View Full Version : Game Mechanics: Linara Parlone not accepting quest items

I was trying to do the mystic cloak quest yesterday. A high level enchanter, Fawqueue, was helping me by charming Linara Parlone in Najena.
I am a dark elf mage, so normally Linara scowls at me and will not respond to hails.
The enchanter charmed her, and at that point she conned indifferent, and responded to hails. She responded with quest text for [help] and [key]. However, when I tried giving her the tarnished bronze key from the priest of najena, when I hit the button to confirm giving her the key, I would get a message saying that this NPC cannot accept this item.
The enchanter tested giving her other items. He tried giving her a rusty spear, which she rejected with the same message. Interestingly, her graphic showed her wielding the spear even though she rejected the item!
Here is evidence that charming npcs to do this quest should work

Working as intended.
Recently, the quest was patched to require Amiable+ faction, so someone else charming her would only grant you indifferent faction, which is too low for the turn in.
Moving to resolved

Thanks for the quick reply GM Glitch! The quest being patched to be Amiable+ faction certainly explains her behavior.
On live, it seems the quest was (and still is) threateningly+ for the first two npcs, but dubious+ for the final turn in

Linara Parlone in Najena was easy. I Invis'd then went right down to the cell block. She conned indiff to me so I was a little concerned but since I'm good aligned she handed over the letter as expected.

anyone can do the quest, regardless of faction or class once the enchanter charms her. i did it back in the day for a necro friend of mine who had less than stellar morals. had to charm the whole series of npc's, even her mom, in erudin

Invis creates an Indifferent faction with those that cannot see invis.
At the start of the Red Wine Quest, I was Scowling, Ready to Attack... But the priest was too low to attack me (or is naturally non-agro)
My trick :
1) Open the trade window
2) Place items in thier given slots
3) Have a grouped friend cast invis on you
4) Hit "Give"
Step 1 is where invis is set to drop when trading, by having someone invis you AFTER that point, you become Indifferent to the given NPC, hence allowing the quest to complete...

My DEF who worships Innoruuk did this and now owns the cloak... I know this quest backwards and forwards... please stop posting "how do i do it?" here it is, the exact way to complete it. and if not, my e-mail is at the bottom so i can walk you through it!
I used Ball of Clay, Threateningly, Invis, Give, obtained note.
Another Ball of Clay, Threateningly, Invis, Give, obtained faded cloak.
Another Ball of Clay, Threateningly, Invis, Give, "Thank you" nothing in return.
I ran the quest over but for the last step i had a 52 ENC (40+ should ensure 100% chance of successful charm) charm the erudin NPC and then i gave it to her and got
the mystic cloak succesfully. Turns out the following factions are required as a bare minimum to run the quest:
Linara Parlone in Najena - Threateningly
Tolkar Parlone in Felwithe - Threateningly
Trilani Parlone in Erudin ENC Guild - Dubious (a friend ran the whole quest with straight dubious faction and got it)
From these evidence, it seems that the live quest was threateningly+ for the first two NPCs, but dubious+ for the final turn in.
Is this quest different from live by design, or should this issue be investigated?
Thanks again for the quick reply!

Hmm, fellow GM Uthgaard.
He seems to have presented viable data which supports his claim. It looks like we should revert our changes to this quest, wouldn't you agree, associate GM Uthgaard?

I wanted to raise this issue for visibility. Is it possible that the current factions required is wrong? Please see my post above for evidence that the current quest is on the wrong faction.

A dark elf necro was able to complete this quest on live via a combination of ball of golem clay or call of bones to raise faction above scowls and if dubious you could complete it, if not you could get an invis once the trade window was open to complete.
Alternatively you could get an enchanter to charm it. Amiable was most definitely not a requirement for this quest on live.
