I'm really new. I've never played Everquest before in my life, but with my excitement slowly mounting for Everquest Next, and hearing all these great stories of how godawful painful this game apparently was back in "The Day"? I thought I'd swing by and take a look. I am, unfortunately, from the post-WoW era of MMORPGs, but I've been a gamer for a long time and my experience is with multiple genres... Which includes more than a few games that can kick your butt that AREN'T MMORPGs.

So, besides logging in for a few minutes and going 'OH dear God, these controls are clunky'... I'm thinkin' this is gonna be FUN. I'm playing a Dark Elf Necromancer cause... Why not? I like necromancers.

Welcome to the playground! there are a number of gams that have an EQ feel. If you've played FFXI it is a lot like that on level of time/difficulty except with an exponentially less hostile community. A lot of the turn of the millennium Korean grind tests have a similar pace as well.

The ffxi community was an actual community, whereas here, its basically compton in a perpetual state of pg13 gang wars. I think ffxi was easier to start out though, as gear was relatively cheap until mid levels.

I just hated the combat ready / conclusion animations to be honest...

Welcome to the server!

Necros are fun, and basically the best solo capable class in the game. I'm sure someone will be along at some point telling you to reroll Iksar for min-max reasons, but I say play what you want. :)

I will say, if you are used to playing more active style mmo's, the bard class might be to your liking as it has a very active playstyle involved with twisting the songs.

Lol, welcome! Just a heads up, the first 3-4 levels are pretty brutal, but once your character starts to come into your own and you're consistently grouping and making friends, this game is a blast.

Also, try not to look at it as a race to max level which most MMOs try to do now and enjoy how open the world is.

Damn. Stuff really started taking off after 30, and the endgame stuff was a blast.

Account made a month ago, proceeds to talk about the community like hes been around.
