So I haven't thought of EQ since I got bored of Shards of Dalaya. Some people I was friends with there migrated here, but I never followed up on that. I somehow ended up thinking about it tonight after playing some Starcraft. I am installing EQ right now and preparing to sign on. The nostalgia is getting me excited!

Now, I played both Bard and Rogue on Live almost exclusively as they were the most fun classes for me. How realistic is it for me to have fun with either of them here? Am I going to have problems with groups? Am I going to ruin my wrists while twisting songs?

Grouping is my number one concern because I can't stand solo play in MMOs. If neither of these classes are viable, what is?

Thanks!

bard and rogue are both great imo. keep in mind the exp penalty for bards, its pretty steep and if your a casual player you might find yourself being left behind. as for rogues i like em. theres a lot of hate on the forums about how rogues will only be useful when kunark comes out and what not, but again if your a casual player it wont effect you much. play what you want to play! have fun!

Yeah I suffered the bard exp penalty on live. As long as songs work as close to they did on live I guess I'd be happy with that. Shards bards were very strange and underwhelming in comparison.

Bards for the most part work here as they did in classic with some... exceptions.

From what i've seen/read, unless any of these things has change:
bard mez push doesnt work
swarm kiting is impossible
aoe kiting is doable, but more difficult due to on this server, mobs run faster than normal run speed, but slower than sow, and also when running in a straight line their hit reach is waaaaaay beyond normal range.

Rogues are still wanted/needed for DPS, only thing that doesn't work for them here is disarm, disarm traps, and maybe poisons? not sure on last one. rogues also have an exp bonus of 9% compared to the -40% penalty of bards, which doesn't really matter much honestly. you've got pleeeenty of time before kunark to hit cap.

Hmm, sounds like either one could work for me. Are rogues more desirable in groups than bards? Is either one more common than the other?

Is the level 3 bard song useless like it is on live? (stamina regen song)

How badly will I have to fight over loot with other classes?

I'd say finding groups as a Rogue is around the same as it was on live, which means difficult at times. I would play a Rogue, but I can't do what I did back in 1999-2001 which is sometimes be LFG for hours. You might have to hang around a group and wait for a spot to open. Sometimes you might find a group right away.

maybe i misused the terminology, i meant charm-burning style, as far as i always knew, what you linked is just aoe'ing, getting a bunch of mobs to turn on a single one you charmed was always called swarm kiting where i come from.
