View Full Version : WTB Unable to edit EC forum posts? Please read here!

So recently there was a decision to make it so all forum posts are only editable for 30 minutes after they are initially posted. This was the only explanation given:
It was recently changed to a 30 minute window.
Source: Unable to edit my forum posts (http://www.project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?t=188988)
This change seems to conflict with the direction Rogean stated he wanted posting to go in this forum:
You may only have a maximum of 3 active threads during a 48 hour period. This means that you can not create or post in more than 3 of your own threads within that time frame. It is recommended that you consolidate your wares or soliciting into a single thread or category per thread if possible.
Source: EC Forum Rules (Read Before Posting) (http://www.project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?t=35747)
How can we consolidate all our wares into a "single thread" if we are unable to edit the contents of the posts in that thread?
This change makes it impossible to make one or two thread(s) to consolidate all your items that you want to buy/sell and it's nice to be able to edit a post to indicate an item is bought/sold. This can lead to getting lots of PMs about items that you are no longer buying/selling and will also make it so sellers will have to constantly make new threads when they get new items for sale... creating tons of additional clutter in the ec forums.
My opinion is that it makes the entire forum less convenient to use which will cause people to stop using the forums as much for buying and selling making it even more frustrating to find what you need to buy or sell items. Especially with how packed EC is with everyone trying to buy/sell what they need before velious launch. There's just over a month until velious so I think the timing for this change is really bad for everyone. I don't see any benefits or positives from this change.
What do you think? Is this change good or bad?
Let the staff know how you feel. You can post here or post on the thread in the technical forums here: http://www.project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?t=188988
PS: Bump this thread if you'd like to see these changes reverted back. The more people that see this and speak out the more likely it will get changed back quicker. It's as simple as checking or unchecking a checkbox to allow threads in the EC forums to be enabled indefinitely like they always used to be.

means I have to make a new post everytime I aquire something new or sell something, rather than just use the same thread I have had for years. doesn't make sense.

I can't think of one reason to not allow editing of EC tunnel posts.

Editing needs to be brought back for sure due to the many other rules in place. Having to wait "x" amount of time to bump and not being able to create "x" amount of threads in a certain amount of time really limits the information you can portray in how your sales are moving along accordingly in real time.

Well what I did with my post was just quote my original post and remove or add items as needed, however that is still less convenient because people have to search through your posts to find the most recent list. So yes, bring back editing ha.

Just another bump for "yes." Maybe the reasoning behind this change has been spelled out somewhere and I just missed it, but being able to edit posts in a trading forum just seems totally sensible and straightforward to me. Can't imagine what purpose this change serves.

Maybe they want more redundant posts to make the forum look more active. Because that's the only thing this change does. Signed.

Kinda goofy that you can't edit it..... now it looks like we're forever selling an item rather than being able to update it when it's sold.

It really screws up search function when you're looking for items, and keeps players from maintaining threads. Please reconsider edit function for this forum at least.

Unless there is a valid reason which I havent seen, I agree, the edit should be brought back. It's just way to useful, especially for people selling multiple items in the same post.

Almost 95% of the people that voted on this agree that it editting should return... which never happens in our community... and it's been over a month with no response and no reasoning. It would take clicking 1 checkbox and less than a minute to bring editing back to this one subforum. It's pretty safe to say, at least in this case, that the staff doesn't really give a shit what the playerbase wants and has their own reasons for wanting to create tons of extra spammy posts so I guess it's safe to assume the rules that can'r realistically be followed are no longer in place. Why not at least re-write the EC forum rules in such a way that they at least make sense?

This would be nice... my thread of 125 items for sale could really use some editing, and I get PMs about things that are no longer available. Lets say I sell half of them... am I supposed to then make another thread, listing half of my items again making two separate threads of mine selling the same item pop up in a search for one item?

Please for the love of Karana, allow us to edit our EC threads!!!!

can't believe this is still an issue. our black president just turned the white house rainbow colored after the supreme court decided gay people could get married, but we still can't edit posts in the EC tunnel forum. come on, this is 2015! we should be making progress, not going backwards!
