How doable is that for fun, like in a limited time? As you can see went on live for about a Month, we could make it a week, weekend, whatever GM feels like if they are willing to create that "event" and prizes are whatever.

There's a new server in town. Fear it. Here's the press release: ---------------- MAYHEM AND CHAOS REIGN ON EVERQUEST'S NEW PLAYER VS PLAYER DISCORD SERVER You Can Run, But You Can't Hide -- Life or Death is the Only Option and the Last Few Players Standing Win! Norrath is normally a very safe, secure land. We're changing that. As of December 19th, a new level of excitement and competition will be added to EverQuest as Discord, our new competition PvP server goes live. This new server will only be live for a few short weeks, as Sony Online Entertainment challenges our community to discover who amongst them is the fiercest wizard or warrior. Discord is a hardcore Player vs. Player server, offering players fast-paced gameplay with the thrill of eminent danger and the agony of defeat. The battle begins December 19, 2003 and ends January 12, 2004 with the highest-scoring survivors proclaimed the winners. Battles are fought to the death and the slain will not be restored or resurrected for any reason.

- Any character slain will be recreated as a newbie and will have to start all over again. Corpse looting is allowed, but you'd better hurry, as all corpses will decay in 30 minutes.

- Each EverQuest account will be allowed one character on the Discord server. Players can reach level 50 with no Alternative Advancements, while an increased experience modifier will facilitate faster paced gameplay.

- Points are based on the victims, not the killer. Players can only gain points from characters that are within 20 levels of them and higher level targets will earn more points. The point total is distributed evenly between each person in a group with any fraction of a point rounded up to a full point.

- Additionally, if your character is slain, half of your earned kill points are lost. The top six surviving players with the most kill points on January 12, 2004, will be proclaimed victorious. The six victors will receive honors that will forever remind Norrath or their strength and bravery.

The victorious will be bestowed the following prizes:

* A class-appropriate item will be named after each winning character in the upcoming EverQuest expansion, the Gates of Discord. As an example, a winning Ranger may have a magical bow named after their character, while a Wizard might have an enchanted staff given their name.

* Each winning character will receive their named item shortly after the new EverQuest expansion, Gates of Discord, launches.

* Winners will be allowed a one-time transfer of their character and all gear from the Discord server to another server of their choosing.

* Winning characters will be awarded a unique title that distinguishes them from their fellow Norrathians. Discord is not for the weak or fainthearted, so there will be no in-game support; in other words, Game Masters will not be watching over your shoulder! It's doable.
Just not here.

dont get confused its not asking for a new server, a random side event to shake up a little the game content.

I had a bunch of fun with event, and I think it's one of the reasons I quit EQ for a PvP game.

Oh those tunnel fat cats would be mad as hell.

Alternatively though an arena event with a last man standing would be great fun, the last one was a good while ago and was a lot of fun ;)

It's a different server. Although a copied blue PvP server with 1 life to live would be pretty lol.

Probably the most fun I had on classic EQ. I was never close enough to winning to be mad about the hacking though. The backstabbing and anxiety was hilarious. You could never be too safe with someone you don't know REALLY well.

That's the point. If you're looking for anything to shake up the game, this is not the place for it. Even as a temporary event, it's to customized for a classic server.

Why are you so mad about it? Is it your server?

discord was brutal, but I remember seeing people in their 40's and being amazed that they got there, seeing how even a mob death dropped you down to lvl 1.

I hate how any new idea for P1999 is immediately met with this bullshit "start your own box" mentality.

If no new ideas could be proposed, we wouldn't have a red server right now. If no new ideas could be proposed, we wouldn't have a class system right now for raiding. Player input an important aspect of a MMORPG and to completely dismiss it is very ignorant.

I remember playing this event (or at least one similar to it long ago on live). I certainly didn't win it. I made a Dark Elf (I'm trying to remember if the event I played was where everybody had to make a Dark Elf and it lasted for a weekend).
It certainly seems like a fun idea, but I think the GM-folk here on P99 are limited in being able to do something like this.

No. Red is a different, and very non-classic, server. Mentioning it is pretty irrelevant. Live had rotations. The class system is entirely player generated, even if GMs forced their hands.

On top of that, this sounds like an awful lot of coding for way too little gain.

While we're at it let's implement Project M as well. Hell, let's set up Project M in VP! Oh the fun...

Imagine the terror of a Discord server with Project M button...

Also, I don't see how Discord could be described as custom content; it might not be original classic/kunark/velious era but it was an 'official' rules set.

I'd love a server that encouraged low level PVP that wasn't drowned in gearflation, so I'd give Discord a go.

Yeah, I mean the lack of permanence inherit to that type of server could make it incredibly fun to play on. It's essentially player driven wipes. And to do it without all the hacking that ran rampant on live Discord would be so much fun.

So, you go LD and die to a mob - start over?

This is how it was with Diablo 2 hardcore mode. The feeling you had after going linkdead and logging back on to see if your character had survived...... haha it was some of the most fun I have ever had gaming

The Shards of Dalaya private server has a hardcore mode, for what it's worth. It's far from classic (but on purpose; it's meant to be a different world) and the hardcore players are on the same server as the non-hardcore, but I think hardcore players get bonus experience to make up for it.

On the other hand, SoD is not full PvP and I just just imagine how certain Red99 players would love to murder a hardcore PvP player...

What we really need is a Highlander server, where there can be only one and each death is permanent. Remove non-PK experience, lock out new characters after the first player hits 60 and just let the Gathering begin. It would be pure concentrated Red.

from what I remember, nearly everything on discord server was made dropable, akin to FV server rules.

I never really got into EQ PvP, I mean I have a couple Red characters but I haven't even done real PvP on them yet. However, this sounds like it would be really fun. I quit live EQ before this happened so I never even knew about it. I would totally try this out.
