Coming back after a 6 month absence I have decided to play a class and picked the Shadowknight. I was wondering what kind of gear to get him. I have scrounged up about 1k to spend on him? Still not sure if I am picking the Ogre or the Troll race yet either. Any help is appreciated and thanks in advance.

Focus on HP and AC in your early levels. STA will become more of an issue in later levels when it gives you more return on investment. Don't worry about DPS; you're not going to be doing a lot of it anyway and it's not your role in a group (although if you plan to spend a lot of time soloing, then a good weapon will be a lot more important). Just pick up a cheap (100-200pp) weapon and spend the rest of your money on tank gear. 5 AC / 55 HP rings (platinum fire wedding ring) are probably the single best item for your buck in your price range.

Rings, Skyfire, shield and fine plate. 1k should deffo be enough. A bit further up you can get a Mace of the Shadowed Soul, very nice and good value.

Also troll/ogre are useless in some narrow dungeons unless you are in a group with a shammy that has shrink.

What you want is two 5/55 rings. It'll cost ya 400pp but is an absolute must. Any purchases after that are debatable, but those two rings are not.

5/55hp rings, full bronze armour, sky fire and maybe a cheap 2hs for after 20 - firerune brand or something. Should easily get for under 1k, any left over pp you could get some good bang for buck tank gear : lumberjack cap, bloodstained mantle, ikky scale gloves (not to sure on tank gear though as I'm a druid)

5/55 rings and Sword of sky fire with a set of bronze/banded as others have suggested is a good starting option. Just shoot for a low delay one handed and don't be tempted by better ratio twohanders initially because the damage cap renders those far lower dps starting out than one handers.

maybe avoid bronze (even though a full plate look is cool) as it eats up a lot of your carrying weight, its just one or two AC more per item but you'd only be able to carry half the loot before you need to go sell.

Dark mailed gauntlets are very nice for that 50 mana, and are quite cheap.

I wouldn't worry too much about an AC set. you'll be fine in whatever cloth/leather you can find. If you get a chance to hit a cash camp as you level, like the LFay bandits or OoT sisters, maybe try to pick up cheaper nice items like treeweave or skull-shaped barbarute.

2x 5/55 rings 500p
Nathsar Greatsword 150
Full suit of banded 90

This will last you till 20 and a bit beyond. once you hit 20 you might want a better weapon. but the Nathsar is still adequate. As a large race you wont need a shield for a long time. Its still a good idea to pick one up but its not urgent.
