Is low level blacksmithing broken?

I'm getting the message "you cannot combine these items in this container type" when trying to make large lantern, or a scaler. I'm using the items listed in the wiki for the combine. I tried in Oggok (I'm playing an Ogre) and also in Grobb forge but still it's not working. Is this a known issue?

Now I'm also getting this message when trying to make metal bits which I successfully made earlier...(though I made those in Oggok and now I'm in Grobb).

Did you make sure you're using the normal forge and not the cultural forge?

Hmm I didn't know there were different ones...the one I am using in Oggok says "Oggok Forge" is that the cultural one?
