I was thinking of starting a toon on Red, was curious how life is on that server? Pvp pretty balanced between classes? I played a mage on TZ and there shamana/cleric on Zek. Easy to find groups / guild or should I expect a lot of soloing?

there is none, none over dragons, no skirmishes. basically a blue server with the option to pvp that noone takes.

I wont speak to balance but I can tell you the odds of grouping here are very good, no matter what class. Every group member adds to XP so people are apt to invite; even hybrids. Most guilds are happy to have new members and there are several with open recruitment policies.

PvP so far is pretty limited. And a good part of the kills you see are griefing. Imagine a server where 3 people who want to PvP can control a whole zone, including the officer of one of the largest guilds, and no one comes for retribution. They just /ooc about what a horrible person you are.
Grouping is easy, most of the server just wanted blue without the numbers. Plenty of level 60's with 0 kills and 20 deaths. They accept (and avoid) PvP as the price they pay for empty camps and exp bonus. A few have told me they just want the "option" to PvP in case they need to do something if they have to (specifically bad group mates). Not my thing, but you always need sharks, minnows' and everything in between.
If you like to PvP join up for sure. Could use more people to either stand their ground or come back with a group to kill my brother and I (duo). I don't plug, but I will gate lol.
Of the 250 on in a given night it feels like around 25-30 fall into PvP.

I see YT going all day long. Those who wish to PVP can find it. Those who don't, on a 250-300 pop server can easily avoid it. I do not do well in PVP but its there...

Averages 1 kill every 4.8 minutes...some of those are guildies preventing an exp death (Holo), a few are people being griefed in Unrest etc.
Considering there seems to be between 125-250 people on at a given time, one kill every five minutes is pretty low....thats a lot of player time not PvPing on a Red server.

You're right...but if we assume a certain percentage if PvP results in YT, then this is a good measure of PvP occurring. With an estimated 3,600 playing hours a day (150*24) on the server, we are only seeing a verified kill every five minutes.
In my case, I see YT in about 1/3 of encounters, and they usually last under 2 minutes that is not a lot for the server population. This is why I feel the server is very non-PvP focused.

The guy asked what it was like, and I gave him my opinion with some if the information available to us. Not sure why it seemed to bother you so much? Do you feel the server has more than enough PvP?
I don't think anyone expects FPS style PvP here, but if he should know that it is not very common (except getting griefed as a new player).

Your experience leveling:
Going AFK? Deadman (or woman)
Come upon someone who is red to you in an area to exp? Invite them for sweet exp bonus!
Got a sweet group in a predictable zone? Don't worry - someone leveled a rogue up, got epic / poison / fungi and de-leveled to grief you and your group hunting in the predictable zone.
Exping in a group and someone (or a small group) rolls up to pvp - lots of scared running and dispelling until oom. Maybe someone does. Lots of gating.
Let's say you decide to try and do some pvping - despite knowing that you're going to try killing off the people with whom you probably want to get a group. You roam about to the usual spots and people flee as they just want to exp.
Level 60 - you don't actually pvp you just complain about pixels and people not pvping. Every once in a while someone calls out a 1v1 and you need to trashtalk more about how its not worth it since they died once in 2011 and you proved you're the best.
I'm not 60, but it's my understanding that that's what level 60 pvp is about.
My personal philosophy? PvP is fun & adds a thrilling element. When I pvp I don't trash talk. Keep it classy, keep it classic.
[but a teams no level limit server would be best imo...]
