Hey all, new player on Project99. Have not played EQ in over a dozen years and just downloaded everything and decided to try red for something different. I played PvE back on live and figured this would be a nice change of pace and I've always enjoyed PvP. Great fun so far.

To make a long story short, I killed a guy while he was engaged with a mob. I'm only level 8 so this was my first PvP fight, just wanted see what it was like. He had over 80% health when the fight began so it's not like he was almost dead.

Anyway, killed him and afterwards I tried helping him when he came back to loot his corpse (pulled a mob off him) but he attacked, I had under 20 heath and was bound pretty far away (to be honest couldn't even remember how to get back to the zone) so I ran from him and didn't want to fight.

I realize running is bit of a pussy move but being new I didn't relish a super long corpse run and like I said I didn't even remember how to get back to the zone if I was to die. Surprised to see someone get so angry over PvP on a PvP server. He lost his marbles and was super pissed. Did I break any codes of etiquette here but ganking and then running?

Cheers

Everyone has their own views. Killing someone engaged can cause exp loss. Something I won't do unless I have a reason. At level 8 exp loss is no big deal anyways but people will say you have no honor or skills.

Running from a fight you will lose sounds smart to me and if that pisses him off and makes an enemy for life I consider that a win win.

I say do what you want but your actions may come back to haunt you. Which you may consider a good thing.

You can engage players with mobs long as you don't intentionly cause experience loss. 9/10 people will engage you with a mob. I've even scene people wait for you to attack a mob then go for an advantage.

You did nothing wrong. Welcome to red.

Proper etiquette is to attack only players who are engaged in PVE activities, and if they somehow manage to live and attack you back zoneplug immediately.

Sounds like you were creating actual pvp. Good on you.

I think people forget it's a game. Like, literally, this game is a game. You don't just win every round. You lose some.

If you want to play it safe, don't engage dangerous mobs when there are potential opponents in the zone or nearby.

I think most people who get really mad over being killed are new. Wouldn't you say? But as a player PvPs more, they start to get less worked up over the deaths that occur.

Good job. Take the opportunities you get. People will do the same thing to you if they get the chance. Also most people prefer exp death over YT here; exp bonus is currently insane.
