It's probably nostalgia but my two buddies and I decided to jump back in to EQ. We quit a month or two after Gates of Discord game out, early 2004.
We actually met each other on the Caster's Realm Monk forum and have been friends ever since. (We even met up for a BBQ a few years back)
Our defacto leader was a monk who had plane of time on farm status. We really rode his coat tails pretty hard. I always knew him as Sorrikk the Monk. Before we met on the CR Monk forums he used to be an enchanter named Xornn who I guess wrote a popular enchanting guide.
At the time I knew him as the guy who could solo Jade Reaver's in CoM (something I thought was absolutely amazing at the time.) We followed him around pretending to contribute to the fights. It was some pretty good times. My other buddy and I didn't really accomplish anything particularly note worthy in EQ. Well I suppose you could say a friendship that started in EQ and has lasted for 15 years is probably pretty noteworthy.
11 years later the slower pace of EQ is appealing to us again. We started an Iksar group last night and we plan on trying to stay in Kunark and avoid twinking. We're not in a particular hurry to get to the max level and we're just focused on having a good time which is our end game.
If you guy's see a trio of Iksar running around Kunark it's probably us. (SK, Sham, Monk.) Feel free to say hi.
We've gone a little high tech this time around in EQ though and actually have webcams and voice running so it's almost like a lan party.
I actually played for EQEmu until like level 10 or so back in 2010. They actually made fun of me back then. I've made sure to poke fun at the fact that they're back. When I found out my one friend was playing the first thing he said was "Don't judge me."
