View Full Version : Need some advice about traveling

Me, my gf and my brothers are going to play together in a group regularly. I have to play the healer, a role that I dont particulary enjoy, I was thinking of playing a barbarian shaman which I find a bit more appealing than cleric or druid

My problem, they're at greater faydark and we're starting from scratch. Back in the old days I actually pulled something like this with a SK Ogre. I actually moved to live in faydark and surroundings. Ended up being able to go into the city and everything without the guards killing me heh. But the round trips to train and buy spells etc were hard, even back then when the servers were full. I used to know the map like my house, but I dont really remember much anymore, so I have a few questions to see how I can handle this:

- At what level should I be able travel without too much trouble by walking from the north to faydark?

- If we end up playing for very long and get into the hard stuff, will I end up regreting not rolling a cleric for our group? :P

Thanks in advance for any info or ideas :P.

What classes did they pick?

At level 9 you get sow and that helps a ton with travel. You could make it at lvl 1 if you are cautious and are constantly looking around and conning mobs to see if they will attack. Also I'm sure that you could get someone to pick you up in NK for free, just ask nicely and tell them that it is your first char and you are trying to take a barb all the way to gfay to mee up with your RL buds.

Shaman can be great healers because of the awesome slows that you get as well as having a large mana pool due to canni. But clerics are the main healers of this game and CH rules everything.

Shamans get greater healing at lvl 29 (270 hp heal) and do not get another heal until lv 53 (superior healing). Clerics get greater healing at 24 and get superior healing at lv 34, then at lvl 39 it is game over when they get CH.

I do not think that you would regret either choice. If there is any other class that can heal in your group I would go shaman. Paladins and even rangers can help with healing a lot. Rangers can help much more in down time. Paladins can help during downtime and during fights. Paladins get greater healing at lvl 39. So from lvl 39 to 53 they have the same heal spell as a shaman.

Our group right now contains:
Rogue
Paladin
Ranger
Wizard
Enchanted
Cleric (me)

With the paladin and wizard being the most stable members.

I think I'll roll a shaman, level it a bit so I at least have the first few spells and try to make the trip, play the cleric with my friends meanwhile.

Thanks a lot for the info curtischoy

A Barb Shaman with luck, can run out of Everfrost, through BlackBurrow at level 5. It may take a couple of tries but you can get to the Wizard Thingy in WK and beg like heck to get a Port there from a Wizzy. :p

With enchanter a cleric may be the better route to go. Chanters get pretty good slows as well, not as good as shaman, but they are still huge later on and with CH you could easily heal. Also paladins get good aggro very quickly so the enchanter should be able to slow immediately after tash.

Honestly either cleric or shaman would finish that group nicely, I don't think you could go wrong with either.

PM me and let me know when you will be on. I'll throw you some plat to get important leveling spells for shaman and port you from EF to Steamfont and escort you to Gfay to join your crew.

Shaman hands down. Sow makes everything easier to escape (less deaths for the group) and travel time cut in half. With group buffs you are increasing DPS as well

Do this. If Thulack's hours aren't good for you, I'll do the same. Killing in Crushbone will get your faction good enough that you can go in to Kelethin (did for my iksar warrior).

One of the nice things about playing with really close friends/family is you can rotate characters to mix it up.

Thanks everyone for the info and Thulack and lecompte specially for the offer. I'll roll the shaman some evening this week, I'll pm you when I know, I'm not sure yet when I'll be at work.

The full group meets Saturdays at 12am (GMT + 1) so nobody worry if you see a group of loud spaniards without a clue (only 2 of us did play EQ) running about greater faydark and falling from the tree city :). On our first session last saturday we covered the basics of the classic experience I remember from the good old days:

One of our members hit autoattack on a guard.
Another one had rolled a bard to try out and discovered the joys of activating the damage song in the city.
Our rogue got lost in the city looking for the trainer and then fell form the trees, then we spent 10 minutes looking for the body under the city.

:)

There is a wizard spire in WK? I don't see it on the map.. do you know the
/loc and the name of wizard spell?

Edit: I found it: Lvl 24 Wizard spells "West Gate", teleports to -3569,-14815,36

This sounds useful for Qeynos/Halas chars... I used to think that running to NK was the only way to get ported out.

I don't think you can do that unless you have had it since like 4 years ago.??

You cant bind there. But you can always run there to travel. Ive never timed it but getting a Lev/sow might be a quicker run to get to places like everfrost or cabilis without finding ports.

It is. I bind at the docks in oasis and your just a short run (sow'd and lev) to anywhere
