Everyone has been talking about variance. Here's a proposal that I think satisfies all sides:

Currently, there are two spawns:

First, is the world timer spawns, which are 3 to 7 days for respective mobs, and are split so that 1 guild can stake claim to, and govern their spawn timers.

Second, is the "random" respawns that seems to be controlled by GMs, which give a second serving of mobs, not sharing the worldtimer, also not encouraging any pvp competition for

Back in the days of Sony, mobs respawned after servers were hard reset, after a patch, generally on Tuesday afternoons. My proposal is that there be a hard code to emulate a hard reset, scaling in 7% increments. For example:

Server resets on Sunday at a random time.
7% chance for reset on Monday
14% Tuesday
21% Wednesday
28% Thursday

and so on.

Furthermore, the resets should be random between peak times, such as 7pm-12am EST, which gives a 5 hour window.

I think this is better than to have random spawn timers for individual mobs. I'm interested in hearing thoughts, and please, keep this thread a productive, non-flame thread. I'm asking for moderation in here if people start flaming and get off track.

I think this will also encourage people to be online more often, rather than a few days a week where they get to 'choose' the raids they want to partake in.

I'm from '99-'05 bro, where these spawns actually happened and there was actual competition for mobs rather than 1 guild governing all the spawns.

Maybe I'm wrong and we should do Tuesday patch day repops between 2 and 4pm est like they were on live instead of random hours during peak times on random days. Eurocore would be happy I'm sure.

trak spawned last night while holo was in vp

azrael got it.

theres competition, try joining in.

we have an up and coming third guild too, fresh. And i hope they get their shit together and contest.

If you're fine with conceptually doubling the amount of raid loot entering the world why stop there? Just make shit spawn every 4 hours and I guarantee every single guild will get raid targets.

why not make dragons instant respawn on death then? just keep trak spawning till everyone wipes and you get to loot shit as fast as you can?

why not just start fully geared and not even play?

why even live when you are just going to die?

This server can never be truly classic. The gear saturation is so ridiculous compared to live it's impossible to use classic mechanics and achieve the same feel.

Everyone was scared to do VP because there was no way to get back in if you died in there. Your key would not be with you if you died, and /keyring wasn't until PoP iirc

Kunark release: April 24th, 2000
Velious release: December 5th, 2000

That is roughly 7 1/2 months of Kunark.

To give you an idea of how much PD loot was around, I'll reference this:

Afterlife was one of the top 5 EQ guilds of that era (I couldn't find the FoH guild site for 2000 or Legacy of Steel's) but I imagine they were in the same ballpark.

They didn't drop PD until less than a month before Velious was released.
