I have played it, and its freaking addictive. Buggy as hell too, but fun none the less. Totally worth the little money it takes to buy.

Beware is all I can tell you. Mega addictive and it lulls you into long sessions with the day/night cycle and general sandbox mechanics.

I like the freeplay style. I made a huge underground cavern with multiple floors and decorations, dug all the way down and made a giant lake of lava, and then routed the ocean to it.

Looks like it came back up today. So, no more f2p. But it's cheep ass. And fun.

i've been playing... kinda fun but not worth the time until he can make non griefing multiplayer servers. Why spend so much time building such elaborate shit for nobody but yourself to see? I guess thats why there are so many youtube vids of peoples constructions.
Great idea... but he needs to improve it for online play.
Perhaps he will be doing that with the $250,000 a day he is making in sales.

Minecraft is almost more of a creative outlet than a game. Akin to building a model or playing with Legos, et cetera. It is fun to show my brother the luxurious cave dwelling I built into the mountain, but I'm driven more by my own satisfaction with a completed project.
That being said, I actually like the action. :D The bow is pretty accurate and mob-juking with the sword to avoid them exploding/owning you is pretty fun.
If you dig deep into the world, you find some pretty spooky places, too. Go deep enough and you can hear the mobs nearby and rarely can pinpoint exactly where from, which creates decent suspense. Occasionally taking an arrow to the face as you break into a cavern is pretty startling and fun, as well. I enjoy the groove you can get into clearing an area and setting up a camp/way point.
Last weekend I accidentally created a fissure near some lava and it spilled over the entire lava lake. I came back 15 minutes later and it had cooled into obsidian blocks! I had to carefully route the lava under the obsidian into another area and then plundered!
In fact, think I'm going to go play right now.

I spent about 8 hours hollowing out an entire mountain into a labyrinthine tower of stone rooms. It was pretty awesome, if I do say so myself. I even made a glass balcony and a 10block by 10block picture window about 2/3 of the way up. Incredible views. :P Then I dug out a spiral staircase to a huge room and found lava. I died in it. :(
I really enjoyed it for the creative outlet it is, but won't even consider playing multiplayer until I can protect my castle from being torched and or destroyed by some asshat griefer.
Super cool concept though!

Nice. I tried so hard to play Dwarf Fortress but just couldn't get my head around the inability to 'see' anything. With the new graphic version maybe I'll give it another try.

Searching for dungeons is pretty fun, would be even better to do it with others, especially if the mobs were a little more difficult. This game has a lot of potential, there is so much that could be done with it.

Once multiplayer is complete with damage and all the bugs/exploits are fixed, this is going to really kick ass. Right now multiplayer is like creative mode basically.

A ton of fun. I run a server at 173.230.158.205:25565 if you guys want to stop by. Keep in mind that as a guest you cant build or destroy anything until you're whitelisted.
Go to diygamer.com/forums if you feel like getting whitelisted.
Im working on a mod now for a guest area sandbox. This hassle is because of all the griefers...people just cant be counted on when theyre anonymous, its sad.

I think I'm gonna buy this tonight just based off what you guys said. I already heard a lot about how fun this game is and this thread just confirmed it. What's the learning curve like guys?

If you read the wiki, it can be a very quick learning curve.
If you want to try to figure it out all on your own, it would be much steeper. Much like EQ, he plops you into the world with little to no instruction.

I had to read the wiki. I suggest everyone do. It's not a very intuitive game. There are some youtube tutorials too which I found very handy.

You can all thank this game for making it stop (my posting and being involved in this community).
Never fear, Hasbinbad will be back eventually, but I have literally given my soul to Notch.
Ultimate legos for the fucking win.

The wiki definitely helped. When I first played I didn't know to hold down the mouse button to chop/punch/dig/etc. I kept trying to rapid click and nothing worked.
Other than that, theres a list somewhere that shows the configuration of what makes what on the workbench or in the forge. Most are pretty logical.
Also the list of what materials are hard enough to use to mine other ores was pretty nice.

None of those recreations are created within the game, theyre just uploaded from 3rd party 3d mappers.

Several were made by hand, over periods of weeks or longer without 3rd party mappers.
