It seems like whenever an NPC does any damage to the mob even if it is only one round, and I did the other 95% of the damage... the mob will die and leave no corpse and yield no EXP.
From what I recall, atleast I know it has functioned on Live for quite some time... perhaps it didn't originally if so disregard this but I believe it did, that if you did 1 point of damage OVER the 50% of the mobs HP you got kill credit even if an NPC finishes off the last 49%.

You have to give the death blow. That's it. Regardless of how much damage you do, if the NPC get's the deathblow, the mob poofs. If ALL you do, damage wise, is the death blow you get the XP and can loot the mob's corpse. And that matches live as well.

Not true of live today actually. If you do 51% of a mobs health then train it to NPCs who will attack it and they do the last 49% and get the killshot, you get exp + loot rights of the corpse.

You're doing it wrong.

To each his own :P. But seriously I never recall "Kill shot gets it" I recall it just considering NPCs as people also. If they technically 'won' the kill by getting 51% damage done, they won the corpse... which for NPCs = corpse poof.

I tried this out to see if it is true. I pulled some orcs to the guards and made sure they were all slain by me and gained no XP or faction adjustments. I'm curious how it actually works and how is it suppose to work ?

You have to out damage the NPC.
You have to get the death blow.
What is the point of deathblow only? Do the last 100 HP, of a 4000 HP mob, and you get exp? Ya. Right. Good luck with that one.
Mechanics are working as intended.

I can confirm this, because I used to train GrimFeather to all the guards in NK trying to whittle him down enough for me to kill, then it was a race to turn off my auto-attack and save my Kick and wait until he was at like one pixel of health so I could get the final blow in.

I used to pull giants to the Coldain Scouts in GD - I would let them beat the mob down to almost dead then try to get the death blow. If I got it, I got the XP. The coldain did FAR more damage than I ever did.
