Hello all,
I just found out about this Project 1999 and I am very interested in starting on this classic EQ server but first I need to know if it is worth it population wise. EQ is my favorite game of all time and I would give everything to play again but what made EQ so good was the game and also the grouping and raiding and I want to know if those two last ones are there on this server? Is there a good enough population to really deal with higher end content or are we talking about playing EQ for fun and just getting to 50 and not really be able to do all that is available?
Thanks!
Looking forward to starting!

averages 4-6 hundred on peak capping out in the 900's
off peak it's high 200's to mid 300's or so
i'm an off peak player but you can usually find a few people to play with at my low level (currently 20's)
during peak there are quite a few players everywhere from what i've encountered. from reading forums the higher level areas are quite full also

There's an active population counter on the Project 1999 homepage.
Yes, there are groups for all level ranges. Raids are meh, pretty competitive. But if you have no life, it'll be easy to grind quickly to raid level and compete for the content.

More people complain about to large a population than not enough of one. I think its great, maybe you can't always get the specific camps you want but there are always plenty of people on and around to level.

I am always pleasantly suprised to enter a zone and find a dozen or more people.
I was a little apprehensive when I first started playing.
But the abundance of population in lowbie zones was quite refreshing.
I've been playing for a few weeks, having a ton of fun.
Having to force myself to login to FFXIV over this, since I paid $75 for the preorder.

There were 44 people in Oasis one night last week. :) We're currently in North and East Karana hunting, and most evenings there are 12-20 people there with us.

I was logging in last night and a thought occurred to me. How awesome would it be if all the people from all those other servers all came to 1999?! it would be like playing at launch all over again.

I would be very sad if all those people came here now. I still have some characters to level before Kunark. Once Kunark is out I welcome another few hundred new players. :)

That's what I remember from big-release days - a bit of lag and maybe a few tech problems and nerds going ballistic because everything wasn't perfect.

It wouldn't be awesome. I think the word you are thinking of is awful.

I say that because of how easy groups would be to get... the items available for sale...the people to port around for donations

The difference between brown-nosing and ass-kissing is depth perception.
That being said, the GMs/Guides/Devs here ALL rock.
Thank you gentlemen.

all those people at once...server would crash...even now I have seen that once we get around 900 to 1000 players it sometimes gets a little choppy latency in EC...
but then again thats EC.....Server runs on donations to pay for bandwidth...of which I plan to do very soon, otherwise this wouldnt exist at all

lol those were the days.
Serious ups to the gms and devs here.. it's not even that p99 is so incredibly more stable than live was.. it's incredibly more stable than the other emus are, too. On some of the other servers it was pretty common to see up to 1/3 of a raid force LD during big fights, not the case here at all.

We've had only one zone crash since the 22nd, which was due to a missing sanity check that is now fixed for next patch. When this server first started, we got maybe half a dozen zone crashes a day.
We continue to make efforts to optimize the code. The base EQEmu code has loads of unnecessary calls and inefficient programming that I've worked extensively on revamping.
In addition to that we don't run this shit on an atari 2600 on a 28k modem!

lol.
I just remembered that same person saying some snide things about certain guilds and certain people getting favoritism because they had "Gm's in their pocket," and thought their comment here was kind of an about face from that...At least some of the disgruntled rebels on this server are consistent...
Figured I'd poke at them and see if they'd provide any explanation. ;)

Thats my memory too...
I wish I could find it somewhere, but there was a cartoon that was circulated.. Was a dog, sitting on a desk, Variant logo in the background... and one of the guys in front of the desk, said 'Let me introduce our new mascott, Patches.. '
Ive searched high and low for the cartoon again.. but have not found it again in recent years.

^ i just don't see how folks can stand to play on EZ server. I made a char there and deleted him after lvl 5. It was too too easy. Took all of the thrill and uncertainty out of playing EQ. Glad I stuck with P1999. GF and I having a blast.

This would be more likely if they knew how to run 2 different EQ installations. Right now I"m not sure exaclty how to run projectEQ AND project1999. I could probably find out if I tried. Maybe all I need to do is install it twice in different folders??? Maybe I'll try tomorrow.
This is interesting though. I would like to login periodically even though I wouldn't play actively (yet).
