Hey folks, short version is I played eq long ago, found p99 last week and will be playing when I come home from offshore. Been deciding between red or blue. I work 7 / 7 and have a wife and a 4 month old now so my playtime is very limited. If I rolled blue i was going to do bard, if red I was thinking bard shaman or paladin. Any opinions? Would I have enough playtime to actually do things, or would I just be corpse running a lot?

if your playtime is limited, i would say go with the shaman for sure
paladin can't do much on their own

Shaman or even Druid maybe for ease of getting around without having to waste playtime sitting around looking for a port.

My top choice was the halfelf bard. Followed by either iksar shaman and high elf paladin. Back on live years ago bard was my main. I love selos... also how would a rogue work with sneak / hide, since likely needing to afk at times.

All classes suck when afk.

Can a rogue not hide well enough to be safe? To be fair i never played pvp on live, mostly due to being young and not being able to. Not sure how hide and sneak works in pvp. Granted bards get a combo of hide and invis

Rogue sneak/hide can be seen through with just a see invis which most people usually have up.

if ur first choice is bard, go bard
great choice for soloing/pve/pvp/low playtime all around powerful and sustainable

Don't afk. Camp out.

I find that it is ok to afk, maybe because of the low pop. I just find a spot off the beaten path. In pve back on live or in p99 blue I always went afk on a zone wall. Here in red it's usually behind a tree where I know people don't run and no see invis mobs path.
Logging out is the only way to be safe for sure.

I tell people I am afk a lot - usually when I die in PVP. The truth is I just panic and then lock up completely until I'm dead when I get attacked. The shame is too much so I say I was afk.

Afk'ing is fine as long as you do it in an out of the way spot and not for too long. If you are 20% health and you afk for 2 minutes while playing regen song, most times you will be fine as long as you pick a good spot. Track is very off unless you stay in the same spot for about 5 minutes +, but once you move it's off again. So even if a ranger/druid/bard ran by and got you on track, chances are they won't be able to find you before you are back.
But for the sake of God, please don't cry and whine and complain when eventually you do get killed while afk. To save you the hassle of seeing it 50 times in /ooc after you do, DO NOT AFK ON A PVP SERVER.... you do so at your own risk :)

The best is when you log in to a hot spot to help someone calling for it in TS while at work only to realize you didn't have your UI setup for that character on that computer. Running around trying to setup your skills lol..
Made things interesting.

if your playtime is limited, better off not playing and just enjoying life
you really wont shine much here unless your unemployed as fuck and can make it to the top of various faggot run loot councils.

bard is prob the best choice especially for a new player without any gear. just get one plat to buy those vendor instruments (drum and lute first) and you'll be set

Question. If attacked in a city, will guards help you?

Yes - unless the person has higher faction then you.

Choose a class that can bind near wherever you're exping. Shaman is good, Necro is good, Wizard is good, Enchanters are great if well played, but it's quickly obvious if you're just a decent chanter or a great chanter once you have to keep some stuff on lockdown. Rogues a good choice because lots of the top guilds are heavily seeking rogues, plus they xp a bit faster. If I had to pick another race class combo, I'd probably go Ogre SK just for the fun factor.
you chose the better option. this server is much more fun, and hopefully more people will see the light and this server's pop will jump to 500. It would be nice to see some huge competitive 3-4 guild zerg pvp action.
