Log in Window will not open

Everytime I click on the shortcut to start the game it tries to open and then doesnt.... I have windows 8 if that helps any. How do I correct this problem?

A couple things:

1. You cannot use the default shortcut to launch P99. You either need to use the bat file included in v36 or create a shortcut to eqgame.exe and append the target path with patchme.
2. Adaware, Avast and McAfee (and likely others too) identify a P99 dll as malware and will quarantine and/or delete it. The file is required to play, so you will need to restore it and make an exception in your antivirus/malware protection or turn it off when you launch EQ.
