Rules for the Red99 Enchanter Best of the Best:

to sign up - you must send a private message on these forums to Sirken, the subject should say "Enchanter BotB", and the message it self must contain your enchanters name and level. i will respond back to each PM to let you know that you have been registered.

Sign ups will close March 19th at 11:59pm EST. Brackets will be posted on the 20th. and the Best of the Best will occur Saturday March 21 at 1pm EST in the Arena.

We will not be allowing spectators for this event, and the staff reserves the right to remove, suspend, or ban any players that fail to follow this rule.

No right click items.
1 min buff period.
No resummoning of pets if they died.
Can't leave the platform in the area.

Level Restrictions: 56-60 Only.

no fears, WHIRLs, Gfluxs, mez/charms on players,

Guides and GM's are considered judges and therefore restricted from being attacked. Anyone found attacking a GM or Guide may be banished from the Arena or death touched without warning.

The Arena is off limits to unauthorized PvP 15 minutes before and 15 minutes after the event. This is to ensure that the contestants and spectators are safe.

Anyone who casts any spells (including Bard songs) during a match can be death touched and removed from the Arena.

do not use /shout for any reason, but use /ooc instead. This is so that those involved in the match can use /shout, and the /ooc channel can be turned off to reduce distraction to the contestants involved. Use of /shout at anytime can result in a silence command being issued, rendering the player unable to use any form of communication, or banishment from the Arena.

Spectators shall not interfere with this event. Severe penalties are used only when directly attacking a player involved in the match, attacking a judge during the match, or healing a player involved in a match.

AoE Spells ARE allowed in game.

General Combatant Rules

The top of the throne, in the throne, or behind the throne is off limits to the combatants during the matches. The four firepots are also off limits to the combatants. Use of these areas in match combat will lead to contestants being disqualified.

Starting positions are allowed anywhere that is legal (meaning not on the throne or in firepots) that is on your half of the tiles.

All participants will be debuffed before the match.

Weapons with the following spell effects attached to them will not be allowed in Best of the Best Series; Knockback, Fear, Invisibility, and Shrink.

The use of "Right Click" items is not permitted, unless specifically stated otherwise in the Class Specific Rules.

The following spell types may not be used in any of the Best of the Best Series:

WHIRLs, mez/charms on players,

Any form of Fear or Charm unless directed at a pet.

Gravity Flux or Invert Gravity

Any type of gate or translocation spell (Example shadow step)

The following item types will not be allowed in the Best of the Best Series:

Any type of Artifact items

Any type of regeneration effect items. (Example Fungi Tunic)
The event staff, Due to the amount of contestants, may decide to split the combat area in half. The arena in this case will be divided making two battle areas for 2 matches to be performed at one time.

In the event that the combat exceeds 15 minutes of real time, then the Event Staff may cast an AoE Snare spell on the contestants, and the contestants are to remain snared till end of match.

Any use of exploits or bugs will result in immediate disqualification from the event.

The following spell types may not be used in this Best of the Best Series: Any form of Fear (Charm is ok if directed at a pet). Any type of Blind spells or spells with a blind component. Gravity Flux or Invert Gravity. Any type of gate or translocation spell (Example: shadow step).

Mobs were present during the original Enchanter BotB back in 2001. However, they were not level 42+ lava guardians that were sicced on each contestant that blue experienced.

This is the closest I've ever been able to find to the original rules for the Enchanter BotB. Harpy's Head Tavern posts are woefully under archived.

That was the Cleric tournament with the red and blue ogre knights.
Go and read the rules page about this one [enchanter botb] and it states that there will be
an NPC [skeletons] at each of the 4 torches in the corners and also one on each end of
the platform, which after a certain time limit NPCs will start spawing in
the center. If the contestants step out of the center 4 tiles an NPC will
agro on them.

Better solution than socialing lava guardians would have been spawn 4x level 35 skeletons (basically town guard with skeleton model undead mechanics), one at each firepot. Have both enchanters start in the center 4 squares. If they leave, then the skeletons would aggro that enchanter based on the enchanters actions/proximity rather than having to be forced #aggro by the GMs. If the fighting goes for more than a minute start spawning new skeletons in the direct center of the platform, until someone wins.


In the Blue Enchanter BotB people didn't have equal circumstances. Some enchanters in the early rounds where not given time to even memorize their 8 spells before the fight clock was started. Enchanters started not accepting the GM rez until they memorized their spells. There was inconsistency with the buff timing and engage count down timer running before enchanters announced ready.

NPCs should have been respawned if they got weapons or mage masks after each fight. Some enchanters were getting attacked by dual wielding ykeshas + mage haste mask lava guardians while others were only getting beat on by normal lava guardians.

You were better off not doing anything to your opponent and watching for the lava guardians to come in from the far walls of the arena and position your opponent between you and the incoming lava guardians.

RoA wasn't as big a deal as some would think. Some people I trained with who had RoA were out very quick. There are counter-strategies to RoA.

Nope. Zelina got 1st I got 2nd. I had an RoA and she didn't. She did have some VP gear and I don't even have Sky, so tradeoff. Don't let gear scare you though it wasn't a deal-breaker. I'll admit though that I suck at melee PVP so red enchanters may go heavier on it. A smart strategy can make you pay for being too RoA reliant though so I just used it as an accent to my bread and butter strategy. There was a lot of thinking on your feet. That is all I will say here :)

Also, I would bet GMs will change the way it works on red, even a little bit. The interesting part of this event was to surprise players and test their ability to adapt fast.

I based my picks based on how good I personally think the individuals are at managing mobs while under pressure. Loudog and Worng i think will surprise people, i could be wrong. I think Sirken ASSIGNS the mob targets so invis wont matter, this unclassic version of the botb is very inconsistent. Anything can happen.
