know in TMO/Rampage) don't know how to be able to hear my elfmates in TS without it broadcasting to every turdburglar in my stream.

if your using a USB headset by default it doesn't stream TS only what comes out of your line in speakers or atleast with xsplit anyway

Its quite easy to isolate audio, it all depends on your audio setup.
Open your audio control panel ( systray icon for almost everyone )
How many devices do you have listed? Avail? Disabled or Hidden (( this is where Virtual Audio Cable - VAC comes into play if needed ))
Example:
I have my onboard audio and a separate audio card installed. That's It. I don't even use VAC. But some people may need it.
Headphones are connected to one device, and speakers are on another. ( the hardware connected to the computer is irrelevant - as this is what YOU are hearing, not what is being captured by the streaming software )
Now check your OBS/Xsplit streaming software, what is the primary source for audio output? Is it default? are you selecting a specific device? What is the audio setup within your VOIP software? what do you have configured?
If everything is set to Default, and your streaming software is using Default... guess what EVERYTHING gets broadcast.
If you have your Teamspeak set for audio output to anything OTHER than what OBS/Xsplit is capturing guess what... it WON'T get broadcast.
With some trial and error and testing, it shouldn't be very difficult for even the most novice of users to figure out.

Does that mean I'm in? ;)

I use a laptop connected to an external monitor and I'm too lazy to plug in a mic 97% of the time so I make everyone listen to me through my awful laptop mic. Still a way to isolate it?

Isolate what?
Not sure what you are trying to accomplish. You want people to experience a better quality mic sound? Or are you trying to make it so you can be in a VOIP program but don't want the viewers to listen? The VOIP software will have audio input, this what what you talk thru via microphone, and audio OUTPUT ie: where you want the sound to come out/listen to? If your control panel is configured properly. You can have the audio output NOT be the same device be the same one your streaming software uses.
You not being willing or too lazy to plug in headphones or a mic. No setup can fix that.
It doesn't matter if you are on a laptop or not. Connected to a TV or not.
People hearing you thru a mic connected to your laptop vs using whatever built-in mic has absolutely nothing to do with what you are broadcasting.
How do you have your audio panel configured? or the software audio output: OBS/Xsplit, Mumble, Teamspeak.
Also, not sure if this is even on topic anymore based on OP'S initial question. Does this needs to be moved to a different thread??

Stream more action! This content is so old what does it really matter? Seems it would be a good recruiting tool.
Most raiding is just waiting for shit to spawn. When mobs pop, it'd definitely be cool to watch, but the downtime would be hard to keep viewers watching.
