So I got a wild hair in my butt and rolled a Gnome/Wizard on the Red server, I was out killing stuff and then aggro'd a coyote and ran to the guards, there I met a nice Gnome... He was a necro, was a lot of fun, we went and killed the kobolds... when I hit level 4 and was high enough for him to kill... he killed me.
WTF? I though we were bros?

After this, I am done playing the PVP server :P

Dude, If ya quit over something like that then this server may not be for you. But I will tell you it is not hard to find a group of pals on this server. Just do not be a D-bag and talk to people like shit. And don't cry when pvp happens. IT IS ALOT MORE FUN then blue could ever be. My first few weeks I was bind camped, trained, and told to go back to blue rofl... I was like i have never played on blue ever..

at least you didn't get dragged from your awesome Cazic Thule group to basement in HH, bound at entrance, and ganked by a wizard and shaman who were hiding guild tags...<Nomsanto> bitchfaces... was before my SK was 30 and had invis too, had to have guildie come to bring me corpse tot he ZL.

I enjoy pvp a lot... I also want to level. I get annoyed with pvp sometimes when it breaks up groups, but that's mostly because most players here are blue so they won't actually partake in PVP and will just log to an alt when pvp happens. YT starts flying in CB for example and everyone scatters like cockroaches. I'd much rather not kill everyone in my group and just use them for bonus xp to get higher lvl and kill higher level people personally, or pvp as a team... like when we roll 3 deep <FoH> and show up to groups of 6 and let them know our intentions. We came to fight. Is your body ready? It's awesome to fight fair/underdog fights and come out on top, and doesn't have the same effect of shutting the zone down like rushing through with a ragebringer/fungi and clearing 2 full groups unscathed for "points". It is really awesome to see a group who hasn't encountered PVP like that actually have to come together and form some strategy to take you out. Real pvp between similarly geared newbs or with advantageous odds for the newbs supports red99 growth and teaches players to enjoy pvp, not fear it.

Ya don't mention it

As far as pvp breaking groups up maybe the people pvping should consider not putting ragebringers/fungus on lvl 10s something meaningful can occur

Logging off against that is the right move tho

Oh well sucks there isn't item loot to take that fungus or I'd start working on a team of alts to break their balls for trying that shit

You need people willing to eat YT but wanting to engage in PVP and teach newbs PVP lifestyle to grow PVP population. Right now red99 is experiencing growth, but it is not PVP growth, just server growth. A more skilled/seasoned player in a barely geared 15 toon taking on several players encourages them to regroup, make a plan of attack, and overcome the encounter, just like leveling up teaches them to PVE different enemies... like the first time mobs teach you the hard way to assist, and to focus fire on healers or casters... or not to turn your back to a backstabbing mob.

An encounter with a fungi twink teaches you nothing, except to avoid PVP and just get high level and gear and alt maybe...

An encounter with a mildly geared pvp character like my ranger or shaman on the other hand can be very enjoyable for players even if they die once or twice. There's a huge difference in dying to a fungi/ragebringer twink you couldn't scratch, and dying to a guy that was naked but had a cool looking weapon.

For example, don't resist gear your low lvl PVP tons to hell.... casters have NO hp or AC, and most have limited utility spells at lower levels to evade you, at least let them be able to land spells, which you will just strip anyways. IF you have tons of plat (I don't) carry tons of pumice and maybe share some and teach people to use it... I like having engaging PVP on the server. What we have now is mostly just cowards who zerg to end game, twink an alt, and grief others because they never learned to PVP in any shape or form and get crushed.

THINK OF THE CHILDREN!

....but seriously, bring them some real PVP. Show them your skills, not your hoarded pixels. You'd be surprised how proficient a mildly geared melee character is against even a fungi twink btw. Had a lot of fun in CB last night fighting Combat (admittedly very new to rogue) on my ranger with his druid friend (also in range) aiding him, and the newbs in my group getting demolished rapidly... in the end my newb pure casters in rags ate the dust... the rogue had to zone, the druid had to zone... the fungi let him recover quickly and ocme back in at me but I zoned and was done. Fungi really just lets them recover quickly outside zone... it isn't THAT bad to overcome if you have a decent weapon (which many newbs don't). Casters get screwed hard til 30+ it's gate or die mostly.

Do you know how many douchebags I've grouped with in blue? Afk after every other pull, play dumb, keep repeating "dude, i'm so high", etc. etc. The ability to kick someone from group and beat them senseless is a feature, not a bug.

