I'm curious to know what classes people will be making when the new "progression" server starts, and why.
I was thinking it would be cool to go with Necro out the gate because of how fast you could level so quickly, and they'd not gear dependent at all. But then it would also be a good time to start a group dependent char like Warrior, because the server will be really bottom heavy for awhile, and there should be xp groups aplenty!
What are you guys going to do?
I'm probably going to go with a class that I haven't played much, or know the least about. Mainly to try to capitalize on the "fresh/we're all newbs" feel. So probably Wizard or Warrior...

You do realize this server won't exist for several years right? Which means that even if you waited until a year before the server was released to have this discussion, you'd still have to wait at least a year to have it.
But, that being said, pointless discussions make up like half of all threads in this forum, so ... personally I will probably roll a shaman, because that's what I always do. But I'm torn between rolling a Barbarian (which I always do) and trying something more adventurous like an Ogre or Troll.

I loved my barb, but I think i will go ogre.. idk its more of a pain in the ass than the barb, but.. idk its nice to be big and act like i am always right.

I have no reason to not believe their statement that this server will launch several months into Velious. So I doubt it will take several years....but the server will be up for several years before it's first reset cycle.

Not sure tbh. Probably a paladin or ranger or maybe a Druid or shaman.

I have NEVER, in 16 years playing EQ, had a high level Wizard. Probably my goal someday if I live that long to do lol.
I want to say bard or enchanter.

Dwarf Paladin.
It was my main on live for 10 years and I loved it. Haven't made a tank on blue because I didn't want to tank again, but now I am in the mood. Gear dependency will suck but I figure I will be wanted in groups so that will be fun.
Also I much prefer camping my loot to buying it and this will be pretty much the only option for a while and so others will be doing the same.

If the "refresh" server does eventually exist... it depends on what expansion, on what class I would play. Although I don't really want to leave the current p99 for any reason. With Velious on the way, there are so many things there I want to do. Tunare owes me a sword.
Velious - Monk
Luclin - Ranger
PoP - SK

Druid for classic. Why?
-Decent viability in groups in classic.
-Arguably best farming class in classic (manastoneszzzzz).
-Ports. Need I say more?
-Most self-sufficient class in classic.

Monk or bard. I love pulling
The one class that I have never reached over level 10 is a wizard, so I will most likely roll one.

I'm not sure yet, but as others have noted, probably a more group dependent class. Maybe cleric since I've never leveled one. Or maybe pally again. I'm looking forward to starting out with fully non twined groups. Tedium is part of the magic that is EverQuest.

If even one person doesn't min max, the server will be shut down immediately!

My most used character will still be an Enchanter, but I'll also play the one class I've been avoiding: the monk. Never really got into them. they do a bit less damage than rogues, earn a bit less XP than rogues, can't carry as much as rogues, and I'm too inept to figure out how Feign Death works. The concept of using your body as both a tranquil pond and a destruction machine appeals to the part of me that watched Kung Fu movies.
