Just fill your time doing other things.
edit: ...perhaps constructive & positive things while using logic & other safety measures to ensure a healthy enjoyable experience of doing X other things...

Confirmed, key to quitting EQ = having other stuff you enjoy doing to occupy your time. EQ = timesink. More fun andinteractive time sink than most video games, but a time sink none the less, as they all are. You accomplish NOTHING every second you play. It simulates accomplishments and fulfills a lot of psychological accomplishments your brain wants but then you log out and have none of those things... every time you log out of EQ you spawn at lvl 1 in RL.... go level up IRL and you wont' care any more.

Invent a machine that shoots Tobasco sauce at your face when it hears the Everquest loading music playing.

If this was p99 hot sauce - THEN it would truly help in quitting.... just sayin...

Best way Ive found is to play something else. Another way is by losing a ton of shit...like maybe delete your epic or character. Maybe wait til you have the WORST luck one night and you can quit by pure RAGE. You could also get yourself banned, forcibly stopping your addiction.
I seem to always get sick of playing at some point, and I dont think Ive ever played consistently for an entire year. Maybe you have a genetic predisposition to addiction, and nothing is gonna help ya....

That's how I quit playing CS:GO. My team lost so bad one night that I just fucking rage uninstalled. Never looked back.

Years ago one of my best friends rage quit over his cleric getting screwed via the old Ragefire bottleneck  Even after they fixed it on live, the damage was done. He swore he would never come back and he never has.
Like others have said, rage quit is one of the most sure fire ways to stop. The trick is how to make that happen.

I always play 6-8 months hard, then loose interest and dont play for 4-5 months. When I get back, most people I knew quit, I reroll a new character and do it all over.
Dont have 1 lvl 60. Just 3-5 lvl 50s and a bunch of 20-30s.
How I quit? Work gets busy, summer time comes. Every summer I quit. I might play once a week or two, but I have quit every summer since I started playing

I was hoping for a walk-through.
step 1 buy a razor
step 2 drag razor across wrists ( down the road, if you just slash across your wrist then you wont be able to quit)
step 3 take a hot bath, and relax. You did it! any time now and you will be quitting 100%

People make it sound like that's an easy way to quit EQ, but when you're staring a razor down you realize it's one of the hardest ways to do it.

Simple give your accounts away and dont look back. If u do decide to come back start fresh
I think someone has posted this already, but try not logging in for a few days. Once you get over that initial withdrawal, you won't have any real desire to log in. That's how I usually do it, but then again I come back in a few months and do it all over again
Give me your acct info, ill help you quit.

Buy about 3.5 grams worth of psychedelic mushrooms, play your definition of bad music, play EQ while tripping.
You'll never be able to look at EQ the same. That or you'll just really fucking hate certain zones.

RMT so hard they ban your accounts / IP. It's the only final solution I've truly seen most take.

@ OP, if you ask yourself the question : how can i quit this fuckin game, then you have a problem. Your gaming habits maybe hurt your health and brain, leaving an empty space when you're IRL. Others said it too : stop playing for a week, do yourself a favor, do some sports, sex, cinema, hang out with real humans, and you'll see no desire to log back. Why ? Cause when you do other things, that empty space starts to fill. If you dont have much real humans or friends / family around you, suscribe to some community and do something useful with associations.
Most important : dont think EQ is evil, cause its not, its one of the most fantastic game ever created, its just the way we play it that makes it evil (or not). Maybe you shouldnt even think about quiting if you really like this. Finding a balance is key, and this does apply to almsot everything in life. One can play EQ and have a life for sure.
Hope you'll find some way to work around your problem.

It was never hard for me to quit. I could never stomach a game for more than several months at most before I was burnt out. I don't think you'll EVER forget EQ. You'll have nostalgic episodes. For me, playing on p1999 in its infancy was the best time of my EQ career. It's mostly over now. It has been years since I played here. I played on live last year for a while, but lost interest. I play on Wurm Online every now and then. Insofar as my online game playing exploits, Wurm Online and a browser game are the only games I care about. Offline I like to play games on GoG. I think there're a lot of advantages to not playing online - like moddability.
Best advice is to stop playing when you start grinding or to recognie the signs of burnout. The classic sign for me was to be mad at certain ways the game worked. I'd rage in the forum or in the chat about a game mechanic or something and then I'd just quit, claiming I'd never return. I always did. I didn't recognize back then it was burnout. But I did get bored from it too. A game loses its luster the longer you play it.
I'll give an example. Back in 2002 I think I rage quit over how ranged combat worked (there was a window where in pvp they could root you and cast on you and you couldn't hit them with your bow) and also over the fact I hated the class-based system. I loved the skill-based system in UO.
I do think I get burn out quicker now. It's age and general experience with games. I have less patience for thigns I don't like. I don't hold games in as high esteem as I used to either. They're a glorified waste of time.

Group Description
EverQuest Widows Unite! (tm)
EverQuest Widows is a forum for partners, family, and friends of people who play EverQuest compulsively. We turn to each other because it's no fun talking to the back of someone's head while they're retrieving their corpse or "telling" with their guild-mates as you speak.
The Wids(tm) are here to support each other, and to discuss the trials and tribulations of living in Real Life while our loved one is immersed in EverQuest.
EQ players recovering from compulsive game play are welcome to the forum. You may also be interested in www.olganon.org, Online Gamers Anonymous, created by Liz Wooley, one of our Wids.
For EQ defenders -- please understand that we are here to support each other, not to argue with you. "It's not the game's fault," "Why don't you play the game yourself," "EQ is not addictive, it's just fun" -- we've heard it all. And lots of us DO play EQ! So if that's why you're here, don't be surprised if your posts don't show up.
This list is moderated for new members and new posters. Your message may not show up for a day or two (we go as fast as we can!).
Hope to hear from you soon --Laura, EQWids(tm) Founder June 2000