I avoid PVP at all costs and only play on R99 because you can join the zerg and be in the only guild that gets any raid targets.

Yup, at least for now. Getting the last half level for my shaman would take months with my schedule and be boring as shit. Then I'd have to grind for torpor, which would take months and be boring as shit. I'm not active enough to be a reliable raider or to wait hours for my turn at a camp that I'd then need to poopsock for hours. I'm really not sure whats left for me on blue at least until my schedule clears up (might never happen).

I rolled a druid on red, thinking I'd try it out and that if I didn't like it I could just sell ports on red (while camping HS ent on blue) and convert the currency to blue at 3:1. I dinged 22 last night and it turns out I like it a LOT. But I liked blue a lot til ~KC levels, so we'll see what happens =D

In EverQuest, death happens a lot. With the addition of PvP, death is likely to happen even more. We have to take it less personally.

When you're playing chess with someone and they take your pawn or another piece, you don't boggle at them and say, "WTF? I thought we were bros!" Because that's part of the game. On Red, fighting and sometimes killing each other is part of the game. You didn't expect to come in and immediately kick everyone's butt in PvP, did you? And surely you didn't think that Red is just a lower-population copy of the blue server?

If you're wondering if this happens all the time, I don't remember ever being killed by somebody I just grouped with. I think it's rare.

People farming plat on red to fund their blue characters getting torpor.... cross server trading confirmed 100% ruining the box.

Kill it with fire.

I like to play mind games with my groups and joke about attacking them nonstop... that way, they don't know when the real attack is coming and it's too late once it starts, the old "boy who cried wolf" method :D

i have to say, im appalled you didnt see this coming. just because tne first person to be your friend was pretending, doesnt mean the next will do the same.

there are alot of people from blue who just arent super interested in initiating the pvp, but you should really be prepared at all times.

my first experience was rolling solo until i ran into a grp of 3 who chased me across the zone to guards. they then sat with me for at least 45 minutes until my initial shock wore off.

What kinda Character should I play? I was going to play a gnome Necro, but I am kinda burnt out of necro, human monk but I feel like if I got in a fight with any casters, they would wreck me and I generally only play short races, so what class should I play?

Play literally whatever you think will be the most fun. On blue, the top criteria for a first char seem to be solo capabilities and group desirability. Sham and enchanter make top of the list, then mage/necro or rogue/monk/cleric depending on which of the two criteria you value more.

On red, you'll get groups just fine regardless of class, least from my personal experience to 22 and the ooc lfm requests. Additionally, grouping is gonna be better exp, so solo capabilities don't matter as much.

troll is trolling, but actually ranger is a lot of fun pvp, I never enjoyed them before but am giving them a go and having a blast. Hybrids really shine a lot more in pvp with their versatility.

That said, if you go monk, go iksar for regen and AC by far, and also you don't have to fear any casters nuking you to death til 20+ when they actually have mana to do so. If oyu play a priest class you can outheal them and walk up and crush their face mostly... if oyu play a melee you can wreck them... just not enough mana pool to handle pvp low lvl mostly. Melee is most survivable early on by far.

Biggest threats or earliest power comes to shaman and cleric and paladin who can blind. Chain blind will shut down anyone, and then you just have to kill them. Also chain blind will keep PK's off your nuts while you walk away if you want. Snare is another big one, anyone who can snare will have an easier life early on, so troll shaman with necklace, ranger, druid, SK to an extent... makes life easier.

If you want to die less, play a bard or priest imo. If you want to be able to kill people well early on go with a pure caster, but be prepared to be worthless in anything but 1v1 where you start it.

If you want to play a short race play a gnome/Halfling/dwarf rogue I guess, or a stick to wizard, you can always gate.

No matter what you play 1-50 is a relatively easy ride but 51-60 is a pain in the fucking ass so make sure you play something that you ENJOY. If you play something that you don't really like just to farm gear or plat then I guarantee you that youll get burned out and quit.

Not really, but good luck with that. Most classes can see invis around the time you can backstab. Rogue is a good starting class if you can get someone to give you a good weapon or start saving early and get jade chokidai prod or some other good 10+dmg stabber you'll be set, and can just focus on gearing up as you go along.

Your wizard is the better class to be able to gank people though most likely. I mean... you can invis just like the rogue... but sadly spells do reduced dmg and twinks have resists.

Kinda maxes out around level 7 and you gotta head to commonlands.
