Good morning everyone and thank you for your time for reading this!
Just had a few questions and was hoping I could get some help. We're from live so bear with me!
Other than having issues downloading the titanium, I was wondering how healthy the population is?
Being that I have only checked this morning and seeing a few hundred, Does it get much higher and how does that translate to active grouping?
My wife and I would be starting fresh and would love to have others to play with.
We're from Live and my current server is dead. +- 200 or so in chat channels at any given time so we don't mind duo-ing which brings me to my next question.
Anyone have any suggestions for a good make up? As cray-cray as it sounds we played a War / SK combo and we loved it. I understand melee is VERY hard to play as a first toon but we love those classes.
Are we starting too late? Being that this has been around for so long I would hate to join such a top heavy game that we wont see anyone. Again, basing this off live servers and how they had to implement mercenaries to try and help out.
Are their any guilds actively recruiting fresh noobz? Only ones I've seen on the guild forum is for raiding.
Thank you for your time!

Blue Server is around 800-900 population
Red server is around 200-300 population
Both servers have guilds who will recruit fresh players. You are starting late, yes. On blue you'll still see low levels running around - Red is a little barren at low levels.
Starting classes? You may want a druid for ports and support. Plus you can make a pretty penny porting people around.

I recently came from live as well. You will love it here! On live you had to box or play with mercs just to level up or get things done. It's the exact opposite here. I've yet to not be able to find a group. So you will get groups at all levels here on P99. Last night when I logged off around 1am CST there were over 1100 people on Blue, and almost 400 on Red. It's very healthy, and continues to grow.
Hope to see you in game!

You are only starting late when you consider how bloated the high end is with players, and gear, but there are tons of people leveling on the server, it's sometimes hard to find a group just because it's crowded.

Don't forget to put in for an IP exemption if you have not already.
Welcome fellow EQ'er =)

the server is pretty much as crowded as I remember live servers being. And since this is classic style eq, to find a group means you got to be willing to travel around, start something, find friends. But the players are all here. It's just that, unlike modern games, you gotta work for dem levels. And you gotta travel. And, some nights nothing much will happen for ya. Welcome back to what we used to call "fun."

Ip exempt would be so we both can play in the same house correct? Different pcs and all.
This was fun back in the day, but most of us are all grown up now so time is a bit tough to come by.
Excited to see how things will go

Pretty spot on. Great info he, or she, is giving. And Welcome Aboard also. :D

I thought I replied, oops!
So the ip exempt would be required just because were in the same house and such correct?
We currently play WoW and just tired of all the numbers that are involved.
"Your item level is too low. Your dps and hps is low. Why did you for and not do anymore damage".
We just want to have fun, meet great friends and play at our own pace.
Now, how is end game working out and when do they think the next expansion is coming out? If we were to get to end game, just wondering how it would be.
When we played in the golden days we never reached max level so I'm a bit oblivious to how this works out.

Absolutely. They'll basically flag your accounts on their end to notate that you and your wife are both playing from the same IP, rather than you playing two accounts. Note that they may still action accounts if they appear to be boxed as opposed to multiple people playing.
Edit: Note that there's a Sticky (http://www.project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?t=142220) in this forum regarding IP Exemptions.

Are we too far behind to have active grouping?
And how far does p99 plan to go expansion wise ?
Would anyone be interested in grouping ?:)

Red + Blue servers both up to Kunark.
then you have the Velious beta server
There'll be ppl of all lvls floating about or they'll have an alt. What time zone?
Yes, the IP exemption will allow what we all used to do bitd with 2 phone lines & accounts. Be careful not to be tempted by the dark side of botting the other character. I know if I had an IP exemption it could be tempting at times for that rez, buff, etc...

Eastern time zone.
Were still reading up on everything, have both accounts made but have not installed yet otherwise I would apply for that exempt now so I wouldn't have a long wait to get us both on

Might I suggest the power combo of Enchanter & Cleric... youll be able to create your own groups easy and can duo so well together!

Are we too far behind to have active grouping?
Definitely not. The majority of characters online at any given time are below level 50. Lots of people solo because of the convenience of being able to play on your own terms/schedule, but there are also a lot of groups out there and a lot of people who will join a group if you start one yourself.

Population is booming here, averaging 1k at prime time. There are plenty of newbies and last to level with from 1-60 though most of the axion is concentrated in a few heavily populated zones. That's not to say there is not action to b had off the beaten path, just that it is easier to come by in those zones if you are looking to group.
I would not recommend a war/sk duo here, it would not work well, though I suppose fear kiting would work just as well with the two of you as it does for a solo SK. I would be more incline to suggest a duo of a healer and anything else. Paladin/rogue or sk/rogue could work well too if you both want to stick to melee.

Shaman Monk combo is pretty much the most popular combo for good reasons.
Enchanter is a good class on here also, but not many people really that great at playing one well. It is a hard class to play like it can be played. Plus no heals on their part. Their charmed pet is their bread and butter, but you need over 200 Charisma to do that reliably.
2 Melee classes together is probably not a great idea on here. Way too much downtime. Still play what you guys like. You are the ones that are going to have to put a ton of time in them, not us lol.

I've been able to find groups on both of my toons which are below 20, done very little soloing. One thing is that people tend to stick to more popular zones so if you want to try something off the beaten path then you may find it tougher to group.

Unfortunately the download has been majorly problematic or me with all the viruses coming through.
The kickass red plagued link to be exact.
Tried a few different times and it really discouraged me, lol.

Paladin/rogue or sk/rogue could work well too if you both want to stick to melee. Knight + Rogue is an extremely underrated duo and is itself the keystone of some of the best and easiest group compositions. Druid + Enchanter is also extremely powerful and accessible, as well as Necro + Mage for an extremely fun alternative play style.
Population is only a problem of crowding. On "valley" hours in some of the more popular zones, population never dips below 10 people and true quiet time is to be savored. With that said, if you catch Duo Fever you're going to be xenophobic anyways and never want to group with anyone :p
